The Charic
A noble pet often used for hunting and fighting, aswell as a friend. They come in many different collour veriaties and styles. They have sharp claws and fangs, and are also very entelligent for animals. Some say they understand english (Or whatever language is used in this game) though can't use it themselves because of their vocal cords. [it looks like a cross between a fox and a cat]

What you guys think? Apperently this is what coms out of my mind when I'm bored :/ Its not my fault! :innocent:
-
It is not a Charic - it's an ordinary cat.
-
I didn't tell you it's size... did I? Its as big as a wolf. And it doesn't meow.
-
So it's an ordinary wolf? With funny coloring? :whistling:
That or an over fed cat...
Either way, don't see much special in terms of creativity.
-
ok the other responses were frank but somewhat true. Your drawing is pretty good but as far as the design of the animal goes, it lacks originallity. Besides if youve ever heard of a linx, puma, cougar, panther, etc. they are all cats that are about the size of wolves. You could continue with the same drawing because it is digital and twaek it to make it more interesting. Regardless, dont let yourself be dissuaded by other peoples almost rude posts (Robinmagus) keep at it, and dont be afraid to go crazy with your imagination.
-
I guess your right, but I really can't think of anything to draw, any ideas?
-
I hate to say it but the picture does look like a cat. :) I think Gentar made some pretty good suggestions and I am in agreement with his post. Maybe you could change the legs to be thinner and also change the muzzle to either be shorter or longer and get rid of the cat appearance. Stretch out the ears maybe? Play around with it and change up the body parts. Good luck.
-
give it spikes on its back like a stegasuarus.

better?
heres it with spikes on its back

actually. a panther has no definate size, because a panther is not a specific species or breed of cat, its a summerization of all big cats, wich is why when somone talks about a black panther....it could be a lion, tiger, bobcat, cheata whatever.....just all black, hence black panther= panther=big cat :D but yeah i agree with Gentar.. i think your heading in the right direction , maybe give him 3 tails, anything crazy like that.....but i dont think you should make the legs thin, ( animals with thin legs are fast and built for speed if this animal is supposed to be for fighting and hunting the legs shouldnt be to thin nor to bulky " cats have thin legs and are very fast, large breeds of dogs have huge legs and are powerfull ) maybe try to come up with something sort of in the middle. i can also see the difrences in the animals parts how some are cat-like others dog-like and then the skull is more like a arctic-fox.. all in all nice art .and no dont pay attention to Robinmagus apparently he dont have any wolvs in his area of the world because that looks nothing like a wolf muzzle is to short, legs arent long nuff, well unless its a wolf pup then it does kinda look the same.
about the second set. it looks like his head is deformed hehe ...but ewww take out the spikes lol
-
Now it looks more canine than feline.... the snout seems too dog-like. Perhaps give it back the cat look, give it the spines, and make it breathe atmoic fire, and you have Catzilla... :D Or take away the atomic breath and just have some scary cat creature :) And what most people think of when they say panther is actually a black leopard.
-
but i dont think you should make the legs thin, ( animals with thin legs are fast and built for speed if this animal is supposed to be for fighting and hunting the legs shouldnt be to thin nor to bulky " cats have thin legs and are very fast, large breeds of dogs have huge legs and are powerfull )
;) This is also the real world your applying this logic too. We are talking about an imagination. Big cats in the wild rely on their back feet for speed and their tail for balance. The front feet are only basically a guide to which direction they wish to take. There are many postings of Fan Art section with ceatures that have for example two huge legs and next to no arms if any at all. Or maybe this creature Gyerfry is creating eats plants? Who knows.
I had a thought when looking at this picture to have the front legs thin and the back legs bulky. I don't think it would effect the creatures movement. Also maybe changing the tail completely to not look like a Cat, fox's or dogs tail. Maybe more reptilian.
[Edit] Another idea I had was maybe you don't have to have the creature furry everywhere. Maybe perhaps you could have it so there is just a strip of fur on the back and in other places in small amounts.
-
acually its tailis furry like a wolf's. And it needs bulky front legs because its used for hunting and fighting.

Heres another pet:
Rolag
A herbivor with a long black prehensal tail, face markings and fur like a raccoon, and the body of an oppossum (but no pouch because its NOT a marsupial). Its tail is used for balance when jumping fom tree to tree and for snatching things it's short arms can't reach. Its diet consists of fruits, vegitibles, leaves, and sometimes grass. They too are belived to understand english though unable to use it. They are good with their hands (and tail) and are helpful when building small projects.

I like the new one :D much better
-
That's a pretty small animal, like a kitten...attacking an apple. Excuse my sarchasm ;)
It's much better then the last. It is still cat/dog- like. I don't know, it looks like a kitten to me. Could you try some new shapes? Maybe not a fourlegged creature, there are too many of those. Maybe a biped with big wet eyes able to see in the dark, wooly fur making it look like a fruit if you take it's fur color into consideration.
D*** it, I was supposed to be brainstorming...I have discovered i'm not really good at giving someone tips without it turning into a sarchasm. Just try to make it unique, add more toes, make it slim, give spikey fur, whatever. It's your choice. Only your imagination can set the boundaries. That is what art is and you will discover that you can manipulate things into whatver you like with your pen, or mouse. Don't worry about what others will think, you decide the rules.
Now go and do it! :)
-
I think you should make it element specific maybe, that always adds a new twist. Maybe you could make it more fish like, for the undersea races, or more air-like, or eath-like, etc.
That way there's no way it could be like anything here...unless there are dogfishes, or dogbirds...or dog..rocks! Imagine the possiblities, bahahahahahaha. :sorcerer: :sweatdrop:

Well, I have a harder time dealling with critisismthan everyone else.. most people who critisize e without helping either don't know or are trying to get a reaction out of me... And I like the racopossum the way it is, but the charic can get improvements....

I hope the critisism doesnt stop you from sharing your work. I can understand that a shot at your creation can discourage further development.
However, most responses are an attempt at giving you ideas on new directions, to make your charatures more unique.
I think your critters are cool, but maybe to earthy for the PS setting.
As was suggested, try a biped of sorts and see how that works.
Good luck and i hope to see more creations from you soon :)

Yes, Gyerfry, I can understand why you think that, just don't let your ego rule you like it did with me. I couldn't stand with anyone critisizing what I did and it let me down. Next I was looking for compliments which didn't improve my work at all, leaving me with an emptiness like when you've just finished you candy bar and you have nothing left. I still suffer from that arrogance that comes to a new artist and I hope I will grow out of it. My tip is if you don't want people to critisize you then critisize yourself. I do that, people support me and give me ideas for new works and new knowledges(Thank god, you people). By critisizing myself I show that i'm not perfect to myself and other people, which in wayshelps myself and other people to help me improve myself.
Just hang in there, bro. Be strong, for me. Create, dream and fantasize. The world lies in front of you and waits to be discovered.

First of all you have got to understand you are good at what you do. The fact that you can even draw an animal that people can recognize puts you ahead of the game. I know many people who would kill to have your skills, as they can't even draw a stick man. :P On that same token, unfortantly as Baldur pointed out ... you need this critisim to learn and grow and become even better at what you do. Without it how will you know where you can improve? Don't take the comments to personally, remember no one really knows you ..... only the art you display. They are criticizing the art, not you as a person.
You have talent, don't forget that. :flowers:

You guys are right....
FEAR THE MIGHTY SEA SERPENT!

-
There we go, great job \\o//
Now if you could transmit it onto paper, i'm very interested in what you can make of'it.
Just remember, sea serpents are old news, show me if you can make something unique like Cherppows Baanc (http://users.tkk.fi/~vrantapu/PlaneShift/baanc.png). Make it bizarre, something unnatural. Become crazy, let your mind soar free- Draw what comes out as you go, then show me what you've made.
-
to be honest, I don't have that much of an imagination... I do apperently cause I write great stories, but I always use things that were already made up....
Heres a list of things I want on the next pet:
Can climb
Can swim
Can walk
Can hunt
Can fight
Is omnivourus
Cool Apperence
I'm gonna draw something with all these requirements
-
I dont beleive that planeshift supports slavery, and a creature of that intelligence (one that can speak a predominant language) would not be a "pet", it would be rather a dominant species. Besides I dont think English is a language of Yliakum.
-
by engish I ment whatever language is used, and the list is kina long.... /me shortens it

Hi,
I think your concepts are nice. The proportions are correct, and they do look like real creatures. Some of the colours are a bit bright, could try reducing saturation a bit. Creature's faces are important; humans identify each other, and also their pets, through facial features. Thus, if you want to create a being that looks alien, make one with strange face. :) I think this is also the case in your first and second pets: people identify them as familiar animals due to their faces.
Here's an example:
I hope you don't mind me using your pet as subject. I changed the face of your creature a bit. Also reduced the colour saturation. With the tapir nose, it's not nearly as identifyable as a canine. However, try moving your finger on top of the nose, to hide it, and you'll see the dog again. :)
Keep it up, and add something from yourself in each pet.

Aahhahaha, that's great...it kind of looks like a cross between alf, a dog, and a cut, and a ant-eater.
I give you 90% \\o//.
I took away 10% because you could still do some miniature tweeks here and there. Try doing what some guy on this thread said, give it three tails...or...not tails at all...or a FISH TAIL!Or wings! Or a giant...foot? We'll see... well actually don't tweek it THAT much. Just make it a LITTLE more unique and your there, otherwise that, it looks great. It made me laugh, and i'm still going. ;D
Edit: Woops didn't realize it wasn't the same person, but my comments still go unchanged.
-
well I really don't like he tapir nose, becuse that wasn't intended, but thanks for trying, I really need ideas for a new pet.
-
He was just trying to give an example that you need to expand your concepts :)

I know I know..... well theres spiderman, literally. http://images.8-95.com/upload/dab53603.jpg
