Title: [Guild] Hyldaa's Patrol Squad
Post by: Samuelious on July 18, 2006, 08:41:10 pm
By the way, anyone wanting to join post here, then I'll just go online and invite you. ;)

Have any of you noticed the increased crime rate in our city? Are you a victim? Get back at those scoundrals by joining my squad.

I am at the head of a soon-to-be police squad. I am in need of members who can fight above average, or are very stealthy. If you wish to join, please contact me (Samuelious) in Hyldaa or elsewhere.

The hired fighters are payed well. One particular fenki was payed 10k for a small amount of work. The spies will be payed daily, since it is difficult to track their work.  will require an interview before I hire you. Places I most frequently visit are Harnquist's, the tavern, the dungeons...all around Hlydaa. Please contact me if you are interested.

If you are hired as a patroler, you will patrol through Hyldaa mostly, maybe elsewhere, and if you confront a criminal onthe wanted list, you will be provided with a wanted list, from minor criminals to notorius killers. If you are to confront a criminal on your patrol, you are to offer them a chance to pay the fine, or, if not, offer them to challange you or bring them to a hired judge (which may be me) to face trial to decide their jail time in the dungeons. ;D If they refuse both of those options, their names will be put on the coward list, which will be announced throughout the city.

What do I earn in all this? Not much, it's mostly non-profit for me. I will however collect any payments made from the thieves for their acts, but otherwise my profit will be non-existent.

FORUM (nothing will be visible unless you sign up, but you can't sign up unless you are a member of the squad. You can however sign up as a citizen, although you will not be able to view all of the boards.):

Help me to clean up this city.

Um...hehe... , well, that's a completely different thing. My squad will actually patrol the city, punish criminals, restore peace, etc. \\o//

By the way, anyone wanting to join post here, then I'll just go online and invite you. ;)

Well I for one LOVE the idea, but then again I'm here to cut you down. In no way can you actualy uphold the law and junk. Even if you RP it, it'll get dificult when you have to challenge for a duel.

Anyway, please tell me where you're mostly found. Talamir needs to come pwn.  :innocent:

Wait, wait...there's a wanted list. Nevermind, this pwns. I'm for it!

EDIT: Karyuu, is that the dev team after an update? The sig I mean.

I'd love to see (or hear about!) some scenarios that you have handled. Are the "criminals" talked to OOCly to arrange a fun RP episode, in whatever direction, so both parties cooperate? What happens to those who refuse to be "caught by the law", in an OOC sense? I imagine that there will be many such scenarios. Fun, either way!

But "Police of Yliakum" sounds really...vast. Yliakum is absolutely huge - 8 levels! I'd imagine that the Octarchs have their own 'policemen' so to speak, so this may interfere a little. Unless you're just self-proclaimed :} If there's more of a tone of "official police", it may be problematic. Who hires the judge? Who hears trials? Where are they held? There's is a small amount of settings questions that you should take into consideration.

Robinmagus: You know it (http://qdb.ps-mc.com/?267) :P

Not sure what you meant by the last part, but like I said, people will learn to respect the law and accept the punishment if they know they will be put on the coward list, which is a list of all people who refuse to roleplay and just accept the punishment for their actions.

I see what you mean. Maybe I should renme that to be The Police of Hlydaa, since that's what I meant. I just kind of wanted it to be an opposition to The Thieves of Yliakum. :D

As for scenerios, I myself (my character) did not go out on patrol to hunt down the criminals, that is why I am hiring workers! One of my patrolers who finished her contract hunted down and killed several on the list, and from what I gathered I am guessing it  was in RP mode. That is the way I want to it to be, because it is an RPG, isn't it? I don't think I will arrange scenerios, because then the police and the criminals would always be fighting to decide who should win the match, because there will be money at stake. All encounters will be handled in RP mode, but won't be plannedd out in advance. People may object to the law "hiring" itself, but since Planeshift is still under development, some things have to be done yourself. That's what I intend to do. Mainly though, i just want to have some fun.

Thanks for your interest. 8)

Awesome :] Do you have any sort of ranking system in the works?
Title: Re: The Police of Yliakum
Post by: Janner on July 19, 2006, 05:18:43 am
I will beat Gag to it , he used  Hlydaa, and was told not allowed, remember  Hlydaa carriers.

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean Janner - can you provide a bit more detail? :>
Title: Re: The Police of Yliakum

Gag was told he could not use  Hlydaa.
Title: Re: The Police of Yliakum
Post by: Karyuu on July 19, 2006, 05:25:47 am
By whom, specifically? That's a ridiculous thing to say, and there is certainly no such "rule". If someone slipped that to Gag in the past, it was a grave error that should not be repeated.

Janner, how can you not use a city? :ban:

Karyuu, I was planning on some sort of ranking system. Maybe something like:

1. Veteren Officer
2. Hardened Officer
3. Officer
4. Undisciplined Officer
5. New Recruit
6. noob (just kidding :D )

Gag was told he could not use  Hlydaa.

As a character name. Half a year ago. When I wanted to create a newspaper guy, I was not allowed to call him "Hydlaa Courier". It would have required a guild - in a guild name, titles from the settings are possible, but not in a character's name.

I'm sorry, I'm not tryign to be mean, I like the idea really, but,  Police of Yliakum??

There's already soooo many giulds with 'of Yliakum' in them.  Thieves, Vespers, Helpers, now Police, and I'm sure there are more.  I over heard a comment the last time I logged into PS.  It went something along the lines of, "Wow, is there a rule that every new giuld in Yliakum has to end in 'of Yliakum'?" The response I overheard was, "affraid so."  They were joking of course, but I hope you can see my point.  I'm not saying that it's a bad name for a giuld, but the 'of Yliakum' thing is getting a little old, well at least to me anyway.  Why not, Protective Police Squad or something?  Okay bad example, but I was never good at making names anyway.  Anyways, I think its great that you want to start something like this and if you like the name, run with it, but perhaps it could be named better? Diversify, become unique in not only what you and your fellow giuld mates do, but also in name.  A unique and catchy name sticks out and is remembered more than one that blends in with all the rest.

1. Veteren Officer
2. Hardened Officer
3. Officer
4. Undisciplined Officer
5. New Recruit
6. noob (just kidding :D )

Good start :} I'd perhaps recommend adding more variety though, just to make things more interesting. Some words that may have a spark to them: fledgling, trainee, initiate, enforcer, lawman, patrolman, trooper, overseer, etc. It's a good idea to provide engaging rank names for members to strive for.

Great suggestions guys, thanks. By the way,  Ionce heard you had to pay real $ to have a guild...sort of like a bonus to Planeshift...is this true?! :woot: Probably not.

Name....name....you're right about the "of Yliakum" thing. Hmm, I'll have to keep thinking...what about..."Hyldaa's Patrol Squad"? :-[

Do you mind if I use some of those ideas, Karyuu, for the list of ranks?

Thanks again guys. :)

p.s. oh great...someone joined my forum when I specifically said it was only for squad members :ban: ...hmm I might make it possible though for members to join as citizens, but not view the secret boards like the wanted list.

Hi,
Just one more thing for you to think about PS is hard coded for 9 (including guild leader) levels in a guild i think you posted only 6 so you need to add a few more.

That's bullcrap :P PlaneShift doesn't charge anyone for anything. But you will need to have tria to start your guild - 20,000, to be exact. Also be sure to have at least four members ready to invite within 5 minutes of the guild's creation in the game, otherwise you'll find it disbanded. This information is available in the Creating Your Guild sticky, but just in case you haven't heard of the requirements before.

I posted them for you, so they're all yours.

That's generally how most guild forums are arranged. There may be a public "guild hall" type of forum section, but the meat of the forum is viewable only to guild members.

Hyldaa's Neighbourhood Watch>>> lol

Thanks Illori.

Karyuu, I started a guild before, but didn't know about that rule, so I lost 20k. :'(

I think then I will be making my forum available to citizens as well, and I will name the squad Hyldaa's Patrol Squad. :D

Now, any recruits?

hhmmm A beggar was killed yesterday. The hand that held the blade was Xillix but many believe she was controlled.

Sounds ideal for this guild.

Time to investigate?

Might get you some recruits aswell.

Well I'm glad you decided to get rid of the "Of Yliakum" part, mainly because you are not the only police guild in the game but that name does make it sound like you are the only one.

That being said I hope you find some willing members to start this off and as soon as you do I'm hoping to work on some relationships between your Hydlaa guards and my own guild.

Also maybe you can take a look here, it might give you some new ideas ... it's my own guild, the Vaal Guard, a guard unit that works in Ojaveda.

Good luck!

Ah, I didn't see this mentioned, but what was the name of the guild changed to since "Of Yliakum" got dropped? It would be a good idea to edit the first post in this thread to reflect that change.

Thanks Zan.

Good idea, Karyuu. It's "Hyldaa's Patrol Squad" now. :flowers:

Well, I got another forum member, but they don't say that they want to join, so I can't let them into the squad. Please, if you sign up, let me know if you want to join the squad!

The Civil Patrol was a failure they only got criticized by the "citizens" after some tests. They are currently working on a way to fix that.
