Hello everyone!
I just started playing yesterday and still haven't the faintest idea what I'm doing, but that's ok. I truly enjoy a game that is complex and requires that I pay attention. However, I'm having difficulties finding any type of vendor who sells clothing of some kind. Currently my character is an aspiring Klyros oneiromancer, and it'd be nice to have some sort of robe or at least something better than the loincloth I have on now!
Is there some sort of "hotbar" for spells? It has already gotten annoying to have to open up my spellbook every time I need to cast something, mainly because the window it brings up is 3/4ths the size of the screen and makes seeing anything quite dificult.
Also, Klyros' have wings and their description says they can fly a short distance. Has this been implemented?
Finally, whenever I run the launcher it tells me there is an update available, but I don't have permissions to download it. Is this something I should worry about?
I haven't run into anyone to RP with yet, but I must've been on at an odd time or something. Hope to see some of you IG!

Hello Quiiil.... oh well... :@#\ :@#\ :@#\
1) Unfortunately characters can't be customized much since there aren't different clothes: you can wear armours of various kind, namely light, medium and heavy and magic robes. Probably you could start wearing a light armour.
2) Right click with mouse on the diamond icon you should see in the upper left corner of your screen until you see all the available icons. Then you can click on the icon named "shortcuts" (it's appearence could vary depending on the skin you choose). From there you can set a lot of shortcuts, spells included.
Let's say you want a shortcut for "flame burst": right click on an empty slot. Choose a name for you shortcut, for example "Flame Burst" ( :P ) then insert the command:
/cast k-factor flame burst
where k-factor is a number between 0 and 100 and it's the power of the spell. 0 it's the default ( and the suggested value if you are not high skilled in the Magical Way of the spell, in this case Red Way ). k-factor is optional, thus you can simply type
/cast flame burst
Then choose a comfortable shortcut key.
When done, confirm the changes.
3) Currently Klyros can't fly
4) If you are under Windows, try right clicking the launcher icon and choose "run as administrator".
I hope this will help you and... welcome! :D :D

Thanks for the speedy response Jawir!
Next time I log in I'll definitely be making a shortcut for my one spell! :D Thanks a ton for the step by step.
So there are robes? How does one acquire them? Do players make them or is there a specific vendor I need to be on the lookout for?
Thanks again!

Robes are giving by the npc in the magic way that you chose. You will need to be level 40 to get a robe. Armor can be purchased from npc's or other players. Many players will give armor to new players.
The easy way to place a spell in short-cuts is to unlock it and then drag the spell to an empty slot. You can right-click on an empty slot and enter a command, set a hot-key and even set an icon for it.
-
Robes are acquired as rewards for devoted study of magic (i.e. through the Way Circle quests).
Another tip: not only can you bind spells to the shortcut bar, you can (and very much should) bind keyboard shortcuts to them.
EDIT: Drat, Waesed's a ninja :P

Drat, Waesed's a ninja :P
A dwarf ninja! Can I get a robe that shows now? ;D
-
Way circle Quests. Got'ya... Do I speak with the guy in the magic shop to start on those quests? Or is there another person I need to find?
I get it if this is FOIG info, I just haven't run into any other players IG to ask yet ;)
Thanks again everyone!

Magic starts with the Magic Shop.
-
So after sitting through the lecture at the Magic shop on Ways and Circles, I was told I needed to choose a way. So I chose the Dark Way (being an aspiring Onieromancer and all, it seemed natural) and he told me I needed to speak with a guy named Oriven. However there was no dialogue option asking where I could find him.
I spent around 40 minutes combing through the streets of Hydlaa (right?) looking for someone named Oriven but couldn't find him(or her). I did find a big nasty looking creature walking around in East Hydlaa, which I promptly ran from and tried to find some other players (no luck) to deal with it. It wasn't there when I returned though.
So, again. As much as I hate to ask it, where can I find this person named Oriven? I'd ask IG, but I seem to have awful luck finding other players.
Thanks!

Hi,
Yes, depending on the time it can be difficult to come across players in person, but you can always use the Chat channel to ask questions. Other players will then answer you. For questions on game mechanics (How to do this and that), use the Help channel.
As for the whereabouts of Oriven, he is in the Death Realm, a place you will visit soon enough.
If you are really in a hurry to meet him, just "/die".
Is your character name Quiiliitiila? I will look out for you next time I am on.
See you soon,
Gonger
-
Just be aware that you cannot actually get to the Death Realm unless the character has already spent 15 hours in the game.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I didn't realize the chat system was a global one, I thought it was only "heard" from a certain distance. I never thought to attempt to just talk with other players though one of the channels.
I've died a few times (ok like 5 or 6 times) already, but I get a message saying Drakku(sp?) doesn't want me yet, so I guess that goes along with what Bilbous said and I need to be logged in for quite a bit longer.
My character's name is Costemogen, I've been trolling around the Laanx temple's underground dungeon area getting killed by stuff. Currently I was in the main square when I logged off.
Hope to see you all IG at some point!

Just read the stuff above, I'll add some question responses to levrus so you can manually ask him "where is X".

That would be incredibly helpful, thanks for taking the time to do it!
-
I added them, they will out in the next update. Which shouldn't be too far off.
It's nice when new people comment on stuff like this as it gives me ideas as to where I can try to improve things. Thanks for taking the time to ask this stuff Quiiliitiila.

Greetings and welcome! :D
My suggestion if you want to be an oneiromancer is becoming an Azure Way adept. Azure way deals with the mind and its power more than dark way (and doesn't require the same first hand knowledge with Dakkru's realm ;) ), but feel free to study whatever suit you most :)

I was thinking nightmares and horror when I originally came up with the idea to be an Onieromancer. Which was why I chose Dark instead of Azure. However, I think my character concept'll be changing to more of a sciency necromancer. So Dark way works just fine!
I JUST figured out how to get out of Dakkru's realm this morning. Only took me like 2 hours :P Now I'm overburdened in the plaza like a fish outta water. But I'm cool 8)
-
I would like to point out another thing that came up while I was playing through the first Dark Way quest. The Dark Way requires you spend time in Dakkru's realm, often having to go there (at least for the beginning quests) more than once to speak with people and complete or advance quests.
My opinion is that that places a fairly significant disadvantage on Dark Way users (at least the beginning ones) because of the death penalty that is imposed. Having to wait 30 minutes before adventuring or even moving (in my case) can be a bummer and frustrating, especially if you have to do it again because of your questline.
My suggestion, unless it's already a thing I don't know about, would be to make Dark Way adepts resistant to Dakkru's curse? Perhaps negating some of the penalty? Or perhaps making it so when your character ritually kills themselves to go report in (I.E. /die) there is no penalty associated with it?
I don't know, it seems like it'd make being a Dark Way novice a bit easier. I'm sure at higher levels the curse isn't THAT bad, but at my level it is killer.

There are a couple of things you can do to avoid having to sit too long. The Death Guardian, the Grendol looking thing at the dead end end of the catwalk before you climb the second spiral ramp will buy many things, so if you died unexpectedly you can unburden yourself before leaving the realm. If you find you are still overweight after returning to Hydlaa you can drop enough stuff to be able to walk then dump some into storage then go back for what you left. Harnquist does storage. You can also ask for a strength spell, either in the gossip channel or through role play, /shout will be heard if there is someone working in the smithy and they are not too focused on their work. If you are going to the Death Realm intentionally, make sure you are not carrying more than your encumbrance rating.

Yeah, I figured there were quite a few ways to mitigate the penalty. However, from what I understand (I could be wrong though, please correct me if I am) many if not all Dark Way users are servitors of Dakkru and at least for the beginning quests that I've started, Dark Way quests are serving her in some way.
If this is true, wouldn't it stand to reason that Dakkru wouldn't curse her own servants and disciples when they came to her realm willingly? From a RP standpoint, it doesn't make much sense for her to be cursing the people working for her.
I suppose from a game development standpoint, it may be difficult to implement a system changing this in some way, so I see the problem.

Technically DW practitioners are not required to worship Dakkru even if some of the trainers are her worshippers.

Never ever question the reasons of a god not even from a RP point of view :D
On the other side a Dakkru worshipper (from a RP point of view) may feel honoured to have the curse upon him feeling it as a direct connection with her divine touch.
From a OOC point of view much of bilbous' suggestions are very useful, and you can train DW even outside the DR, however if I remember when I was training my DW quite some time ago I felt like having to train in the DR was something special that made it feel cool (and back than it was really necessary to stay in the DR because in order to raise the skill it was necessary to go to the trainers each time).

I got the distinct impression that once you join the DW circle you're working for Dakkru? Oriven even sends your "contact" to his "Dark Mistress" telling you something along the lines of "there is no turning back now".
I know not ALL Dark Way users need to worship Dakkru, but (again from what I've experienced in the dialogue) the Circle members all report to Dakkru the boss lady.

Good point, God's shouldn't be questioned (or should they? :whistling:).
-
/die is boring. driving someone else to the point of killing you is a lot more fun, and worth more Dakkru points.
If you have a problem with the 'curse', I feel Icerra should teach your character a lesson or two about the importance of detachment and sacrifice in devotional service. Too bad she's merely the shadow of a whisper adrift somewhere in the endless void which is the DR.

Instead of posting a new topic every time I have another question, I'll just keep asking here. I hope no one minds.
I'm quite befuddled at the moment with how training works in regards to PPs and stats vs. skills. I have a seemingly large amount of PPs lying around and I'd like to train up some of my skills. However, whenever I try and spend some it tells me I cannot train that skill anymore. It doesn't matter what skill I try and train.
I get further with trying to spend PPs on stats, but it tells me I need to be "training" to increase the skill... ???
So, my question is: How exactly do you train skills other than an endless grind? I've been doing quests and fighting baddies that I can actually handle (rats and the occasional rogue :-[) and I think I've leveled my DW up twice in three days. That's a pretty hefty grind.
Also, how does one increase stats? Can I fight a rat with my charaisma? Is my willpower something I can throw like a rock? :D
Am I missing something fundamental? Or do I just need to buckle down and grind for the next few weeks to get my skills up so I can advance my quest line?
Thanks!

As I said earlier training is automatic, the only thing you need pps for now is to increase your stats. To do that you find a trainer that trains the stat you wish to increase and give them money. They have an option in the context menu for train if they train any stat. They will charge you money and pps. If you look in the skills and stats window hot key p, you should see that some of your skills have already advanced, weapon and armor, if you have been fighting. The magic way if you have been casting, and factions (not terribly relevant yet) if you have only been doing quests.

Was that you this morning? Thanks for the help, the session timed out or something before I could clarify a few things, rather than spam the help chat again, I figured I'd just post here. :)
Are stats tied into skills? For example; if my charisma is to low, will it stop me from gaining levels in DW? Likewise, would a low endurance affect my body (health) skill?
Also, is it appropriate to ask where stat trainers are OOCly? How does one role play looking for a charisma trainer? "Hello, I'm looking for someone to teach me to have a stronger personality. Do you know anyone like that?"
Thanks for bearing with me!
-Q

no. it was in another thread, I mentioned it. I thought it was to you but it apparently wasn't.
Stats are tied to skills but will only slow your progress not put a cap on them.
You can ask anything OOCly in Gossip as long as you do not reveal too much information. The reply you get may come in the whisper channel. So you could ask "who trains charisma?" in Gossip but not expect a reply in the same channel. You might get one in it but that would be someone revealing spoilers generally and they could get sanctioned. A better way to ask would be "Can anyone /tell me" the info I want. You might get an obfuscated response in gossip that hints at the information without being specific such as "try looking around the temple" but that is a grey area.
Really you are kind of expected to right click on npcs and clicking on their train option. If it comes up blank -- no stat listed -- keep them selected then type in the npc chat tab "about training" and they should tell you which stats they train. If you then type in "about training [specific stat]" they ought to tell you who leads up to their level of training and who follows up after they have finished training you.

Why this isn't posted somewhere baffles me but you should check out www.planeshift.net and most of your questions will be answered.
-
Unless the site has changed, that's considered a spoiler.
As a rule of thumb, you can find in-game books in areas relative to your character. For example, look in the magic shop for books on magic, etc...
There are more books that have yet to be written so you'll see more books on some subjects than on others.
As for dark way, that's a good choice for a character who wishes to use fear based tactics. Fortunately, there are good ic resources for dw.
With regard to magic vs religion, they are separate.
If you read the settings material on planeshift.it, you'll see that one god made glyphs for all the ways - rendering him unaligned with any particular way.
Rather than viewing gods as good or evil, I think its more useful to look at what each god promotes or stands for.
-
Hard to think of it as a spoiler when it's a PS site.

It doesn't seem too affiliated to me.
