Title: does anyone else love football?
Post by: Reyna Kaviri on August 17, 2007, 03:32:11 am
not American football (fake), European football. Football is like my life :D. Anyone else here an addict?

anyone ever heard of this guy named...David Beckham (http://youtube.com/watch?v=pr_qwkmWukI)

look up more of his videos on YouTube, there are tons of compilations.

Beckham's signing with the Galaxy (for $250 million) helped them sell millions of $80 Galaxy jerseys as well as nabbed them a deal with Herbalife for $25 million. And now, wit goals like that coming in about every game, it seems that David Beckham has paid his way. Or has he? The big question is: Is He Worth It?

So, is he?

Heya,

well .. I'm also a bit addicted to footbal and things ...

But I'm absolutely against those high amounts paid when a player changes the team.

I think all those "Sport-Stars" are paid much too much money for what they call their "work" ...

This kills the spirit of sports imho.

just my 2 Tria ...

No, he isn't worth it. He's made a good deal for himself though.

Beckham is good at crossing and free kicks, and that's it. I think many people expect him to dribble the ball down the middle past 5 players and slot it in the bottom left though :P There are many midfield players who are much better than him (See Christiano Ronaldo if you want tricks, or Frank Lampard if you want a more similar position and style of play). He's a household brand thanks to his wife however, and that's what makes him attractive to the American public.

As for the pay, well the clubs get a huge amount of money from TV, merchandise and tickets. It's only logical that a price war will occur for players between clubs, thus greatly inflating their wages.
/me is a Chelsea supporter. None of that stinky ManUtd stuff :P

I like playing football. I hate watching it. Its dull, slow paced and repetitive to watch in my opinion.  :)

Oh hell yeah, I like both playing and watching football. It's a national sport I must say in Romania (as in very popular), oh well, maybe because we sure are talented indeed. You're speaking of Beckham? Remember of Hagi, Popescu, Dorinel Munteanu? Or, let's come back to what we call present. Mutu, Chivu anyone? Hehe.

I guess that's why we have 3 teams in UEFA Cup and 2 in Champion's League at the moment. Why? You know, "being good"...

:innocent:

Rapid Bucuresti !!!

I see Romanian football bigger then I though

Well you learn something every day  :D

But I gotta claim that the English Premier League is the best in Europe

( or the most expensive considering the amount of money goes into it  ;D)

I personally like the South American football leagues. They play for passion. For them, it's pure art, simply amazing.

my impression of soccer:

I was on a team when i was growing up.  I was always the goalie.   I didn't mind being the goalie mind you, I just disliked the idea that the coaches fat son got to be center when everyone else on the team was well more able to do the job of a center better than he was.  His son couldn't get half awy down  the field without having to take a breather.  Only position he was good for was goalie, but nope, me being the fastest best ball handler on the team was goalie cause I could kick it the farthest.   ::)

Mr. coach didn't care about facts though, so he let his son be center and the rest of the team hated him for it.  Coach was an idiot during practices as well and we basically practiced on our own.  Sad thing was, we were pretty good compared to the other teams in the league, minus the coach and his son, so we won a bunch.

So on the championship match, as I was goalie, and the coaches son was center like all the other matches.  I decided that I had had enough, and I stopped playing goalie and just stood there every time the ball came my way and let it go in the goal.  Coach never took me out, so I just let them score over and over again.  Rest of the team stopped playing and we watched as the coaches son tried to play the whole team by himself until the ref called it, came over over to us, asked just what the crap was going on, and then called the game after he was told the reason.

If the coach would have listened to the rest of the team liked we had tried to talk some sense into him all season long, we probably would have won it all.  Best part was the after party celebration for our "victory".  We didn't let the coach or his son come.   I still have that second place trophy somewhere around this messy room too.  Good memories.

Soccer is oke by it's own, I just hate it when people constantly talk about it, about transfers and goal count. then they sit down the whole day watching the game and if there are no game they surf on the web to watch football or visit sites to have soccer news. and of course the worst is that they buy computer games to play soccer and they try to reanact the RL happenings in the soccer world....
Now i know people talk a lot about gamers having no life... But i think too enthusiastic soccer supporters are worse.
I mean watching someone doing something active the whole day why you do nothing... Blew

Kidding me right? Every time I went up to London to see my uncle I used to go to Griffin Park to watch a game. It might be that Brentford suck or more likely football is boring to watch. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is nice if not a little overly mobish but the football doesn't appeal to me to watch.

Anyone seen the match between Ireland and Germany yesterday? It's been a while since I wished I didn't spend 90 minutes at the TV. The lousiest match from Germany in the era Loew, really. Best player of the match, Lehmann, in my opinion.

Nice game

wonder why it go so viciously raped by commerce.

if you get paid 20 million $ a year, and still miss 50% of your shots taken at the goal.... you oughta get fired.

bottom line... Iplay soccer/football with my friends, but I disgust, dispise everything else that has to do with that so called game.

Merseyside derby  today was a  disgrace...steven gerrard is slowly turning into Ronaldo. The ref bottled  it, he had a yellow card then gerrard said some words so the ref pulled out a red. Also lets not mention the obvious 2 penalties that everton should of had

P.S Hey, got to vent my fustrations somewhere :P

No one's mentioned the CFL yet? shame on you canadians...shame on you! Grey Cup was yesterday...Blue Bombers vs Rough Riders....Rough Riders won; which would explain the watermelon helmets I saw running around last night.

I will admit that I prefer Arsenal...much to my brother's disappointment (Man U supporter he is). Still think  it's because of David Beckham (who can't play football...just a good poster boy).  any fave FIFA World cup?

As a Brit I was so glad to see REAL football. Not fake rugby.
I'm not much of a football fan, and David Beckham (and his wife) is a twat.
Though it was eally funny to see several first division teams get their arses kicked by some complete unknowns the otheday. What the hell happened?

So, is he?

No. I don't believe anyone is worth that amount of money no matter how hard and good you play. Besides when did these football players forget that they started these careers for the love of the game (Well most of em anyway) and not the money? I think we should quit paying these people so much, there are other people who have way harder jobs who should get paid that amount. Just my two cents though......

Oh and to answer the thread title, no I don't love football. :P
