Hehe, calm down, I shouldnt have told you in the first place, but talad did suggest that he did not want mining to be part of the game. I dont know what abilities poeple will have to manipulate items, but I doubt you can create items from raw materials like \"that other game\". This is unofficial information, so please dont assume im speaking for planeshift.

I also havent played runescape, but ive heard quite alot about it. Ive visited the sites and several message boards, but I didnt find it interesting enough to play in the first place. Im sure whatever features this game will have will be interesting and addicting, but I personally cant find much enjoyment of roleplaying a smith that constantly creates items for others, simply by clicking.

Good day...

Edit: I dont really think mining will be part of the game due to the tedious and non-interesting gameplay associated with that role. Please note, its entirely possible for enchanting or smithing to appear in this game, depending on what we feel is best.

Thats very unlikely, the game wont be made final until its working reliably and has been extensively tested with ALL of its stats and skills, and is balanced correctly by a fairly large number of beta testers.

The final game (the one after the beta has been finished and tested) will probably arrive in 5 or 6 years from now, but its hard to give an exact date...

The quality of the graphics will not effect the network throughput, and also the team does not have time to make three versions of all game graphics. If you meet the minimum requirements of the game you will not have any problems with system load caused by the 3d graphics.

General Discussion / What internet connection do you have?

In an effort to understand what connection the game should be optimised to work best on, I would like to know what connection you have to the internet.

The assertion that death would be common place in this world is totally wrong. I am not sure exactly how easy it is to die, but I imagine death would be used mostly as a deterrant to levelling up in high leveled areas when you are less experianced than you need to be. In other words, normal gameplay should not result in death, at least when you are not very high leveled.

Everyones ideas are very good, and I would think that battling out of hell would be interesting, as long as it isnt too easy to do, and required you to work with others who have died. One idea would be to have all your items dispursed throughout hell, and you are trapped in an enclosed area where you must then gather back your items and fight to gain back your life and displace your soul into the physical plane of existance.

On the other hand, many people would not like a mistake to cause them all these problems, especailly if they allow a friend to play their account and they get them killed. Restarting in town, perhaps with a penalty would be quite interesting, but I can imagine problems where people amass too many items and the game becomes flooded with high level characters.

I have always disliked the fact that in many games, you can level up infinately, and especailly for those players the game becomes very easy and repetitive, causing them to get bored of the game and retire. The challenge of restarting and trying another race or character build can be quite good.

Throughout all this, a balance must be made, I would like to thank everyone for their input in this matter and the PlaneShift team will use this as a frame of reference later in development when it is needed to implement this aspect of the game.

General Discussion / What should happen when you die?
« on: January 27, 2002, 10:27:12 pm »
Im wondering, alot of games let you just restart in town or some thing like that. Other games like Diablo 2, have a hardcore mode causing theyre character to die permanently. Whereas, others let you die under some circumstances but not under others. What system would you like seen in planeshift?

I dont particularly like that idea, its not very roleplay like. It probably wouldnt make much money because it would be difficult to track clicks or views like with webbased advertising.

It is true that one of the polls regarding release dates mentioned that date, I beleive, but that was not official. There has not been any official word on the release date yet...

I assume this game is already playable, is it or not?
If so, there should be straight-up answers to straight-up questions. After all, this is the newbie forum right?

I have found no minimum requirements for users
computers. Any ideas what it takes?

I understand beta stage, theres a forum for ideas right?
But just would like to know the basics all of us need to know befor downloading.
If my puter meets min. requirements, and the game is really good, I\'ll be a member for a long time, whether
its pay-for-play or not.

So, how about it y\'all? Should I take the plunge?

......remember, in the end theres always the.....uhhhh

Yes, you should very well download this game because we are working very hard on it, and we would like this game to become popular, especailly among the mature role-play community.

The game is not currently playable, and we are early in development of the software. We expect to release a technical demo of the games engine showing character creation and world navigation, as a small taste of whats cooking here at planeshift.

Minimum requirements are something around any modern computer, with a reasonable connection to the internet, ie, a 56k modem or higher with a reasonable amount of ram, and the Windows or Linux operating system with OpenGL and/or DirectX drivers.

Again, this is not a beta version, but simply a technical demonstration of the game engine. The game has not yet reached the level of completion that would needed to start a public beta test.

Thank you.

Iol...

I have nothing against valathous but I think the moderators would have alot of training and perhaps a minimum age requirement, and would probably be very selectively chosen.

I think too many people want to come to the forum to ask to be a ps department leader or jump to some high position. They should realise that we dont just accept anyone who we feel might show promise, only after alot of time and dedication to the project can one enjoy the benefits and respect of a high position in the team.

That being said, Talad really has alot to do, such as sort out servers, tend to his day job, and manage the games progresses. We are really a free game, and as a result we cant hire 20 people just to answer emails, so you will need to wait patiently for a resonse. Were very sorry about this, and we will try to improve the situation in future.

I do agree, I think its very nice to answer questions for visitors, but there is no need to create a thread to do so.
