Remyl mourns the loss of beer and orders everyone a round in its memory.

Hiya Jonoth. ;D However, you know Oldbies don't go to the bathroom, they just sit behind their screens nitpicking until they are called... or not called as the case sometimes is.

Speak for yourself. I just made sure I went whenever I was in the Death Realm. This way when I got out my inventory was light enough to stand!

Remyl suggests spending the tria on ale and wenches and walks to the bar.

When there is a summoning I always picture warlock-style magic, and how much it must suck to be a demon getting summoned in the middle of taking a dump.

Also hi.

I don't know if Jonoth came back here or not

I mostly lurk lurkingly around the forum. I tried installing a while back and kept crashing repeatedly. Might give it a try again sometime. In any event...hi!

Remyl wasn't even a twinkle in my eye yet.

Interestingly enough, Remyl was "born" February 13th, so he just missed Valentine's Day.

General Discussion / Re: Feedback on new progression system
« on: April 17, 2014, 03:41:36 pm »
Because there is a strong RP community here, maybe there can be a storytelling approach to this. Perhaps the quests are what level up the skills or even stats (ie if you get a quest that makes you carry something heavy over a long time, you get points in strength and endurance, or a combat quest gives you points in the weapon/armor/magic school of your choice). This way, you get a few skills that level up faster (your primary skills), and the others can develop more slowly in the background for balance. You can even have the current trainers be the ones that offer the quests. As long as the quests are fun (I can see a love/hate relationship involving leveling intelligence and solving riddles XD), they turn the training from an issue of grinding or not to having an interesting story to follow. And it's alt friendly because you can have different quests for different skills, so leveling a strong, plated axe-wielder won't be exactly the same as leveling a fast, sneaky-sneaky dagger stabby guy.

General Discussion / Re: Is This Game Too Hard?
« on: February 03, 2014, 06:10:12 am »
The moving/vanishing NPCs are what bother me more than anything. It's either time-consuming or costly to get from place to place to quest or train, especially for lower levels, and to finally complete something and spend time or money to turn it in only to find the NPC of choice is MIA is screen-punchingly frustrating. I think quest NPCs at any level should stay put (not just the lower ones), and perhaps some "flavor NPCs" (ones that have no purpose other than to move around or talk about happenings) could fill in the void if the devs are aiming to make the world feel "alive". Moving needed NPCs is just straight up torture.

I'm not a fan of the PP system in general, but that's something for a much bigger discussion. At the moment, I think that quests should give out at least twice as many PP as they currently do, mainly because they are the primary source for new players, and while the community certainly presents itself as very helpful (kudos to everyone for that!), that help may not always be readily available, and because training itself is already a time sink, the increased PP may be a bit more encouraging to those starting up.

Lastly, I'm definitely for a Bronze Doors pterosaur. That run has always been monstrous, especially going back and forth. And unless things have changed drastically in my time away, I don't even recall using BD as much if at all once I got into the winch, so the flight would be infinitely more useful at the start. Perhaps it could be double the cost to go to the other cities, but I think players should start with BD flight, or just have a single quest from Krestal to see the pterosaur NPC in BD to unlock it.

Single Author Stories / Re: To Whom It May Concern

The air in Kada's seemed to go out at the sight: two ale mugs, still full, sitting in front of the Dwarf named Remyl Steeley. His gaze was one of distance, as if looking through the mugs, the table, through Hydlaa itself. Next to the mugs lay two metal enki fingers and an old, worn brown belt. The buckle on the belt was Dwarven in origin, a battle token that Remyl had won in his youth. He'd given it to his closest friend, who had worn it in plain sight all these years. Most had taken it as a spoil of war, and the menki decided to let them think it was so to ward off potential thieves. But Remyl knew what it was. Remyl knew what it stood for. Remyl was reminded again of the menki that had saved his life, and battled by his side. He knew that he had been an overbearing Dwarf, always chasing the next skirt that passed his eyes, or laughing his loud, hoarse laugh at a tale or joke. His friend just smiled, pleased to be in such positive company. No matter how many times he saw that grin, Remyl knew that his friend suffered on the inside, tortured by his past, tormented by his present, yet still hopeful of his future. That future, however, had gotten strung up on the ruqua in the secret garden, and now his friend was gone. Remyl knew where to. Remyl knew that he could not follow. Not yet, at least. Tomorrow, maybe, Remyl would remind himself to live on as he always had. Tonight, he simply stood up from his two mugs, still full, and walked out of the tavern, deluding himself that maybe tomorrow the mugs would still be there, and he and his friend would share a drink and laugh about old times...

------------------------------------------------------

The Well was cold and dark, the stench of corpses old and new filling his nose. He had stalked the nights once, hunting prey with the glint of golden circles in pouches at their side. This darkness was nothing to him. He had made a promise, after all, and he intended to keep it. The menki searched and scraped, looking for the face he'd seen in the Garden. His eyes gazed over the others, wondering if he'd been responsible for their fates, half expecting to see some of his old friends amongst the fallen. He thought about the criminals he robbed and killed alongside. He thought about the innocents that never judged what they did not know, and wondered if they could forgive him if they knew about the things he'd done. He may have had moments of valor in his life, but in his heart, if he could not forgive himself for what he'd done, how could any of the gods do the same? The fenki on the tree had told him that she wanted to start again, without the sins of her past. He wondered if she ever truly knew how alike they really were in that regard.

After a few hours, the body presented itself. An opportunist was in the depths plundering the wealth of the dead, when he came across the face with the black beads. The menki drew an old pair of sabres from a red cloth. The last thing the opportunist saw before his death was the bloody paw on his killer's face, and the cold eyes almost glowing in the darkness, like they were staring into his soul and judging him before his execution. The menki kicked the opportunist's body aside, and knelt beside the fenki. He had fought so hard for so long. All he ever wanted was to find peace with his wife at his side. He knew that this would be the only way. The sabres pieced through his bowels, blood pouring forth from the wound. He removed them and placed them at the side for the next thief, knowing that should Dakkru take him, he would not fight back for his life again. He curled up with the body, gave it a final kiss, and whispered into her ear.

"Rroh shrdah, Morla."

Jonoth Shyemlye closed his eyes, unafraid as the darkness took him.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Curious Observations- RP techniques and ideas
« on: September 20, 2013, 10:00:28 pm »
In developing characters, quirks help me avoid those little dry moments in RP, because those moments can often be a good time to play the quirk up. It can be something the character notices that most others wouldn't care about, or more commonly, something that speaks to that character's sense of humor. Anyone that's RPed with me knows that I use a lot of humor, as it's easier to play off of an extrovert than an introvert. That doesn't exclude introverts from finding the funny, though, and those seemingly out of character moments of folly can lead to other characters inquiring about it, and consequently continuing the RP flow.

I just read the long post, and thought it was a great read. I often find myself as one of the 'stats to back up rp' crowd, as when it comes to things like smithing, if I said I could make something, I had the compulsion to actually do it. It didn't stop me from RPing a certain way from the start, but rather made me choose which stats to work for (or ask of Xiosia XD). Allowing players on the RP server to allocate their own stats sounds interesting...perhaps there can be a way to give only a certain amount of points, so only x stats out of y could possibly be maxed, while still allocating points to others. That or start with one fighting or magic stat maxed and one profession, then grind from there.
