General Discussion / RP on your resumé
« on: February 05, 2008, 11:21:27 am »
Who would have guessed that Role-Play in PS can help you get a job? Well, if you told me you could a week or two ago, I would not have believed you. Virtual Reality is at a point where people actually replace real life by it, and even in Planeshift there are people spending more time in RP then in RL. As was I, a few months back. Gradually employers start realizing the power virtual reality can posses and the RL skills people get from that.

I applied for a job of Organiser and got hired. I'll be organising tournaments, just like good ol' Proglin used to do in Yliakum. My Resumé told about some relevant hobbies and whatnot, and a somewhat lengthy part about my experiences hosting events for an RP community. I explained how I used to organise tournaments online and managed a team of 20 players while keeping 100 more entertained. Also wrote down my experiences as a GM. Not 10 minutes later I recieved a reply from the company, asking more about that. They wanted to know what it was I did exactly so I explained and send them a website. Again, not 10 minutes later I was hired without as much as an interview. Naturally, my RP experiences weren't the one reason why I got hired. Most likely my love for sports and theatre weighed in as heavy, just that my brand shiny new employer believed that skills obtained in Virtual Reality are as good as those obtained in Real Life.

So... looking for a job? Do not hesitate to add "Ran a shop in Virtual Reality" to your resumé. You are likely to recieve questions about it, but it might just make the difference and show people you got a nack for organizing stuff as well as have insight in economy.

Forum and Website Discussions / Ban in PM's?
« on: January 17, 2008, 07:26:08 pm »
Heya moderators and PS peeps.

I'll not mention any names, of course. But I would like to be able to block certain people from sending me Private messages. Is this already possible? Can it be arranged? And above all, is this function wanted by other people in the community?

In-Game Roleplay Events / Proglin's funeral.
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:10:56 am »
It was a good ceremony, as was to be expected from the Entertainer. Tears were shed by old friends that remember Proglin, as jolly as he was.

It was Einnol that found his brother in his home. A while ago Proglin fled to the safety of his house to start working on a brand new tournament. The pages he intended to fill were only half done. Proglin's head on his last half finished work, he died of old age and sheer tiredness.

Now time had come to dispatch of Proglins body and throw him in the burial well on the road towards Ojaveda. Farewell Proglin, may you finally get your well earned rest.

[Most people that take the time to write a farewell thread tend to stay. I'm not going to stay. We had fun guys and girls :) thanks to those that deserve it. So... bye to all from Proglin the Entertainer, former GM Yill and those that knew me as a person]

Fan Art / Proglin Picks up Pencils
« on: April 16, 2007, 06:30:41 am »
I used to have an Art thread in here which can be found ---> http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=23656.60 here. It is a bit outdated and in the mean time I develloped a bit, like we all do. I'd like to restart and show you some of my work for improvements and comments, as well as just for fun. I hope that this time I can keep up the pace and regularly provide new pictures to look at.

I like using a tablet with Artrage and Blender for modeling. Here is some of my work for you to see.

General Discussion / The Shields of Eldoreth event, Aftermath.
« on: April 16, 2007, 03:37:26 am »
Dear Citizens of Yliakum,

After 3 weeks, 2 days and 3 hours, roughly 560 man hours, some blood sweat and tears, the Shields of Eldoreth Event has come to an end. I can safely say it was a great succes, not only because of the team that worked on this event, but also because of the outstanding quallity of your Role-Play. I Wish to thank you all greatly for making this event such a huge succes. Huge succes because it was the largest event ever, most people attended, it was the first ever setting changing GM-event and fo the first time, we had roughly 15 GM's and Devs working on one and the same event. All of this could not have been done without the players. A funny fact might be, that the command that supports the event being listed in your quest window, was not capable of handling the sheer amount of people that actively joined. So, as far as we can count, we had 130 people joining in the event.

Following is a Thanks to all GM's and Devellopers and ofcourse the roles they played. If you read this thread and wish to say something, make useful comments or remarks, feel free to do so, I for one would appriciate if you did.

A special Thanks to:

In-Game Roleplay Events / Eldoreth looks outside.
« on: April 14, 2007, 04:27:28 pm »
Eldoreth looks outside, the weather seems really bad.

He puts the note back in his pocket.

"Maybe tomorrow is a better day... if not... who knows."

Eldoreth smiles shortly and heads back to Monnwar and some nice warm milk.

General Discussion / GM Events, a couple of questions.
« on: March 09, 2007, 07:22:26 am »
Hello there everyone!

I am Proglin as a player, and Yill as a Game Master. Two seperated characters that both have a love for organising things. With Proglin it's guild quests and the tournaments I used to do. And with Yill it's the GM-events I organise together with the entire GM-team. These events are purely intended for you all to enjoy and give pretty shinies as rewards.... or not. I organised and wrote quiet a few now, and would like you all to tell me what you want. To keep it simple and understandable, here's a multiple choice sheeth for all of you. Please take some time to answer them and help me and the rest of team out when it comes to creating, hosting and organising these events.

1) What time-zone do you live in?
  a) GMT+0/GMT+2
  b) GMT+3/GMT+5
  c) GMT+6/GMT+8
  d) GMT+9/GMT+12
  d) GMT-1/ GMT-4
  e) GMT-5/ GMT-8
  f) GMT-9/GMT-11

2) How many GM events did you participate in as a whole?
  a) 0
  b) 1-2
  c) 2-5
  d) 6-10
  e) More.

3) What Type of events fo you prefer?
  a) Role-play
  b) Fighting, hacking and slashing.
  c) Riddles and puzzle solving.
  d) Scavenger hunt, collecting items and bringing them to the characters requesting them.
  e) No preferance.

4) Do the events last to long?
  a) Yes
  b) No
  c) Some of them
  d) A lot of them, but not every one of them.

5) What do you dislike most when it comes to events?
  a) All the walking
  b) OOC intteruptions
  c) The length
  d) the times when they are hosted.
  e) Other..................

6) GM events are made so that the players have a 99% chance of winning. Is it a good idea to lower this chance, making it so that a player can loose?
  a) Yes, it increases exitement.
  b) No, I awlays wat to win.
  c) Sometimes
  d) Other............

7) Small events always tend to be more realistic. Big events are always... big. Do you prefer Big epic events, or small events such as a woman in need of herbs?
  a) I prefer big epic events
  b) I prefer small events
  c) A mixture of both
  d) None.. gm events are boooooriiiing.

8) If you joined in one, do you enjoy GM events?
  a) A LOT!
  b) Yes, quite.
  c) Not really.
  d) A definite NO.
  e) what's a GM event?

9) GM events are random, cause otherwise it would be OOC. Do you prefer random events, or would you like to see a forum post announing one?
  a) I like it random, just as Role-play is supposed to be.
  b) I like them pre-announced, so I can join in the ROle-play.
  c) Couldn't care less.

10) And at last, rewards. What do you tink about the rewards in the events. Think realistic for this one.
  a) They are good as it is. No wonder you don't get a suit of heavy armour from a mushroom collector.
  b) To low. I want more stuff for the job I pulled.
  c) To high... where in the world did that mushroom lady get 10 times a farmers year salary from?!?
  d) Some are good, some are not. tough question, dunno.

And that concludes it for now. Please answer them as you please and take it somewhat serious even though some questions sound ridiculous. It would help me and other GM''s in creating bigger, better and more events. Thanks in advance and love you all.

Guides and Tutorials / GM-events, purpose, rules and general information.
« on: January 24, 2007, 09:24:28 am »
Following is an explanation of GM-events, the process of creating one, the aims of the Game Masters, the rules, general information and all the brave warriors, musical bards, magely mages and hard working miners need to know about them. I'm GM Yill, with acces level 24. Which means i have the commands and skills at my disposal to create, host and run events. I like running events and entertaining all of you, but there is some information I'd like to share.

What is a GM-event?

A GM-event is exactely what the name implies, an event hosted by the Game Moderation team. But not every Game Master is allowed to take on roles in  these events, one must first show his abillity to Role-play and have plenty of experience in role-playing. Talad tests this by asking a series of questions related to RP and your general knowledge of the broad fantasy theme. The people that he thinks have the needed experience to join an event as a character, will get the GM3 position. Those that are both Role-players and have slightly more experience, recieve the GM4 position. GM2's are given the chance to proof themselves aswell, but can not participate in an event as a character. However, the GM1's and GM2's are vital to every event as well, since they provide back-up and warn players that are out of line or acting disruptive. This leads to a minor problem as well... the chance that enough GM3's and GM4's can be online at the same time to throw larger events is relatively small, although the team is growing enough to regularly host events. Furthermore... GM-events are created for you to enjoy, for your fun, and to increase the amount of Role-play. Often consisting out of inruiging stories with interesting stories and surprising plots or tough tasks.

How do I join in a GM-event anyways?

Gm-events are NOT announced before they are hosted. that would be OOC.  Imagine a lady walking in your local shopping mall saying: "I'm about to loose my wedding ring in 30 minutes, could you come back then and help me search?" This is surreal. An event will happen without any notification to the players, unless RP suits it. So basically, be at the right time and the right place, just like you would expect in real life.

When one does encounter a character with a yellow label ( yellow label means he or she is a Game Master) Then stay in your RP role. Would a demonic warlord help a lady get some lake mushrooms? Would a miner save the world from a legion of Ulbernauts? I'd say no. If you are helpful and listen to the story the GM characters tell you, you can RP your way in by asking questions, or doing the tasks at hand. So Role-play your way in and keep in mind that the GM-characters are dynamic NPC-like characters.

The /event command.
This is a brand new command used by GM4's in events. The command makes it capable to let players know they joined in an event and what the events name is. When you RP yourself into an event, or want in at a later stage, you will be registered as a participator. A system message will appear when that has happened. The GM-event can now be found in the quest-tab, where normally only your active quets were displayed. My personal aim is to reward only those that  are registered, to keep lousy scumbags from getting a reward without doing a single thing. So... are you participating? make sure you are registered.

Did you join a little later? No worries! send a /tell to the character that opens the event and you will be registered. And might you have to walk the dogs, grab some coffee, or do some homework halfway through the event, not to worry either.... send a /tell you are leaving and you will get a reward for what has been done thus far.

What else?

Role-play! Role-play! Role-play! and a thousand times more. It's crucial to any event that you RP in them. They make the events immersive and interesting for all. In fact... during a GM event, we expect you to be RP-ing when you are joining, if not, we'll send a /tell then a warning and possibly a kick or a mute in the worst cases. We don't do this because we dislike you, but because we like the people that do RP a whole lot better  :woot:

don't get greedy! We really do not like /tells that read "gimme the award plz" or "will I get a reward?" or "Hey what about me?" All these questions can be role-played as well. And since we do not have the commands to award all of you simultaniously, patience is needed. We might take our time in the award part, but trust that you will get what comes to you.

Don't get impatient! We are doing an event while keeping an eye on about 40 people. It's a relatively busy and stressy undertaking at times.  Might we have missed a question, or something you said, just repeat it in a calm and patient kinda way.  Cause surprisingly enough... us GM's do not fly to work, or lift trucks either.

And in the end, there are rewards

The rewards... The biggest reward itself should be the event, in which time and effort was put in order to show it to all of you and let you have some additional fun. But Hell yeah! even I like goodies! So goodies we shall give.

Award for helping in the event: Mostly you'll recieve a small sum of trias for helping in the event
Award for completing the event: A bigger award is given to those that solve objectives of the event. Mostly trias and/or items
award for Role-play/activity: Do we see you as a great RP-er? or are you very active in this event? You will get a higher amount of PP's as a reward.

I think that about summarizes all of it. Bare in mind, that these events take time and effort from the GM's side. Solving them will take time and effort from the players side. We like doing events a lot :) and you should as well. There is always room to learn. So might you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to PM on of the GM4's or GM3's
