[modified again...]
Former History
Long ago there was a city called Ragon hidden in the mountains. It was the home of 8 guardians known as the Unholy Guardians. Each one a master of the Unholy Light. They protected the city till they became engaged in a war agaisnt "shadows." During this war the city was destroyed and all but 3 guardians perished. Now these guardians will attempt to rise again to recreate what has been lost for so long.
Ranking
Apprentice- Someone training to take on a specific job in the guild.
Mage- A beginner or master in the Mage Style of the Unholy Arts
Blaksmith- A beginner or master in the Blacksmith Style of the Unholy arts
Swordsman- A beginner or master in the Swordsman Style of the Unholy arts
Mentor- A teacher of students in or out of the guild.
Adept Guard- Protecter of the guild and its secrets. Hunter of Rogue Guardians.
Researchers- Members who commit their-selves to the discovery of new unholy arts as well as those who seperate the regular moves from the sacred and forrbidden arts.
Guardian Council- Overseers of the guild and its affairs. Together they have the same power as the grand master over the guild and comand the Adept Guard.
Grand Master- The guild leader and the head mentor. Also the keeper of all the guilds secrets as well as its Sacred Arts.
What is Unholy Light?
Unholy Light is an extreme form of mental energy. Its name comes from its history of usage within the city of Ragon and while it is thought of as magic in its previous history more relates to other mental energies like ESP, mind control, and telekinesis.
What are the Styles?
Through the most stern of disciplines, the members of the Unholy Guardians learn how to focus their power for their life's sake. And with this concentrated power, and through special rites teached onto them, they are able to unleash an energy, a power to form the work we call 'Unholy Arts. The mage, blacksmith, and swordsman styles are the 3 main styles of the Unholy arts from which all of the moves[taught and sacred] are founded. The mage stlye focuses on long rage attacks, the blacksmith on making energy weapons that disappear after a short amount of time, and the swordsman which focues on empowering the sword or prefered weapon.
Purposes
Revival of Ragon- To rebuild the city lost in war long ago
Preservation of the Unholy Arts- To make sure that the arts and their secrets survive. [has to do with the fact they were almost lost during the war]
Teaching of the Arts- To teach possible future masters and make sure they are all united under one rule. This is also our main purpose. Whether or not you join the guild does not exclude you from learning the Unholy Arts.
Protection- To protect those under the Unholy Guardians or allied with us. It is on a personal bases whether one wants to protect the people of Hydlaa, Oja, etc. However unless your job is otherwise protecting your fellow guild members is a must.
Sacred/Forbidden Arts- To make sure the sacred arts stay hidden even if one has to kill their own guild member to do so. Also to keep the forbidden arts from falling into the wrong hands
Join Us!
We are currently looking for students who would be intrested in learning the style and maybe master it. We have no problem teaching people outside the guild but what you can learn is limited. Anyone can be accepted at the student level it is just progressing to the next that is a challenge.[for more information on any of the guild concepts feel free to contact me in the threads or ingame as Xeonart or contact the Guildmaster Hasseo.]

Just a little criticizm on the rankings...
If you're named "The Unholy Guardians" then why do you have the rank "Unholy Guard?"
What's that make everyone else in the guild who isn't that rank? They're in the Unholy Guardians, but they're not an Unholy Guard?
-
we are all unholy guardians yes. But there is a certain part of it known as the "guard". The reason for this is that its their specific job to guard. However they "guard" the intrest of the guild. Others who guard would be guarding people in general. The Unholy Guard is more like the protectors of the guild. Almost like the "guardians" for the guardians. However if you have a suggestion for a better name it would be welcome
-
Adept Guard
-
yeah that might sound better
Goal:
The main goal and the reason they were recreated [in the rp] is to destroy an evil entity that was released. Each of the guardians feel partly at fault for the release of the entity and for that reason they have once again formed the guard.
Developing Goals: These are the goals that will develop as the guild starts to progress. Because the Guardians were truely only revived for one reason these goals will not be immediately put into effect until they [rp] decide to continue on and truely recreate their group. Other goals will develop besides these but these are the main ones.
Revival of Ragon- One of these goals will be to rebuild the city of Ragon. Before this can ever happen though they will have to become a powerful enough guild to defend it.
Protection of the people- In the words of the man who taught the original guardians, "A guardian is someone who lives only to protect. By becoming a guardian your life is lived to your city and to your people. If you decide to follow me you will represent the roof and walls of this city protecting it with your lives." To this the guardians [except rogues] will hold true. They will live to protect.
Secrets of the Unholy Light- To make sure that the unholy light is never lost but its secrets are never found. They want to make sure the powers of the unholy light are reserved and that its teqniques will pass from guardian to guardian. However they do not want these secrets to be known throughout the world. While they protect the people they will kill those who threaten the secrets of the Unholy Light to protect it as well.

Now, the person named Hasseo, really needs to get their name changed. I know where they got it from.
Anyway, after reading your history, how can a peaceful, bright place, be called unholy?
-

But this one have only one "S", so I guess it's probably okay.

Now, the person named Hasseo, really needs to get their name changed. I know where they got it from.
Yeah I know. I told him the same thing but he didnt listen to me :sweatdrop:
Anyway, after reading your history, how can a peaceful, bright place, be called unholy?
Thats a question asked alot actually. The reason for the "unholy" is because of the history of the city. See the man that discovered the Unholy Light tried to teach it to many people after the city was built. Before it was not called unholy light. However the power did not "mix" well with many of the people. The original master found soon that this energy could twist those that were weak-minded. Because this energy is mental [full properties will be explained later] those who can not control it usually go crazy[I will also get deeper into that when Im explaining the properties]. For this the "magic" was called Unholy Light. It was good and evil in the eyes of the people. Because of it their city was created but many also went mad, lost their lives, etc trying to control it. Also the color of this energy is gray which lead the people to believe that it was a combination of light and darkness [refering to "shades of gray" if you get what I mean]. It isnt but thats what they 1st thought.
-
Alright, just wondering. The name seemed contradictory to your purpose. =P
-
I get what your saying. Makes more sense if you understand Unholy light as a whole. But its tricky writting about it because some parts of its history and potential are some of the secrets that the guild protects.
[more guild specifics] As i mentioned before there are a lot of different things that the guild will do with students and such of the guild.
One of the main things is holding in guild tournaments to test the skill of its members [rp]. The members will be put agaisnt each other and fight showing the skills they developed while being watched by other members of the guild. This will also help decide whether one should become apart of certain levels of the guild [like the guard]. These tournaments will only be for students and members at the mage/blacksmith/swordsman levels. Students will participate in tournaments seperate from those of those 3 levels.
Also each level has significance in the guild. I did not want the guild to be the tradtional "move up levels to gain more guild power." Instead each level has specific powers. For example those 3 levels are special because those are where a lot of hands on teaching is done between guild members. Mentors only watch and evalutate tournaments for things like skill and such[as well as god rp] but do not teach those in the mage, blacksmith, and swordsman levels. Instead they focus on teaching students [as mentioned before] while those in those 3 levels teach each other. You can switch between the levels to learn all 3 styles and only those who know all 3 styles can become a mentor or part of the Guard. Or you can stay in those 3 levels and continue to learn and train and participate in tournaments. By doing so you can even "master" one of those styles of combats. By doing so you can become elligble to learn on the the "secret techniques" of Unholy light.
Secret Techniques are one of the various types of secrets hidden by the guild. These techniques are more powerful and dangerous moves that display the true force of the Unholy Light. These techniques are the main reason for rogue guardians. Rogue guardians wish only to take steal these techniques then escape the guild using the moves for their own gain or "selling" the information and secrets to enemies or any other who might pay. Being a rogue guardian is one of the most complex roles of the guild and where there is the most improvisation but strictest ooc rules. An example of a rogue guardian even though he leads the guild atm is Duraza. He uses the Unholy Light for his own purposes and cares not of the guild. In truth the Rogue Guardian's existence in the guild is ooc. Once you become a rogue you can never return to the guard. However the reason for still being in the guild is for the purpose that you are being "tracked." It is not easy to escape the guard and those under the position of Rogue Guardian are being hunted down and tracked by the Unholy Guard of the guild. However it is possible to escape this "tracking." If you are undetected for a long enough time then you can leave the guild but it still doesnt mean you are free of its wrath. [also it doesnt mean you can just stop logging in for a month then leave or log in for a minute a day. You have to give us a chance to detect you. Not saying you have to make it easy though.]
-
You can make weapons just... appear? That's a little bit weird. A bunch of charlatans, I say!
-
that missing steel when someone crafts a dagger has to go somewhere....... :whistling:
but yeah, a little ::| reaction going on here
-
no sorry just a misunderstanding. I think your refering to the "blacksmith" level right?
Well they dont make actual weapons of steel and such. When I was thinking of it I was thinking of more of a modification of the swordsman level. In the swordsman level you empower your blade with energy. So I thought why not be able to hold the energy in the shape of a weapon. It would almost be the same as being mage shooting out energy only the blacksmith's are more "creative" and shape the energy to take the looks of a weapon. Is it an actual weapon? No just energy that looks like a weapon.
-
So I thought why not be able to hold the energy in the shape of a weapon.
If we had these thing, we wouldn't need them.
More simlpy:
You are flying in the world of fantasy without thinking about the consequences.

Could you expand on what you mean by that? I belive you mean to say that I am going "beyond" the limits of the game but don't want to comment unless I have your meaning correct.
-

I mean you are going beyond logic. lordraleigh made a small hint too.
-
yeah I figured thats what you meant. I just didnt want to go on talking about something and realize I wasnt answering what you said.
When I made the Unholy Light teqnique I based it on the principles of the schools of Lah'ar and Esteria. The abilities of the "blacksmith" are mainly based on those prinicples of Esteria that you can read about ingame. It mentions things like empowering weapons, creating fire shields, etc. All I really did was make a modifacation of what it already said to be true. It mentioned "fire shields" so why not a weapon that would follow that same basic prinicple. Just not nessicarrily fire. I know that these things are not yet implemented in the game but they would be "possible." When we rp we have to act as if the game is completed, bugless, etc. So why should I not take full advantage of what the game says is possible regardless of whether you can see it or not.
I mean you are going beyond logic.
Well that depends on what you mean. When I think of what you mean by "logic" I think of the logic of the real world. Yes in our actual lives we can not simply make blades of energy and attack people. However this is a "fantasty" game. It has its own set of history and rules that would be "logical" to the characters we play. So if you think of yourself as your character it would be logical. Would it nessicarrily be easy to understand? No but possible? Yes.
-
So those schools are 'unholy?'
-
No not at all. The schools are what they are. The reason for the Unholy Light is because that is the name of the energy. All I take from the schools are teqniques. Give yourself a second to think about it. A city is built by people who have never seen Oja or Hydlaa. Do they nesicarrily name everything or know everything the same as we from Hydlaa do? No. Its possible to believe that while of course the city would know of people like Laanx and Talad they might not be familuar to all that we are. Even if you are born in hydlaa can you not rp that your character knows nothing of the schools of Lah'ar and such? So its perfectly probable that when the people of the city started using these teqnques they wanted to name them. What would they name them? Something based on how they have seen the powers used.
However I am not saying this means all Unholy Light is is another word for Lah'ar or Esteria. Unholy Light is energy. Just how some people rp to "shoot mana" or something along those lines. Unholy Light is in truth mental energy, kind of like what is described in Lah'ar. The difference? It is used in different ways only taking one or 2 of the teqniques mentioned in Lah'ar [like mind control]. If this still does not come clear to you or seems kind of "out there" I would be happy to explain and break down what Unholy Light is and everything. I think that will help those that are having problems understand what I am saying.
-
I find it hard enough to understand how those schools work. There is no explaination save a few lines. It makes sense if you work on the basis that the schools make sense and pretend they don't need explanation.
-
It has its own set of history and rules that would be "logical" to the characters we play.
it is rather common principle in fantasy world that if you want to control power in some way, it is eighter temporary (one battle at most or less) or it need physical item capable of keeping the energy. <----- This is even valid for real world
You can never have the good sides of both as one and it is what you are trying to do. If I were you, i wouldn't base my ideas too much about the tiny amount of setting you find somewhere. Because it may be eighter old and not valid anymore after some thoughts or valid, but wrongly understood. And adding to this, when you are modificating this, you will most likely come with something what lacks logic.
It has its own set of history and rules that would be "logical" to the characters we play.
This logic.
Logic is always the same. While today we know more facts to base on, much more things are logical to us, than once. But in PS world, where people think like 500 years ago, but will magic, what is logical to us, wouldn't be always logical to them. Like magic is logical to mages, but none in RL.
If we knew everything, the logic would lead us always to truth absolute, but since there is infinite amount of secrets ahead of us, we will never be always right.
So no, you won't forge weapon of pure energy, which last forever, like normal weapons.
A city is built by people who have never seen Oja or Hydlaa. Do they nesicarrily name everything or know everything the same as we from Hydlaa do? No.
you need to read the setting and seriously think about it before you start making a guild. Yliakum is too small for people to never hear about Hydlaa or Ojaveda. Maybe not be there, but everybody in Yliakum speak in similiar manner.
Its possible to believe that while of course the city would know of people like Laanx and Talad they might not be familuar to all that we are.
Priests of Laanx and Talad would make sure everyone knows about their gods. Agaian, Yliakum is too small.
-
sorry but I still think you misunderstand what I say in some points.
First I NEVER said the weapons last as long as real ones. On the contray if you read what I said correctly I said it took immense amounts of energy to do it and one could not wield it for long for it would dissappear.
Second I did not say that the actual city was buiilt by people who had never seen Hydlaa or Oja. I used that as an example. If you were to read the story carefully again you would notice I mentioned while the city was hidden many travelers did find and go through it.
Third once again you fail to read what I say CAREFULLY. I said "Its possible to believe that while of course the city would know of people like Laanx and Talad they might not be familuar to all that we are." I never said in fact that they did not but only mentioned that they did
If I failed to answer any of what you said then dont hesitate to ask.
I find it hard enough to understand how those schools work. There is no explaination save a few lines. It makes sense if you work on the basis that the schools make sense and pretend they don't need explanation.
I also agree that there is little said about the schools as a whole. Id have to belive that it is mainly the "blacksmith" level that you are concerned about. It is mostly based on interpretation yes. I think when it comes to that level and how it relates with the schools the best thing to do would be for me to ask if I might be interpreting it in the wrong way or whether I may be taking it too far.
-
I don't find the structure (just the ranks in this case) anything original. The guild itself seems a pretty regular help everyone/against everyone guild.
-
Depends on how you look at it. The structure might not be "original" but I think that this particular guild opens room to a lot of different rps. Especially with the whole concept of the rogue guardian. However the bad side to the guild is that without an appropriate amount of numbers much of the intresting things that could be done would not work as well.
The guild itself seems a pretty regular help everyone/against everyone guild.
The actual guild goals are still "under construction" because of 2 reasons. I agree it does sound plain and wouldnt be very intresting. But remember to consider the fact that while those goals are "implied" they may not be true. This guild truely is only around to kill on person and once that is done is supposed to disband [refer to the goals mentioned] beacuse its members don't like its leader. However what truely happens depends on what happens in the rp mentioned. So the second reason those goals are not necessarily true is because all depends on the direction of the rp. The main reason I made the thread was to try and put some of the ideas out and see which ones work best and which didn't.
-

Thats good to hear. When you say you could forge these weapons like normal smiths, one would think the opposite. I think you said something similiar to this.
Sorry i did not read your story, but only further posts and commented on them. Well good luck, i'm too tired now. I hope your reasoning is right even if you call things in weird way. Like unholy.
I said "Its possible to believe that while of course the city they might not be familuar to all that we are."
I think this sentence is without sense. :-)

yeah for some reason I cant even think of what I was trying to say :sweatdrop:

Its ok. Im pretty sure its not always the easiest thing to read the whole post and take up time trying to make sure you understand it. Yeah I know I name a lot of things weird but the reason behind the naming makes it all make sense.
-
You include very little information on what the guild is supposed to do. I don't understand why it is here for. I want to know it by reading the Topic thread alone, not by scrolling down and searching for explanations. I also want a place where I can see it. It shouldn't be included in the Ranks or History. If you can't provide easy access to information, you'll hardly convince people to actually understand what you mean.
"Unholy" also seems something very strange in this setting. Is it against Talad and Laanx? You have to consider that everything holy on PS should belong to these two, since they were the ones who walked around doing glyphs and special places.
And if I were you, I'd avoid naming too many things. You should use concepts that people know, or risk misunderstandings. Unless you actually explain your naming through a logical line of thought.
Remember guilds should be objective towards Planeshift's Setting.
-

When I say Unholy I mean more of the definition of "sinful" or "wicked". Not meaning something agaisnt the "holy" powers like Talad and Laanx. Sorry for the confusion I think I owe you a clear explanation of that concept. The reason for the odd way things are named in reference to things being "unholy" is because of the history of the people of the city. See when they first started trying to learn how to use this "power"[refering to unholy light] they got various results. This "power" was good because it helped create their city and those who mastered its powers became the guardians of the city. This power was the only way for the city to protect itself. However at the same time it was a very "wicked" and "sinful" power. It could change the minds of others and twist them. Those who could not control it many times went mad. Others who could control it many times started to lust for more power. To get get stronger some would even twist the minds of family or friends. So the name of this "power" became unholy light [or if you think about it "wicked" light]. It brought them good and evil. However what these people called unholy light can be known to us as just another form of mental energy [much like esp, mind control, etc.] All Unholy light truely is is mental energy and those who are Unholy Guardians have mastered the energy of the mind. This also intern explains the reason it was "unholy". It could twist the minds of others because it was "mental" energy. Hope that more clearly explains it. Someone else was supposed to write up an explanation of what Unholy Light was but Im guessing they did not get to.

Sorry about that as well. I realize this thread isnt very well organized and Ill make sure to fix that. Ill make sure to either modify the 1st post with a COMPLETE explanation of the guild in total or just make a new thread. Whichever would be better.
-
Unholy means exactly the opposite of holy which means religious.
-
Editing this thread would be the best idea. You don't need to be extensive. If you have somewhere else where we can find better information, just link it in the post.
-
Unholy means exactly the opposite of holy which means religious.
I just went from a definition I found. Yeah I know when you think of "unholy" your right it means "not holy." However of the definitions of "holy" you can find things besides "god-fearing" or "religious." Things like "sinless" and "pure." Im using a less used definition for unholy from the looks of it. But what I mean by saying it is to say "sinful." While "sin" also usually has religious meaning it can also just mean "evil" or "wrong doing." Im not trying to use the religious meanings of the words.

Ok Ill make sure to edit the 1st post. I dont have another place where the information can be found [no website] but Ill make sure to just give a brief overview of everything. Gonna be hard for me...I like to explain things ;D
edit:
Modified the 1st post. Read and tell me what you think or if its still in need of adjustments. I also shortened it for easier reading.

yeah for some reason I cant even think of what I was trying to say :sweatdrop:
XD In such occurance, if i was on your place, i would check if what is quoted is really what i wrote ;P
Basically, you made some text to have red background. Something i don't read because it is unreadable ;) and so the message made no sense. Just keep in mind people don't have to use the same skin as you are.
-
opps sorry about that. Thats what the sencence did say.
"Its possible to believe that while of course the city would know of people like Laanx and Talad they might not be familuar to all that we are." I never said in fact that they did not but only mentioned that they did.
Also I modified the first post on the guild. If you could read it and comment. It really helps to know if there is something there that needs fixing. Hopefully theres not though ;D

Good job Duraza, proud of ya.
Coneitic would have snaked his way in there somewhere.
=)

The Promotional Thread is alot better now!
But now I have opinions for the guild itself:- The name "Unholy" doesn't seem to fit;
- Unholy Arts: I think we need something more here. Something like "through the most stern of disciplines, the members of the Unholy Guardians learn how to focus their power for their life's sake. And with this concentrated power, and through special rites teached onto them, they are able to unleash an energy, a power to form the work we call 'Unholy Arts.'" If you had something of this nature you'll add more taste to those "styles" since we'll know there's actually something behind it, not just secretness and magic.
- "Revival of Ragon" - Can't say that's an original objective: check the Survivors of Vaern and the Community of Vaalnor.
- I wouldn't use the "shadows" as my enemies. Maybe it would be more interesting if this Ragon was formed within the Labyrinths, as a haven to those who would wander in those places. That way we would understand why it required such guardians, and how it was destryoed by the throngs of monsters there;
- As far as the promotional thread itself is concerned, I'd distinguish the ranks, and maybe make the most important titles size=3. Just so it looks prettier to the eyes.
How long ago are we talking? Characters have lifespans, they don't live on for ever.
-
The Promotional Thread is alot better now!
Well at least its better
- "Revival of Ragon" - Can't say that's an original objective: check the Survivors of Vaern and the Community of Vaalnor.
I know its not necessarily "original" but it is something they would want. After their city was destroyed because they could not guard it properly its just something that makes sense. There are other ways to look at it but remember this goal would only be put in effect if they ever thought they would have the "strength" to protect the city. If not the would never rebuild it.
- I wouldn't use the "shadows" as my enemies. Maybe it would be more interesting if this Ragon was formed within the Labyrinths, as a haven to those who would wander in those places. That way we would understand why it required such guardians, and how it was destryoed by the throngs of monsters there;
The reason why the enemy was called "the shadows" was because it was unclear who attacked. It was a pitch black and hard to see. The day the city fell no one could see. All most of the people saw were creatures attacking them in the darkness and "shadow." Furthermore only 3 survived mainly because they were captured by the leader of the attackers and drugged. The reason for their capture still remains unclear to them because the leader is long dead and they never saw the force he attacked with.
- As far as the promotional thread itself is concerned, I'd distinguish the ranks, and maybe make the most important titles size=3. Just so it looks prettier to the eyes.
Ok Ill make sure to make some things more clear. Just change font sizes and like underline ranking names or something along those lines right?

Not extremely long ago. The city was built long before the guardians actually rose to power. At first the one master of the Unholy Light ruled the city. He tried to teach the people and 8 of them mastered it before his death. They were all young (around 17) when they did master it and defended the city for about 8 years (they werent sure and mainly for yearly time relyed on those who passed through the city) before it was destroyed.
- The name "Unholy" doesn't seem to fit;
One of the main reasons I rather not change the name is because "unholy light" has been rped ingame before. I know that it wouldnt be hard to just rename it, or even rp a reason, but at the same time I like the fact that it doesnt seem to fit with you. It makes it seem like these people thought their own way. Just my opinion though.

I must say I do like how you worded that. Ill make sure to edit the guild and add something along those lines(or maybe that with your permission :innocent:)
Good job Duraza, proud of ya.
Coneitic would have snaked his way in there somewhere.

Thanks mate :)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked my wording there! You're free to use it if you like.
Seems like most things were answered. Be sure to have this useful information explicit somewhere people can access easily. We don't want to tire people with forum scrolling. We must think of the lazy.

There I think Ive fixed the rest of the thread....currently working on getting a free website to post there inorder to make links for more information on the topics of the guild.

1st sorry for the double post. Was a while since I last posted so I hope it doesn't matter much. There were some changes made to the guild in terms of structure and purpose. First the removal of the Student rank to be replaced by the Apprentince rank. Both are mainly the same the only difference being that Apprentince's join the guild because they want a spefic job. The second rank change was the Rogue Guardian to Researcher. The rogue guardian's finnally "escaped" the guild and so have been replaced by a rank of Researchers who look in developing new unholy arts. As for purpose the main focus of the guild is now towards teaching making it a School. The school is open to all people whether in the guild or not. However those who do not work for the school will always be "students." Those who do work for the school (by joining the guild) can get a specific job like mentor, guard member, etc. Last I want to say that the offical guild master is Hasseo and the assistant guild master is Xeonart (me). Currently working on getting a website and fourms as well.
