Title: Transformers Movie
Post by: Hatchnet on July 14, 2007, 05:15:57 am
Any of my old friends from here gone to see it? And if so what did you think?

Myself while it was certainly a departure from TF cannon I realy enjoyed it. Bay actualy did a good job with it (and hopefully will continue to do so with the sequels). Don't expect me to post any spoilers here or anything; I want to know your actual oppinions.

now lets see how many people here remember me

Ok so you probably dont know me at all, but I just saw (with quite a large worry of how they would pull it off and not be totally lame).

I am happy to say its while reasonably cliche/what you would expect to see its worth the watch.  I would point out its going to be a target audience (a bit like starship troopers) but it will get a good following I believe.

Enjoy all.

Perhaps I missed the point as I was not raised on the cartoon (although my friend who watched it religiously agreed with me), but to me the most memorable part of the experience was the preview for the Simpsons Movie before the feature.

Anyone seen the movie "Team America"?
They had this great song it with the lyrics:
'Why is Micheal Bay still allowed to make movies?'
;) After seeing Transformers, everybody is going to ask that question.

Eeh...I'm with them on this point. Didn't care much for the new movie.
Then again I didn't expect much from it either. Now a Thundercats Movie would be cool.

Actually, I would prefer a Smurfs movie staring Danny DeVito as Gargamel.

hey Hatchnet,

it was a fair film... the cartoons were cooler though.

the end fight really just seemed to drag on in the end and the product placement in it was annoying.

And don't forget on having Karl Groucho Marx as Papa S.M.U.R.F*. as well...

First you'll have to get approval of this fellow:

It was Him, and not Marx who invented the Smurfs.

@Socius: S.M.U.R.F.S. for everyone! The Smurfs are communists, so its creator won't pay a burgeoise lawyer to make an unjust capitalistic lawsuit against anyone who creates a movie about them. Now maybe he left this world, and then a corporate got hold of the smurfs copyrights alongside Mafiaa (http://www.mafiaa.org/) and will get their lawyers ready to make additional profits from sues.  >o)

As of the original topic, I never saw much on transformers, actually "oldschool" stuff I saw and liked a long time ago was Jaspion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juspion), Jiraya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sekai_Ninja_Sen_Jiraiya) and Jiban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiban) among other tokusatsus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokusatsu)(Except of course Power Rangers). I heard about Changeman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changeman) too, but never saw it. I think all those mentioned series have one or more resemblances to Tranformers, specially the "giant robots" stuff.

Good scene from the movie.  Contains some spoilers but has a nice speech by Optimus ( the original voice actor for the cartoons also did the movie which was a nice touch ).

wait wait wait, Let me get this straight: It's about aliens who call themselves 'autobots' ? and can transform into Cars?  ??? Why would an Alien transform into a car, does this movie imply that even 'higher' beings don't give a wooden nickel about nature?
Title: Re: Transformers Movie
Post by: ty on August 02, 2007, 02:44:50 pm
lol these autobots can transform in to anything
although they disguise themselves as vechicles
Title: Re: Transformers Movie
Post by: Socius Rockus on August 02, 2007, 02:56:03 pm
Then why do they call themselves 'autobots'? Why not fridgebots, toasterbots, machinebot or even better robots? If they can trnaform into everything  I mean, if you're a conscious alien being (though machine like) which can 'think', would you call yourslef an 'autobot'?. But hey, maybe they're just not that creative minded, else they would probably have chose other things to transform in then cars :D

Hmm Maybe I mixed up languages :P You see, 'auto' Means 'car' in Dutch. That's Why i thought it was a lame name :P While all the time I was lame  ;D
Anyway from what i've seen on Youtube are the only good actors the 'autobots' themselves, I think I'll rent it sometime when it's in the renting discount pack :P

Hello!

Hmm Maybe I mixed up languages :P You see, 'auto' Means 'car' in Dutch. That's Why i thought it was a lame name :P While all the time I was lame  ;D

Well, I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but weren't the "Autobots" cars and trucks in the cartoon series? I always thought that the name was derived from "automobile" and "robots". But I have to admit I have some difficulties explaining the name "Decepticons" with this system. Well, maybe I'm just as lame. ::)

With kind regards
Kaityra

I'm pretty sure they can change into anything they want, not just cars. They just happen to choose cars cause we're lame and don't have cool japanese technology.

Wasn't starscream a f16? And Megatron was some twisted fighter plane, and the scorpion (can't remember name). Oh Frenzy too.

Best part of the film for me was the guy who shouted "Woop!" when Optimus first appeared, now you know he's cool :p

I saw it not that long ago and i personally loved it; but then i did grow up watching the cartoon at times.

And the main theme by Linkin park ("what I've done" I think) is amazing :)

To be honest, I hated it.  The acting was horrible and the plot line was really silly.  There were a lot of unnecessary and pointless chase scenes.  Except for bumble bee, prime, and megatron, the transformers were so uninvolved and given so little dialogue that they merely appeared in cameos.

Is that directed at me :D The trouble is, I've seen so many movies this summer, and so many of them have been terrible, that a nerdy, special effects ridden movie suddenly seems alot better than it is =)

But hey...
