Title: Getting Error
Post by: Vanraa on March 08, 2007, 09:57:27 pm
I made my character, when I try to log into the game after selecting my character I get an error message.

Something unexpected happened In PlaneShift Crystal Blue
Details: Expetion_Access_Denied (then some numbers follow it)

Then after that one another one comes up that says failed to create dump file (etc... location of my PS file)

Cant be my graphics I have 512 ram 69 GB on hds with a cable connection never ran updater.
I have DX 9.0c
I am starting to feel very insubordinate.

Knowing those errors numbers would help us out a lot. When you are reporting problems, make sure to give us as much information as possible - we can't figure it all out ourselves :]

Fails to create a dump every time? If you do manage to save one, follow the instructions in this thread (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=27639.0) to let a developer take a look at it .

In the meantime, try reinstalling the game - it can take care of some "glitches" of this type, as long as you make sure to completely uninstall first.

You may also want to post your video card :]

Yes, it says failed to save dump file every time. My graphics are stock from a tower not a desktop.
Ill post it anyways.

How can he fix it if he mails you his graphics card? incase any one else wants to do this you can send them all to me :P

you could try creating a new character of a different race and seeing if it is a bug in the location you are spawning.

An integrated chipset may not be enough to play PlaneShift - they usually fall below the minimum requirements. Can you see how much memory is allocated to graphics? Type dxdiag into the Run command and take a look at the Display tab. If it's less than 64MB, you're going to have a difficult time playing the game, and probably installing it too.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022768.htm

Download the latest drivers from there.

Also, does anyone know if this chipset is OpenGL compliant?

[EDIT]

If he is using only 512 RAM as system memory it may be a low amount allocated to the chipset :)

512mb

Idoru: It supports graphics standards DirectX 9.0C as well as OpenGL 1.5. Updating the driver is probably the last suggestion we can make; remember it's onboard video so you can't let your expectations get too high with respect to 3D gaming.

I play Everquest 2 just fine, this game has way lower specs than EQ2, i dont see the problem.  I'll try updating the driver.

cool, Karyuu, thats that problem out of the way thn :)

Couldnt agree more with you Karyuu, I had an interesting experience with the current MB I have, but thats for a different thread :)

This game is different from EQ2. thats pretty much it, things programmed and designed in different ways can just screw up on different systems no matter what they have run in the past :)

[EDIT]

Annoyed I had to remove the noses from my smilies lol, are us three the only ones on this forum? looks that way from the 10 most recent posts lol

Maybe you have a "writing right" problem in planeshift directory?
It is quite hard to understand what is your problem, unfortunately, without looking at the dump.
However, it doesn't look at first sight like a graphic card problem - even though, you never know!

Could you post the last lines from errorlog.txt?
Which area where you in?
Have you tried to reduce the font size in Pssetup at least to 50%?

since the problem appears to be solved (Why doesn't anyone add "[solved]" at the end of the topic when thier problem is solved?)

This suggestion may be moot, but did anyone ask if he had "Load All Maps" ticked and suggest not doing so???

Hmm, yeah why don't I put solved on here?  Well, just because you assume the problem is solved.  I'll post it as being solved.  Even though me the one with the problem is still having the problem.

Hmmm I C... well after reading through the posts i came to this...

cool, Karyuu, thats that problem out of the way thn :)

Couldnt agree more with you Karyuu, I had an interesting experience with the current MB I have, but thats for a different thread :)

and thought that it was from the original poster, my bad  :-[...

as your problem ISN'T solved try the following one by one so we know the actual fix;

Ensure you are NOT running Windows Vista (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21500.0)

Check your game setup to ensure you do not have either of the [Keep All Maps Loaded] and [Load All Maps] options ticked?

Check to make sure your gfx card is OpenGL compliant, most intel chips are not real good with this...  EQ and EQ2 both use DX NOT Open GL...
(IMO this is because intell seem to think that there is nothing other than microsoft and therefore focus on the wintel market)

Remove your graphix card drivers, turn off the computer and restart it then re-install the drivers and re-boot and then try the game again...

Also you have given very minimal information for us all to work with... whenever posting to a forum it is good to include in your post...

OS VERSION:
(in the case of windows) Service Pack #:
CPU:

see below for a hypothetical example (which is by no means a dig at you but a guideline as to what info would be usefull)

The quote you saw was me 'thanking' Karyuu for ruling out the non-compliance issue with OpenGL.
