Yay! \\o// I was wondering when the deghir would be implemented (after reading all about them in the library), and if these are only some of the new changes. I kind of don't like the chat bubbles...makes me think a little bit about MSN or something else closely related to it X-/. But everything else looks great. When the other features, which haven't been enabled yet are, will you add them to this list?

Otherwise the update looks great! I'm so glad it's finally out. Good job.

Great work, Devs! Can't wait to play!

Time to write some big books, hope the book writing system is already useable. This new guild management features might be quite interesting as well.

So these are the 2 most important new features for me(I don't care much about graphics and models :P)

I responded to some of the ones that were complaining and was chided ever so slightly. Ah well, I am older and bolder. My husband being IT Systems Support, I knew you guys were working diligently on the system to make improvements and I applaud your efforts!!!  Thank you. Hope the small donation can be of help too.

For all my knowledge that I dont play this game very often, I still get extremely exciteted when a new release comes out. Even if I have to wait a little extra, reading about the additions to the game is always alot of fun.

Building a game is no easy task, I should know, congratulations on your progress so far.

This release was well worth the wait ...

I do have one question though, will it be possible for existing Enkidukai and Kran characters to transfer to one of the newly available skins or will we need to remake our characters if we want a skin that more closely resembles their appearance?

Post by: Natrina on July 12, 2007, 12:08:03 pm
Probably not. The enkis from MB have been changed colors from time to time (first we could chose, then we became black and then the current white) and we still can't chose, so it's probable we'll have to wait till a wipe comes to be able to chose our real skin tones.

Well the developers obviously haven't. But putting that aside, I find them very convenient.

Added lot of new items, like bludgeoning weapons...
Does this mean that it's possible to use maces and hammers now?

It will be possible when those skills are made active. So far what we have done is simply add those item models to the game. Some more work is needed to make them actually usable the same way swords, daggers, and axes are.

Convenient, but ugly.  People like Karyuu fought to make labels less intrusive, and now we have chatbubbles.

I see it as an interactive comic book feel to the game, like I mentioned before. Sadly not everybody is wishing to make PlaneShift a believable "fantasy history in a comic book template" and we see things like "teh" on chat bubbles, something that is only found as well in humorous webcomics about internet subcultures.

... chatbubbles?  I thought the community decided against them?

And who said the community has any decion-making power here besides stop playing PlaneShift?

I'm back from vacation and it's very good to see the client released. I'm downloading it right now so I haven't seen all the new art yet, but since I tested a lot of the new code with the Testing Team I can already give many thanks to Nilaya and Vengeance. The newcomers Kemedes, DeathKiller and Alejandro also deserve a bow. Remaining thanks go to the Testing Team, especially members Lanarel and Caarrie, for helping to make this release as bug-free as possible!

I noticed that it said that "some new features in the update will be enabled shortly", when they are enabled are we going to have to use the PlaneShift Updater? Or will they simply be updated and the Updater will not be necessary? And with these new features, will they also be added onto the list?

What's this supposed to mean?  I bought a "mace and hammer" type of weapon 2 days ago and it works just like it should.(I was able to level the "mace and hammer" skill up with it also)
P.S.  THANKS for the great update!

Ah, of course.  Except that I remember a number of devs hating the idea when some new players made the suggestion.  I guess they pulled a 180 on the issue?

Persuasion and influence is something I didn't mention here. I was talking about actual power to go for something that even though the majority agrees/disagrees with, the only definitive authority of the project, Talad, has the opposite opinion. So in fact, the community is poweless, though it can attempt to persuade about certain things. However, the basic framework of PlaneShift, that was already thought up even before it was launched as free, will be as easy about to convince the devs to change for something else the most of community would see as better than to drive a nail with a wrecking ball. And anyway, fortunately the chat bubbles aren't hardcoded and you can delete them by simply moving or erasing a xml file, though now I also agree that the effort spent on them would be better spent in another feature, or in more bug fixes and solidity.

Are you sure about that?  I thought Talad defers to people like Vengeance most of the time.  He'll approve the decisions people make, but he's not the source of change and he tends to go in what direction his inner circle pushes him.  That's just my impression though.

Goddamnit......10hours of download......and only limited internet ahh well better get started when i have time. Only questions are is any crafting like cooking, tailor ect put in and also does spell power bar thing actually work? Last time putting it to 100 or even 5% didnt seem to make any difference.

I like the changes.  The chickens are a bit too FF, but they're neat and I like the upgrades to both elf models.  The only complaint I'll make is that the Nolthirs should have blue-green hair, and right now it's red.

That's only because Nolthrirs aren't using the nolthrir model yet. For us to add blue-green hair to a non-nolthrir model would be a bit silly. Our art department is doing a terrific job right now and I have every confidence the remaining races will get completed soon(tm) so there's no real need for workarounds.

It wouldn't be silly at all because the Nolthrir model isn't available yet.  Further, no one is saying that the art department isn't doing a terrific job.  Soon(tm) is typically a very long period of time so a workaround is entirely reasonable.

I don't like using one race's qualities on a model that doesn't belong to that race, nor do I like art workarounds. People will survive until we have the Nolthrir models available.

Of course people will survive.  People would survive even if the entire project failed.  It would just be nice to have, that's all.:)
