Attention all Mac users, please post your system specs and how well Planeshift runs in this thread so that we will easily be able to help you in the future. If your specs are posted here, we can try to establish some sort of pattern to bugs and crashes. In addition, we won\'t have ask for your specs anymore. Please follow the format below. Make sure to include whether Planeshift runs, your average FPS (frames per second), and any bugs you\'ve encountered.
Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc):
Mac OS Version (x.x.x):
Processor (speed, type):
RAM:

Ojaroad/Forest: 50-70
Trepor Fields: 10-15
Hydlaa: 5-20
Sewers: 60-90
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
- updater and pssetup open, yet crashes immediately
- game crashes upon looting if monster contains loot
- Jayose\'s library books can not be examined or moved into inventory
- GUI windows all messed up (looks as if background image is squished to the top of the window)
There may be more, but I\'m limited as to what I can do (No looting = no money, so I can\'t test buying, selling, etc.) Plus, I haven\'t had much time to play lately. I\'ll update as I encounter more.
Cha0s\'s edit: removed reference to tab issue. This is not platform specific and has been dealt with by stfrn. Should be fixed in the next update.

Planeshift runs (y/n): Yes
Average FPS:
Version 020 runs almost fine, and the area in the BD are finally not black anymore. BUT - There's too much lag, especially around the plaza.
I'm running on Leopard - and I get a strange failure with my character. Sometimes invinsible, and body parts mixed around. I'm not quite sure if it's the program or what - yet!
These texture failures got solved with the adding of lines to psclient.cfg and to the opengl.cfg, but now the games suddenly quits after 1 to 5 minutes.

RAM: 768 MB
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATI Mobility Radeon 9200, 32 MB
Planeshift runs (y/n): y
Average FPS: 20/30
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
- some locations have black textures : spiral path in death realm, ground around the house in the forest.
- hard to go from ojaroad to ojaveeda : going from road to veeda loads veeda world, then moving forwards immediatly reloads road region, then coming back to veeda restarts this reloading cycle.

Computer type: G4 Tower (Mirrored Door Drive)
Mac OS Version: 10.4.4
Processor: dual-1GHz
RAM: 1.25 GB
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, 64 MB
Planeshift runs: yes
Average FPS (under 0.3.11 release):
(All measured while running, as Klyros)
Sewers: 70-90
Hydlaa Plaza area: 25-50 (away from statue), 11-25 (towards statue)
Road through hills: 17-21
Forest: 20-80 (cornering - straight line)
Arena: 15-70 (15 = going down stairs)
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
- When I quit, client gives crash error every time.
- (Klyros-only) Traversing stairs in tavern still a bit jerky, but at least it doesn\'t crash the game like it used to. Klyros get trapped if they go to the balcony on the first storey at the back of the tavern. You can\'t jump over the rails to get back to the side door. Trying it sometimes causes your character to \"jam\" and need to /unstick
- Untextured (black on black) sections in death area (especially spiral staircase), in catacombs under Temple, and occasional other places.
- Mouse cursor invisible if taken outside bounds of Planeshift window, while PS is still foregrounded.
- If I background app while in the middle of an area change/load, and then click on the app in dock to foreground it again, occasionally the client hangs in \"Paused\" mode and I have to force a quit.
- Can\'t seem to stop PS pausing while backgrounded, no matter what the forums say.
- No support for alternative to right-click on one-button mouse. Ctrl-click work-around on forums is fine until you next run the updater, which immediately overwrites your file change.
- User prefs should be stored in Library folder in user\'s Home, not in application folder.

Hello all!
Computer type: iMac
Mac OS Version: 10.4.2
Processor: 800 MHz, PowerPC G4 (2.1)
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX, 32 MB
Planeshift runs (y/n): yes, but pssetup doesn\'t. I used Chaos\'s java Updater to get the client working, but pssetup still quits immediately. I also tried the command line permissions thing for pssetup, probably in a redundant addition to the Updater, but that didn\'t help.
Average FPS: I don\'t know how to display this (I tried adding the plugin line to psclient.cfg, recommended in an early forum, but can\'t see it yet).
Platform-specific bugs encountered: Client crashes when I loot a rat that has something. Client also crashes when I quit. Changed adaptive distancing to 50 to reduce lag.
In case any of you see me in the game, I\'m currently Zircon Babeuf ...
-
Hi Chaos
My Specs:
iMac G4
OS X 10.4.2
CPU: 800MHz
SDRAM: 512Mb
Video Card: nVIDIA (0x10de) GeForce 4 MX
VRAM: 32Mb
Planeshift runs (through Terminal)
Average FPS 20-30 (Much more at times, but drops alarmingly in certain locations - often entrances - boundaries - for example the entramce to the tavern, where I get 0.3 FPS consistently!)
PSsetup ran once has not run since I re-downloaded PsClient.
In game I cannot do anything that brings up a dialog box (Widgets seem to be missing) - Looting, selling, buddy list, inventory etc.
In all cases it crashes with a segmentation error.
Do you want a crash log for an example of this?
At the moment I am getting by on a seriously underspecced PC that makes watching paint dry seem a more fascinating experience!
Many Thanks
Arka

Computer type: 15\" Titanium Powerbook
Mac OS Version: 10.2.8
Processor: 667 mhz G4
RAM: 512mb
Video Card: ATI Rage 32mb
Planeshift runs: Yes
Average FPS: 4-8 (Plaza) 24-60 (Elsewhere) (I keep sound off, run adaptive distance in the Plaza and run in a low resolution)
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
1. Nearly all of Death Realm, most of the Dungeon and other odd landscape/building polygons are black
2. Not sure if it\'s mac-specific, but flying can cause just a floating in the air. Pretty cool though.
3. Sound (music specifically) crashes the game when switching between regions or songs- i.e. from Hydlaa plaza entering the Temple.
Cheers ChaOs,
Xirius

Platform-specific bugs encountered: None.
Cha0s\'s edit: please please please observe the format indicated at the beginning of this thread. I\'ve changed it for you, but I\'d rather not have to do that. As far as your video card goes, you can find that in the Apple System Profiler under Graphics. However, I happen to know that the only card included with the 1.67 GHz 15\" Powerbooks is the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (with either 64 or 128 MB of VRAM).

Using:
PowerMac
10.4.9
DP 2.5 GHz G5
6.5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 XT, 128 MB
Planeshift 0.3.019 does run
Crippling lag since 019 was introduced in most of Hydlaa Plaza, near racial spawn points, and odd locations in Arena, near lower sewer entrance, East Hydlaa, entrance to Ojaveda, and at several locations in Death Realm.
By crippling, I mean that in order to navigate, I must stop forward movement, tap arrow keys until I turn, then resume forward movement. Then stop, turn, resume. Kinda robot-like. Otherwise, I end up chugging into buildings, walls, stair railings, or off catwalks to my doom.

iMac/Power Mac(8,2) G5
OS 10.4.3
1.8 GHz G5
1 GB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9600, 128MB VRAM
Planeshift version 0.3.012 (updated from 0.3.011 on 11/07/2005)
Planeshift runs
Average FPS: 25-125 (depending on time and area).
Errors/Stuff I encountered:
- (mac) updater.app (not the java updater) pegs the cpu to 70%
- total system freeze when SHIFT + OPTION etc. key used too much
-
Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc): Mac Mini
Mac OS Version (x.x.x): 10.3.9
Processor (speed, type): 1.25 GHz G4
RAM: 1024 GB

Planeshift runs (y/n): y
Average FPS: 50-60
Platform-specific bugs encountered: I don\'t know if this is mac only bug, but a whole lot of areas are just black. Like the stair case in the death realm is gone. And a whole lot of other textures turn black sometimes. Also, whenever i try to use mouse look and run, it automatically selects my character and doesn\'t let me do anything at all. I have to shut down my computer afterwards.

All right, here we go. I\'m hoping that what I\'m doing isn\'t worthy of flaming *ducks* but I need some help.
Computer type: PowerPC G4 (eMac)
Mac OS Version: 10.3.9
Processor (speed, type): 1.25 GHz
RAM: 256 MB DDR SDRAM
Video Card (type, VRAM): (sorry, I checked my system info & couldn\'t find it, not sure)
Planeshift runs: I can open the client, but I\'m getting the server 100 fail notice. I\'m trying to connect when the fragnetics site says the server\'s up & running. I ran the updater. I don\'t have a firewall. I searched the forums, and yes, I saw plenty of posts with similar problems, but as far as I can tell, not the solutions I need. Please help me if you can, & keep in mind I\'m a total dunce when compared with all of you techies. Well, I just made the switch from PC to Mac, and my first thing to do was get the Mac version of PS. It\'s been troublesome. Here are my specs.
Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc): Powerbook
Mac OS Version (x.x.x): 10.4.3
Processor (speed, type): 1.5 GHz, PowerPC G4

Planeshift runs (y/n): no, I guess

Platform-specific bugs encountered
Well, I can get the client up (though it says the server is down). I tried to run both the updater and pssetup. Both close themselves immediately, so I tried to use the terminal command stated in the readme, and it does the same thing. It opens, then closes, and I get the following error:
The application has quit unexpectedly.
Then an option to reopen, which does nothing.
I also tried updater.jar on a whim, no help.
I know this isn\'t the place to post problems, but I figure it couldn\'t hurt.

Average FPS: .__.?
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
O___o Okay I read the \"guide to running planeshift on Mac\" Etc etc. and read the info about how to fix the server issue with the firewall and everything. .__. But it didn\'t see any possible firewall blocking anything and I took the advice about going into the data folder and opening up the firewall and everything. @___@ But it\'s not working! I still can\'t log in, it just says the server is down.
Even though it states in the forums that it\'s up. D:
Is this because I\'m on a G5? @___@
Unless I\'m just a moron, I\'m really confused if it\'s me or the computer or what.
xO I would love help with this, thank you for your time.

Platform-specific bugs encountered: After I double click the app. the planeshift window does this thing where it displays a telescoping screenshot of my desktop. i.e. a picture inside a picture inside a picture. Everything is illegible. So I launch it in full screen mode which is only mildly better since it has less of a screenshot to telescope. The login window says at first \'wait 100\' then changes to \'fail 100\'. After I try to connect it says the server is either down or unreachable and to check the website. It does allow me to quit. And the startup music is quite nice. Let me know whether I should just give up and delete the Planeshift folder. Oh yes one more thing, I have used both the included and the jar updaters.

Platform-specific bugs encountered: I dunno\' if these are platform specific, but huge gaping holes in the texture exist outside of the the cities. The entrance to the sewers graphics bleed outrageously and I fall through textures fairly easily at the entrances. That and I tend to have lag-spikes every couple of seconds, which is kind of nauseating. Altogether, if this game wasn\'t free, I wouldn\'t play it for more than 3 minutes.
EDIT: 2/8/2006
Noticably better performance on OS X 10.4.4 from 10.3.9. Everything looks, lights, and works a little bit better. In many ways, it\'s a LOT better. So, consider upgrading if you\'re on the fence. Spotlight alone is a decent reason to upgrade, widgets are neat as well. Bear in mind I have more RAM than I normally ever use.
EDIT: 3/27/06
Not running v.13 since update.

Platform-specific bugs encountered: Other than some waves of crashes (sometimes it\'ll crash 8 straight times, others it\'ll run smooth for a couple of hours), all I found were some graphic problems where the image is \"draged\" when you move, I found them at sewers (mostly on spiderwebs, but also on corridors), arena (on the lowest level, at some corridors) and at the end of sector Kor1 (the corridor between the mountains and the forest that goes to Ojaveeda, but it only showed on the way back from Ojaveeda). Only other bug is, on the exit of the sewers, the one behind the tavern, if you are leaving the sewers, the same image draging bug happens when you step on the last step, there, if you rotate, you can see the sewers below you, and if instead of taking that last step up towards the front, you take it to the left, you\'ll fall into the sewers and sometimes (no, not always) you\'ll die. This last one is easy to avoid once you know it, but it was really weird the first time it happened to me.

Greetings one and all;
Here are my computer specs:
Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc): MacBookPro 15"
Mac OS Version (x.x.x): 10.4.8
Processor (speed, type): 2GHz, Intel Core Duo
RAM: 2 GB
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATY, RadeonX1600, 128
Planeshift runs (y/n): Yes & No
Average FPS: Not sure yet
Platform-specific bugs encountered: Pixelated graphics, pssetup will not run (therefore, I manually edit the config files and get the changes that way), upon entering the world for the first time after creating a character the game crashed totally (will update once I have the chance to play around more).
Update 2007/02/07: After using the Java updater if I am patient enough I can get through the pixelated screens and into the very nice playabel universe. Some of the windows that open (ie. shortcuts, status, etc.) are quite pixelated, but other than that it appears to work fine now, not sure how to check the FPS though? Once the server is back up I will also attempt to make the right click changes that I have read about.
Update 2007/05/28: After turning off video compression all the pixelation problems disappeared and I can now trade and loot.

Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc): MacBook
Mac OS Version (x.x.x): 10.4.9
Processor (speed, type): 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card (type, VRAM): Intel GMA 950, 64 MB VRAM
Planeshift runs (y/n): y
Average FPS: (unknown, did not measure)
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
- Always crashes when trying to trade
- Most 2D graphics scrambled (mostly, pixel mess in the lower half, sometimes the lower half of a 2D graphic is shifted by half the width)
- Sometimes, a graphic is not present (I had the black/white square image for some flowers or bushes outside of town)
Update: After I turned off texture compression, all of the problems mentioned above magically disappeared. Now, only one problem is left:
- After quitting, psclient crashes. First, it hangs for about 20 seconds, then the application crash window pops up. The negative effect of this is that I have to set my keyboard bindings every time anew.

Computer type (i.e. Powerbook, G4 Tower, etc): Mac Mini

Processor (speed, type): Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz

Average FPS: Didn't measure/Not sure how to
Platform-specific bugs encountered: I had to turn the graphic compression off to avoid crashes when trading. Now, the game play isn't as smooth (it's slightly choppy).
I hope this info helps!
Cheers!

Processor (speed, type): 1.47ghz
RAM: 512mb DDR
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATI RAEDON 9600
Planeshift runs (y/n): Not really.
Average FPS: Havent got into the game properly yet.
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
For some reason I cant make a Dwarf with a father who is a famous Weapon Smith. Game crashes if I do. All other options work.
Also I had to turn down the font scaling AND alter the video settings in order to get the game to even TRY to load the game
(just did that thing mentioned under IMPORTANT for intel Macs, seemed to do something).
Then I found I had to be logged in as root/admin in order for the game to load without crashing part way through. (still need the other settings set so it works though)
Now for some reason it disconnects my internet as soon as it loads me into the game. I get to see the city and it pops up the message that the server is busy,
then when the game shuts down the net has been disconnected.
This only happens with this game and the net is normally on for days at a time.

Platform-specific bugs encountered:
When loading character, usually unexpectedly quits. When I get into a game, textures are either black, the skybox, or the non-texture (where everything that goes over it isn't cleared). With fullbright on, it seems that I can only see the proper textures occasionally, usually when I can also see the non-texture. Models are also screwed up. They seem to inherit parts from other nearby players, and donate as well. For example, my character will have only a floating head, and the rest of his body will be on someone else, or floating on the end of his pick. And occasionally there will be another players model at his location.

Yes, like in v19 it works great in the quiet area's when entering Oja, hydlaa OS-X freezes completly. When hanging arround
at the roads I can run arround for hourhs. When entering a area like Hydlaa I can walk arround for a few min, after the crash
I'm unable to logon again, until I move my character outside the gate to the Magicshop, or other places like this, and I can logon
again. With v18 everything was just running great. From the quiet places I don't notice any performance issues at all.
EDIT:
Client works like a dream now, after making the changes in the cfg file. Everything works great for hourhs now and no crashes.
Also I don't have the well known grass performance issue.
Thanks!

After 1 minute the system freezes completely. Sad as there seems to be no lag at all at Harnquist (as I experienced on my PC).

Also never had a problem in running the 018 version. It was always running smoothly.

Planeshift did not run, pssetup and psclient crashed on startup. Edited r3dopengl.cfg to set texture mapping to false and it starts. Didn't get account verification yet, so cannot comment on other items.

Average FPS: Not too sure - but ATI settings at max with 4.0 and 4.01, in-game distance options set to 1000. Mostly no need anymore for using Adaptive Settings in-game
Platform-specific bugs encountered: No more lag in Hydlaa since 4.01 (new lag problems with Oja Road 2) and a range of new bugs since 4.01 (all show up in the bugtracker). Guildhouse is also now very laggy, but could be due to amount of items stored in there, but it was fine with 4.0... GMs have been most helpful in moving my character when needed

[upgraded my mac, so I post a new reply]
Computer type: iMac Intel 24"
Mac OS Version: 10.5.5
Processor: 2.8 Ghz intel core 2 duo
RAM: 4GB
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATI,RadionHD2600, 256mb
No real big issues, it runned fine. Except some area's where exceptional dark. So I used the shader bug to fix this.
Further, it runs very smooth. A map loads like in 2-3 seconds!! Wow!! Stability is good, no crashes at all.

The game does not work at all. I haven't even been able to begin playing this. I get to open the launch window and that's it!
Here's the link to the thread I posted. Hope I can get some help!

Computer type: Macbook
Mac OS Version: 10.4.11
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRMA (hope this is right?)
Video Card (type, VRAM): Intel GMA 950, 64 MB (again, hope this is the right information that you are looking for?)
It runs pretty well and I've used several fixes for small issues.
However, there is at least one gap in the maps between OjaRoad1 and Hydlaa. Can't get any further to find more gaps...

My character can't leave Hydlaa without the program crashing. It happens on the roads out of the Bronze Door and East Door and also in the sewers. The system goes to the loading scenario screen and then goes black and up comes my desktop. I read all the postings and there seem to be one or two folks with similar problems, but I've yet to read a solution. This is the only major problem I've come across so far, after two weeks of playing.
