I'm not sure what the purpose is for this "curse" or why somebody thinks it is necessary for roleplay, but I think it just adds insult to injury, especially in the early stages. Case in point, while trying to fulfill a quest for rat hides one rat took me from 244 hps to 0!!! Luckily I knew the way out of the death realm and I think that should be punishment enough. I could understand if I was making some unwise choices. But there is no skill involved in doing battle and no way to stop the attack once it has started, so I was marked for death before I even started. Then I had to sit on my hands waiting for the next 15 minutes before I could resume my game?? This is like no other roleplaying game I have ever played.

Well, the curse was introduced to stop people using a trip through the death realm as a short cut from moving from one place to another, generally from a mine to a furnace.
There is skill that can be used in fighting, and you can always just run away from a creature if you are close to death and you will be fine, maybe carry healing potions or lean healing spells for future battles. And as it is a role playing game, maybe take the time you are cursed for to get to know some of the other players?
And in terms of Role Play there is an in character reason for the curse, if you read the books in the death realm library you will find out what it is.

this is your own fualt you should have watched your health

finding your way out of the death realm isnt a punishment at all, its really easy to do and hardly a walk at all.
the curse is meant to be the punishment.
if you just came back to life from death, youd be weak too
But there is no skill involved in doing battle
this is false, actually knowing how to fight half decent is a skill, sword level and armor levels are skills, knowing when to back off from somthing, i guess can be considered a skill.
no way to stop the attack once it has started,
wrong again, there is a little icon near your health bar which stops attack also there is /stopattack.
I had to sit on my hands waiting for the next 15 minutes
techniacally it was the next 30 minutes :P

One question. What level were you before they instituted drakkur's curse?

Knowing how to fight half decent is not a skil in this gamel!!!! It takes hours and hours of mining and other repititous tasks to earn points to be able to train not to die. Another words it is just some random equation in computer language to handicap players just starting out in this game. Just because someone figured out some shortcut on how to cheat??? It wasn't some NEWBIE that did that!!!!! With a little more effort I bet someone could figure out a better way.
-
Also it is not a skill having enough agility points to be able to escape from a failed attack!!!! If you have spent all those hours earning those agility points to get away and all those hours spent earning those points to be able to fight well then I guess you deserve to be successfull in this game. As it is tho, I don't think the reward justifies all the frustration.

As frustrating as it can be getting started out, after you get the hang of the game you will see that you frequently can avoid unfortunate death. Pretty much the only time you cannot is when you fight a monster that can one hit kill you. Maybe you need to get more used to the controls and get more practice with the interface. It isn't always obvious what is possible or which set of options are most useful to you.

dakkrus curse has been around way longer then i have been playing, and i've been playing for over a year.

knowing how to fight half decent isnt a skill in the game, its just a skill of its own, a skill of the player, learn to run away :P
besides its only hard for newbs right now becuase the devs are apperently confused on how strong they want the monsters to be..
as a newb you should have started with weapons from the tutorial, i have an alt, alts dont get any weapons or armor or anything when they start, but i got him up withouta problem..and BTW agility doesnt make you run faster, it just makes you more likely to dodge

Exactly.

i think thats a good thing, we want to be diffrent, if you wanna go nowhere follow the crowd

to compare death penalties:
PS= drakku's curse: attributes lowered 50% for 30 minutes, if you happened to be carrying inventory thats over half your total weight you'll be unable to move.
WoW= resurrection sickness: attributes lowered 75% for 10 minutes plus a 25% durability hit to weapons and armor added to the 10% hit from dieing (35% total), for those 10 minutes you probably don't want to attack anything but then again 10 minutes isn't long, the real penalty is the repair bills at higher levels of gear.
Ultima Online and i think Darkfall= drop all your items and gear on death, hope the scavengers didn't take it all by the time you run back to your corpse.
Final Fantasy XI= you lose experience if you die, and you can lose levels if you die a lot.
EvE Online= similar to UO and darkfall, your ship is destroyed and you hope the surviving modules aren't taken before you get back to the wreck with another ship, thats if you don't get podded after your ship is destroyed, if you get podded, all implants you had at the time are gone which can be expensive to replace, and if you didn't keep your clone updated you'll have lost alot of skillpoints, also there's a newer penalty for those who can pilot tech 3 strategic cruisers in that if you get podded you'll lose a level in one of the strat cruiser related skills regardless of wether you had an updated clone or not.
so yeah every MMO has their way of dealing with death and a lot of them are annoying. you just have to learn to deal with it, thankfully you can get PP through other means and while it may be slower it doesn't completely shut you down, as for killing creatures, just figure out what's easy to kill and work from there, you might just have to kill a lot of one-eyed rats before you have the weapon and armor skills high enough to safely kill a diseased rat.

There is a player skill involved with fighting, as well as the skill levels IG for weapon and armor stats. The player is able to move during the combat. You do not need to stand toe to toe with a monster in order to fight successfully. Use your controls to strike, strafe, and retreat. The weapons are designed with speed stats, so there is a timing issue that you can get the hang of with practice. It is possible to get a rhythm of 'dancing' with the monster to get your strikes in and seldom let the monster hit you.

when i was around [nearly 5 years ago] there wa sno curse so we were free once we left DR which is an automatic teleportation to ojaveda
-
You know what I dont like about the curse? they put the curse in so people wont go in there so people wont risk their lives, so they wont get free access to their own city but I have seen people going in DR lately so they could get double PP, so their training would be twice as fast. Oh and it is in the frag server too. ?!?! :@#\. I think they should change that

the curse isnt that bad, and its not somthing to cry over if you risk your life and end up dieing, as for using DR to go to your own town, they put it in so people would think twice about using death as to get from BD to oja To get quests to go twice as fast, its kinda cheating
