okay i know this one is old but to me it's a new bug
right side of bdout is dark, not all just the ground
so i wonder, what has been changed on the map from 0.3.020, back then it worked just fine
also curious if anyone else has gotten this with the new version, and on windows only, know it's quite common on linux
sysinfo if needed
win xp sp2
p4 ht 3.2ghz, 1.5gb ram, geforce 7800gs 256mb
most resent drivers btw
-
I got this already before the release with the compiled version (dont remember which one though)
its dark and have some holes in the ground..happily we dont die by falling :)
system specs:
Windows Vista
Geforce6600 256mb.
driver: not the lastest. (because it causes other problems)
-
Same issue here, on XP SP2. I tried walking anyways and am now stuck for fear of my character dying. I can see objects, just not the ground. If more system info is needed please let me know.
UPDATE
Running with the -fullbright parameter, http://www.planeshift.it/faq.html (http://www.planeshift.it/faq.html), I was able to see the ground. So far this is the only area I've seen this in, so once I leave the area I'll return to normal lighting, but I figure this might help for now.
-
Funny enough, with my compiled svn version, there is a line down the middle, the right side the grass is black, the left is correct, and also the hole near the entrance is still there.
But using the linux x64 release version, there are only a few black spots, and the hole is closed in.
I tried setting the all the config files exactly the same, and copying across the svn psclient binary, it made no difference, so my guess is it's one of the included system libraries in libs/ in the release version, I will test more sometime.

It works on the old lighter1 maps which there are a *few* left bd being one of them. but over all for most issues it will not help you.

Same here in Vista, however don't worry about dying, falling through the hole near the entrance will drop you straight into the BD fortress, a very quick trip  Unfortunately at the time I dropped through it I was heading back to Hydlaa, and had to do the trip all the way from the fortress again. ???
-
I have the black side and hole too. (Win XP) Well, had the black side, but relighting the map fixed that.
Back in 0.3.020 the map was fine in PlaneShift, but had the black side and hole in walktest. (CS 1.2)

The hole that splits the land, the giant gaping one that takes up a large portion of the map? How far in can you go with it, will it take you to the fortress no matter where you fall in? ???

i was just there tonight.
the entire right side was completely black (save rocks here and there)
the entire left side was normal with small patches of black on some slopes
i got quite lost in the blackness
i run:
MacOSX 1.5.2
Leopard Graphics Update 1.0
Keyboard Update 1.0
Hardware:
MacBook (late 2007 model - 3,1)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.2 GHz)
RAM: 2 x 512 667MHz DDR2
Graphics: Intel GMA X3100 (144MB VRAM)
Applied Fixes as per http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=31743.msg365021#msg365021 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=31743.msg365021#msg365021)
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression = false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Fragment=false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Vertex=false
(NB 'fixes' did not fix this particular issue)

first to Jaelin those fixes *dont* apply to you or this issue. Second there is a new way to package the game and it seems that this bug that has been seen on mac and linux is now on windows. The best way to fix this is to relight the map.
-
then we have a problem caarrie, the relight option in setup on windows is gone
-
I'm not sure if this fix still works with SteelBlue, but it's worth a try: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=29997.0

you thought at the same thing :P but it does worse, personaly. X-/

the you have to do it from the command line with --relight
-
i'm prolly doing something wrong but that does not work either
-
add -fullbright to the command line in your shortcut. I didn't use -relight, don't know if that's the same thing. and i can finally see that part of the map.
-
It isn't nearly the same thing, -relight recalculates the lighting of a map when it is loaded. It can take a few hours...

fullbright no longer is supported due to all the maps being eventually converted to a new lighter2 type, so use it at your own risk, and we are not responsible for the adverse effects it could cause on your system.
-
I used -fullbright for the outside bronze doors area, and it worked for me. I stopped using it once I left that map. And regarding the falling off and not dying, apparently that doesn't work once inside the fortress.
-
I had the same problem. -relight worked for me (took nearly 3 hours though :( ). Remember that your character has to have logged off in the area you are relighting.
-
okay some news on this and a odd one at that, if i run the same game and map on 1 of my older comps with a geforce 3 titanium 500 card it's actually fine, not black at all ::|
so... now i wonder what could couse this one newer card but not on say a 3-5 year old card
-
I just copied all of the old files into the new file, and everything was clearly visible, including the hole in the map.
