Hi all
this is my first message on the forum :)
I'm on linux:
- ubunty edgy (kernel 2.6.17-10)
- ati radeon 9100 (r200 chipset), with the kernel open-source driver.
I have some graphic problems from the last update(2 days ago if i'm not wrong): this is a bit hard to explayn, so i put 2 screen-shoots here.
All works ok before the update.
I already try to unistall/reinstall planeshift.
SSs:
1) bad transparency on a dwarf(other transparency are bad, but i report only this)
(http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1599/1my4.png) (http://imageshack.us)
2) bad thing, dunno what exactly: it seems to be a mix of a bad texture load, and bad repaint of the zone: this zone is a corner of a "road" in the sewers
(http://img464.imageshack.us/img464/6443/2po1.th.png) (http://img464.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2po1.png)
bye & tx :)

Same problems here (Debian Etch, Radeon 7000, open source driver provided by xorg).
Body parts of other players and NPCs are transparent, depending on the armor they wear. Additionally, my inv screen looks a bit unusual, the items have the wrong (and broken) images associated to them:
My guess is that the last update didn't run correctly. I tried and deleted version.dat to download the complete update again, but that didn't change anything.
I would like to try to install the client from scratch, is the latest one available for download via torrent yet?
Cheers,

ATI cards really suck under linux. try updating your ATI drivers?
-
Well, as this is not a gaming machine in first place I use a graphics adapter that's optimized for work (2 monitors). Nevertheless, those problems didn't occur before yesterday's update and I really can't believe that it's all of a sudden a driver problem.
-
Thanks for the replies :)
Yes, ati under linux sux a lot: atm i cannot use them with axgl, or my pc freeze every 120 seconds when play PS ::|
As said, before the last update all work perfectly.
I try many 3D games, but all works.
So, i really don't know what i can do.

I don't honestly think that ATI drivers have anything to do with it... I'm experiencing the same problems...
Before update, everything was OK.
These are just a few things from the errorlog:
<src/client/psclientdr.cpp:196 HandleDeadReckon> Got DR message for unknown entity 1258.
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_left_1.png<
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_right_1.png<
There are many many more outputs like this, but they are mostly in the same manner, so I won't copy them all.
I guess the updater messed something up with these leather armor items and other stuff.
Hope you find the solution :)
Oh, and I tried reinstalling it.
p.s.: It's fun having no torso :P
-
Those missing image warnings aren't related to this problem, I have those and I'm not suffering these effects. I updated the engine (CS) along with the last update to fix some bugs, looks like some more have crept in along with it, probably driver related. I'll look into it. Can one of you update from the open source drivers to the official ones for your card and tell me if that fixes the problem?
-
Sorry, can't change the driver - I'd lose the features I need for work. If there's anything else I can try that would be helpful, please let me know.
Is the latest client available for download (torrent, http or else)? I would like to install from scratch to make sure it's not a problem created by updating.
Cheers,

Hiya,
Finira, your inventory problem looks like broken support for the ARB_fragment_program extension. I'm guessing Retek's problem is related to broken texture compression.javascript:void(0);
These problems arose on the Mesa DRI Intel drivers a while back, and I just had a report from a user with a r300 based card that similar issues arose. Thus, I'm wondering if it's really just a Mesa 6.5.x issue.
Please try and download a patched gldrivers.xml (http://www.explorersguild.org/storage/nilaya/bugs/gldrivers.xml) and put it in data/config (back up the old one first, just in case).
Hopefully that should solve both your issues.

-
Thank you so much, Nilaya - works like a charm \\o//
- Finira bounces happily -
-
Nilaya, is that the fix put in CS a few weeks ago? I'll upload that to the updater if so.
-
No, it's definitely not...
I jumped the gun and disabled texture compression and AFP for all Mesa 6.5.x based drivers. Basically anything modern and open source. This may be way too paranoid and harsh, but it does seem safe. I'm not truly sure how widespread the problem is...but it seems to affect at least some intel and some ATI cards.
Also, I disabled multitexturing for text with Mesa 6.5.2 on the Intel DRI drivers, because that's broken as well (6.5.1 worked fine though). May affect other cards but I don't have any reports of that yet, as it's too new.
Feel free to include it though, if you like...
-
Anyone found the solution yet?
I installed the new update, but still no luck. I still get boath of the symphtoms.
Did it work for everybody else? :detective:
-
Noldir, did you try what I said in my above instructions (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26979.msg305099#msg305099)?
-
Yes I did and it had no effect.
-
EDIT:
- sorry, but i solve the "speed" problem bu my self: it was a wrong setting in xorg.conf . "man radeon" will light your mind
- i can report one graphic issue about transparency: for exaple, i can see the square(with or light-azure) used for the erbs on the grounp ^^ it should be transparency, but i can see it. On windows all works ok.
cya :)

Hi :)
Sorry if i write only now..
[See above] Tx for the solution: it seem to rosolve some problems, but few minor graphics problems still are.
[SOLVED] However the worst thing now, it's that the game "speed" slow down (very down) for about 4/5 seconds, and every 10/15 seconds.. the game of course, is unplayable.

Hello,
I just wanted to say I got the same problem here and replacing the gldriver.xml reduced the speed dramatically (but fixes the graphic-bug)
Building the client myself has fixed the problem.
My PC specs can be found in the sticky thread "Installer Feedback": http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=19377.msg305525#msg305525 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=19377.msg305525#msg305525)
-
I need to say that I am experiencing graphic problems as well. I am using Ubuntu Edgy Eft, and not only are the graphics "broken" but the game in incredibly slow.
-
Same problem here, with Debian testing
I've just run the updater (only problem during update : "up" file)...
-
I've just downladed the official driver from http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux) and performed the default installation of it... the invisible textures are now visible, but others that where visible are not !
I guess I have to study more carrefully the configuration of the driver
-
I have all these issues, I'm runnig ubuntu edgy eft on a laptop, binary install..... Any ideas? I couldn't download the XL file and this is REALLY getting to me.
-
Same here.. :(
-
I am running into some of these issues with .18 as well, under ubuntu dapper drake. It is only for specific items, however. For example if my (Ylian male) character is wearing his chainmail torso armor, that is not rendered properly, it is transparent (only not quite). If he takes it off, then the torso is rendered correctly. Other things that don't render properly are trees, the moving "target" graphic, and many of the item icons in the inventory. All of this was fine before the upgrade. I hope this might give someone an idea on what might be wrong.
-
Looking at the inventory items, I notice that some items other problems, such as the boots that look like a potion, as does the torso armour that invisible when worn and looks like a potion when dropped. I wonder if there is an incorrect offset into an image texture file, perhaps?
-
It's all about Texture-Compression, which doesn't work correctly with the in-kernel-DRI-stuff.
There's this line in data/config/gldrivers.xml:
<regexp string="renderer" pattern="^Mesa DRI Radeon 2002" />Replace it with
<regexp string="renderer" pattern="Mesa" />has fixed it on two of my machines.
-
That worked. Thanks so much, Jannis!
-
I am sorry to say it, but this is a problem that has evolved beyond an ATI/Intel problem or even one that involves MESA at all. i am running an NVidia Geforce 6600 LE with current drivers and while I don't have the problems with missing torso or bad armor graphics, I do have that problem with looking around corners. In fact, most of the doors on the outer perimeter of both towns aren't there. I just get a strange looking hole or sometimes you can see through it clearly, but it just looks like the land drops off into blue nothing a few paces out. I can't actually walk through, thank god. With that being said, I have been running it on windows instead with no problems on the same computer, so it's not that big of a problem for me, but I figured you would want to know about a similar problem on a graphics card with absolutely no similarities.
-
krazymonkeys: Yes, you've got another problem here. But I don't think it's a whole-MESA-problem
-
I've got even funnier problems
Can't read any text
here are some screenshots
(http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/6631/mainxb9.th.jpg) (http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mainxb9.jpg)(http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9776/setupfq8.th.jpg) (http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=setupfq8.jpg)
Did anyone have the same?
I'm running Ubuntu Feisty
on intel945g
Thanks in advance
-
Do you by chance have a unicode font set to be used for all apps? I don't know if PS supports it or not but it looks to be a font problem to me. Just a guess.
-
I have the exact same problem as you thoice, running Ubuntu Feisty with a Radeon 9200SE.
Edit: I'm using the open source ATI drivers, and in case it matters, the Gnome window manager.
-
I saved the verbose output of ./psclient, ./pssetup and ./updater in three different .txt's that I've linked at the bottom of this post. I'm sorry for the crappy hosting, I don't have a reliable web host and couldn't find any way to attach files to this board. The problem I have that the fonts in-game are unreadable, they look like the screens thoice linked to. As I said I'm running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (v. 7.04) with kernel 2.6.20-12-generic, it's the 32bit version and I'm running it on an AMD Athlon64. The graphics card is a Radeon 9200SE using open source ATI drivers. Can anyone help me out, cause I'm stumped?

updater output (http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0161d/)
-
I have the exact same problem as thoice and Boogieboi on a Raden 9600XT and Ubuntu Edgy Eft.
If it is indeed a font problem, are there fonts that we need to install or uninstall?
-
When I run pslient, here is what is returned in terminal:

I have tried all kinds of things to get this font problem fixed. I tried downloading all the fonts I could find for Ubuntu, I tried changing the default application font from "Sans" to other things. I don't really understand this problem. I have a few games on this PC and none of them have reacted quite like this.
Hopefully there is an answer somewhere... ???

Hiya,
Finira, your inventory problem looks like broken support for the ARB_fragment_program extension. I'm guessing Retek's problem is related to broken texture compression.
These problems arose on the Mesa DRI Intel drivers a while back, and I just had a report from a user with a r300 based card that similar issues arose. Thus, I'm wondering if it's really just a Mesa 6.5.x issue.
Please try and download a patched gldrivers.xml (http://explorers.ps-mc.com/~nilaya/stuff/gldrivers.xml) and put it in data/config (back up the old one first, just in case).
Hopefully that should solve both your issues.
--Nilaya
your link is broken, i can't find the file I am looking for. i also have those type of problems.
-
Still having the font problem, I tried the gldrivers.xml but it didn't seem to have any effect. Oh well... Maybe it's just not meant to be???

My output is the same as eaglesfan printed, I'm using an Intel 950GMA chipset. Iledoca Peire or eaglesfan you have the gldrivers.xml that was patched? The link isn't working.
-
For those who are looking for Nilaya's gldrivers.xml patch - t's here (http://ihttp://www.explorersguild.org/storage/nilaya/stuff/gldrivers.xml).
I have more serious problems with the graphic card - it seems the open souce radeon dri drivers (r300) crash my system - I get that line with GART not being set correctly and then after a while the whole system freezes ...so if anyone has any idea, I'd be more then happy to know.
-
Thought I'd just revisit this old thread. If anyone is having the font issue, please try reading this: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=28316.0 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=28316.0). Also, the gldrivers.xml file is also located here: http://vaalnor.mine.nu/vaalnor/videoglitch/gldrivers.xml (http://vaalnor.mine.nu/vaalnor/videoglitch/gldrivers.xml).
