General Discussion / Looking for help with CW Master quest
« on: January 15, 2014, 11:14:57 am »
Hello people from Yliakum.

Today I managed to get a quest that should lead to become Crystal Way Master.
For this, I am looking for a Blue Way Master who is willing to assist me.
Unfortunately, in the last months, I could not find one ingame myself  :sorcerer:
I was adviced to post my question on the forums in the hope to find one.

If you are able to help, I would like to hear from you.
It is no problem to turn this into a nice RP thingy  :sorcerer:

Perhaps this could also be a good opportunity to create a informal group of mages (IC or OOC)?
Not only would it allow us to get to know each other like on MagCon, but it has the advantage that we can help each other with this kind of ... challenges?

Guilds Forum / [GUILD] The Lost Knights
« on: January 13, 2014, 05:21:15 am »
It is with pleasure that I present a new guild called The Lost Knights.
For those with a fine eye of detail, the guild itself is not new, but a former one with a new shiny coat  ;)
We have made a new fresh start with a new background story but with the same players as before.

The history of The Lost Knights
The history of Yliakum has gone through many eras, some were good, others were wealthy, but unfortunately there was also a dark era. This more recent period is known as the dark times. During many years, the people suffered from countless attacks by dark forces coming from behind the Stone Labyrinths. In the beginning, the attacks were moderate and concentrated at local places and cities. Each race living in Yliakum formed its own army and fought independently against their enemies. The Ylians guarded and defended the lands of Hydlaa, the Enkidukai patrolled the lands surrounding Ojaveda and so on. Life was not easy, but people managed and rejoiced after each victory. Until the dark forces launched a massive attack.

It was during the winterperiod that travellers on the plains close to Bronze Doors noticed the massive army marching from the Stone Labyrinths. The numbers were so large that the earth trembled as they drew near. When this news reached Hydlaa, it became clear that their army could not oppose the dark forces alone, so messengers rode out to all other races. Although there were differences between some races, the magnitude of this threat made everybody realise they had to work together in order to survive. Without much delay the armies gathered together on the plains behind the Koberas Pass. Here the allied forces faced the dark forces in a great battle. The battle lasted several months and it wasn't long before all allied soldiers fought side by side, regardless of race and rank. Many lost their lives on the fields, and those that survived the day, made new brothers sharing joy and sorrow.

The fights were fierce and in a final attempt to crush the enemy, every soldier fought singlehandedly against an opponent. It goes without saying this lead to a massive slaughter, but eventually they won the battle. During the aftermath, all dead bodies were gathered and burned in huge piles. There was no time to identify friend or foe, so all were burned. Those that survived mourned their fallen brothers in arms.

In the years that followed, life continued and everybody enjoyed their freedom. The threat of the dark forces faded away. People didn't care about it anymore, they simply forgot about the many that had lost their lives. Little did they notice of the dark forces roaming amongst them once more. This time not openly visible, but sneaky, lurking in dark places, slowly growing, waiting for better times.

Fortunately, some of the former soldiers sensed the growing threat. A handful of them left their safe homes and travelled to Hydlaa, hoping to find a way to change the tide. And it wasn't for long that they found each other. Over many mugs filled with ale at Kada-El, they talked about the old days and present events. The old knights agreed that something had to be done.

Could they assemble a new group of warriors? It would be a daunting task. How many would have stayed in these lands? How many of them might still be amoungst the living? It would be a quest for the lost knights.

Early next morning they left Kada-El knowing what to do. By forming a guild they would gather not only their old brothers in arms but also new members who could help fight the dark forces. Their focus would not only be on fighting, but much broader. Not just fighting, but creating a self sustaining guild was the goal. Besides warriors they would need crafters to make weapons, armor and such. And mages who could heal or create magical potions. People to gather information and knowledge. There would not be any kind of restriction as far as skills or determination was concerned.

More information on this new guild like its organisation and goals can be found on the guilds website.

Wish list / Change facial appearance
« on: January 04, 2014, 02:54:43 pm »
It would be great if you could change your facial appearance.
Like the option you chose when you create a new character: colour of your hair, the way it looks, kind of mustache/beard/etc.

Because over time, you might want to change it.
For example because a char get older, the colour of the hair changes?
Of because you have an RP reason why you lost your beard?

My proposal would be to use the same predefined options when you create a character.

Wish list / Maximum number of guild ranks
« on: December 19, 2013, 08:32:08 am »
I have looked through the forums but could not find anything on it except some old posts from years ago, hence a new topic.

At the moment, the maximum number of guild ranks is 9.
Would it possible, perhaps in the future, to increase this?

Development Deliberation / PS time (script)
« on: January 28, 2013, 02:08:40 am »
Is there more info on how the PS time is calculated (like some sort of reference to actual time)?
And is there a way to display the PS time on a website (with some script in sync with the PS server)?

Wish list / Helmets / clothing
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:55:36 am »
Not sure if these have been discussed recently (looked for it but couldn't find anything).

It would be nice if people could buy helmets. Weapons and armor are available, through looting or buying, but helmets aren't. Just like the numerous kinds of weapons, the same could apply to different kind of helmets. Buying them wouldn't have to be cheap though otherwise nobody would take the quest to get one.

Another thing would make a great addition is clothing. All one can do now is wear armor. Additional clothing like robes would make it possible to become a priest or something (of course I know Jedi aren't part of PS, but their robes are the best example). Or something like magicians wear. If you try to behave/RP both examples in basic Ylian clothing is in my humble opinion less convinceable than when you actually look like one. Other players would be tempted to play along easier.

Linux Specific Issues / Update fails on CentOS 5.4
« on: February 22, 2010, 02:34:45 pm »
Today I discovered I needed to update the client.
When I ran pslaunch and tried to update, it crashed with a message about missing libcurl.so.4

CentOS 5.4 comes with curl-7.15.5-2.1.el5_3.5 and libcurl.so.3.

I tried to use curl from Fedora 9, curl-7.18.2-1.fc9.i386.rpm, but that doesn't work because of the version of openldap.
And when I want to solve that dependency, the list of things to solve becomes huge.

Is there a way around?
Without it I can't update the client  :'(

Edit: found out that there is a new client available as download, trying that one ...

General Discussion / What's your favorite location?
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:09:30 am »
The world of Planetshift contains several locations.
And I was wondering, what's your favorite location?

I like Hydlaa best. Not because I spawn there, but because there is much player activity and because of its diversity of what you can do there (ranging from exploring the sewers to having a drink in the Tavern).

Linux Specific Issues / Waterfall City (still) not reachable
« on: January 11, 2007, 01:54:42 am »
Since Waterfall City may it's appearance into the wonderful world of PlaneShift, I can't go there.
The infamous "black earth" prevents me from seeing where to go.

Since then, many periodical updates passed, including a major one (new client) and still, I can't go there.
So far, I've removed version.dat and ran ./updater, I removed psc and ran ./updater but no succes ...

Am I the only one or is this still a problem which needs to be fixed?

When I move from Hydlaa to Ojaveda, as soon as I enter the forrest, there is a glitch in the map switch.

Yesterday, it took me some time to get through (walking back and forth).
But today, I seem to have fallen down (onto the "underlayer of the path").

Using /unstick caused me to end up in DR... ??

Wish list / Webcam feature
« on: May 22, 2006, 08:25:20 am »
Wouldn't it be nice if there would be one or perhaps more webcams?

People not in the game can see what goes around in our great world.
You could think of a webcam in Hydlaa, Ojaveda and the Arena.
