Graphic problems
« on: December 28, 2006, 07:27:45 pm »
Hi all
this is my first message on the forum :)

I'm on linux:
- ubunty edgy (kernel 2.6.17-10)
- ati radeon 9100 (r200 chipset), with the kernel open-source driver.

I have some graphic problems from the last update(2 days ago if i'm not wrong): this is a bit hard to explayn, so i put 2 screen-shoots here.
All works ok before the update.
I already try to unistall/reinstall planeshift.

SSs:
1) bad transparency on a dwarf(other transparency are bad, but i report only this)

2) bad thing, dunno what exactly: it seems to be  a mix of a bad texture load, and bad repaint of the zone: this zone is a corner of a "road" in the sewers

bye & tx :)

Same problems here (Debian Etch, Radeon 7000, open source driver provided by xorg).

Body parts of other players and NPCs are transparent, depending on the armor they wear. Additionally, my inv screen looks a bit unusual, the items have the wrong (and broken) images associated to them:

My guess is that the last update didn't run correctly. I tried and deleted version.dat to download the complete update again, but that didn't change anything.

I would like to try to install the client from scratch, is the latest one available for download via torrent yet?

Cheers,

ATI cards really suck under linux. try updating your ATI drivers?

Well, as this is not a gaming machine in first place I use a graphics adapter that's optimized for work (2 monitors). Nevertheless, those problems didn't occur before yesterday's update and I really can't believe that it's all of a sudden a driver problem.

I don't honestly think that ATI drivers have anything to do with it... I'm experiencing the same problems...
Before update, everything was OK.

These are just a few things from the errorlog:

<src/client/psclientdr.cpp:196 HandleDeadReckon> Got DR message for unknown entity 1258.
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_left_1.png<
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_right_1.png<

There are many many more outputs like this, but they are mostly in the same manner, so I won't copy them all.

I guess the updater messed something up with these leather armor items and other stuff.
Hope you find the solution :)

Oh, and I tried reinstalling it.

p.s.: It's fun having no torso :P

Those missing image warnings aren't related to this problem, I have those and I'm not suffering these effects. I updated the engine (CS) along with the last update to fix some bugs, looks like some more have crept in along with it, probably driver related. I'll look into it. Can one of you update from the open source drivers to the official ones for your card and tell me if that fixes the problem?

Sorry, can't change the driver - I'd lose the features I need for work. If there's anything else I can try that would be helpful, please let me know.

Is the latest client available for download (torrent, http or else)? I would like to install from scratch to make sure it's not a problem created by updating.

Cheers,

Hiya,

Finira, your inventory problem looks like broken support for the ARB_fragment_program extension.  I'm guessing Retek's problem is related to broken texture compression.javascript:void(0);

These problems arose on the Mesa DRI Intel drivers a while back, and I just had a report from a user with a r300 based card that similar issues arose.  Thus, I'm wondering if it's really just a Mesa 6.5.x issue.

Please try and download a patched gldrivers.xml and put it in data/config (back up the old one first, just in case).

Hopefully that should solve both your issues.

Nilaya, is that the fix put in CS a few weeks ago? I'll upload that to the updater if so.

No, it's definitely not...

I jumped the gun and disabled texture compression and AFP for all Mesa 6.5.x based drivers. Basically anything modern and open source.  This may be way too paranoid and harsh, but it does seem safe.  I'm not truly sure how widespread the problem is...but it seems to affect at least some intel and some ATI cards.

Also, I disabled multitexturing for text with Mesa 6.5.2 on the Intel DRI drivers, because that's broken as well (6.5.1 worked fine though).  May affect other cards but I don't have any reports of that yet, as it's too new.

Feel free to include it though, if you like...
