General Discussion / Re: Introducing NPCs day/night cycles
« on: April 25, 2012, 09:32:10 am »
I don't mind guards roaming around patrolling, but vendors leaving at night is the stupidest thing ever. No other game does it for a reason, time consuming for players. No player is going to want to wait around for up to 2 hours (12 hours IG time, I believe?) waiting for their NPC to arrive. Instead they'd go get a life and stop playing Planeshift and buy Minecraft or WoW instead.

I could probably guarantee that WoW had this idea but dropped it because of it's time consumption to their players. You want the players to stay playing the game and not be bored, thus give them what they want when they want it.

With guards patrolling, making them stop walking when you want to train, talk or trade with them, would be a good task to place on your list of improvements, possibly at the top.

As it is Planeshift is frustrating enough with it's amount of lag, bugs, imbalance PPs, mobs and training, and broken quests.

This way, PlaneShift is developing from a playable and enjoyable game to a graphic demo you can just watch but not use...

I feel this way more and more with each update.
+1

Welcome Porch, I come online every now and then, if you find me online I'm happy to RP with you :)

Depending on the time of day, it can be hard to find RP. During off peak hours, when the player count drops to the 20's there really isn't much happening. The following my be helpful in finding people who RP:

I find off-peak times to be good to develop your characters skill, explore and what not.

If you can't find them anywhere there are plenty around many player run merchants sell them or you can just redo the quests to get them again.

PlaneShift News and Rules / Re: PlaneShift 0.5.9 release!!
« on: April 16, 2012, 10:48:34 pm »
Ok, well I was just wondering because normally it would be already set up before the update. And not all added interiors are a right-click on a door. E.g Amdeneir Tavern interior, they just made it so the door was permanently open.

I personally think there needs to be a redo of Harnquist's again. Sorry. It's a little mary-sue, not dirty enough and looks like a temple.

The interior to Harnquist means you can now go inside the closed doors?? I have just finished updating and the doors are shut and right click wont work.

General Discussion / Re: Bank/mules alts for guilds
« on: April 15, 2012, 09:49:48 am »
Here's the thing, having a shared account is 'against PlaneShift rules' in other words you can do it but don't complain to the GMs and Devs that someone stole all your crap. That's how I interpret most of PlaneShift's rules anyways. Otherwise if I'm wrong then save your trias and buy a gh.

Players pay huge sums of trias for ghs and the reason being is to bring their guild together, so lets face it that guild sharing/storage is just apart of paying for/having a guild house.

Not all guilds have a guild house. So enabling guild storage is really a good idea.
Well, your reason.
it has the same issues of the gh so no it's not a solution. actually it's even worse
So according to Weltall. Hoarding items in storage is just as bad as storing them in a guild house. And therefore guild storage will never be implemented because storage tends to be a players never ending pit of items, I could not even imagine the amount of items hoarded by one guild alone.

The point of guild houses being expensive and hard to come by is because of the same issue, if you just have guild storage it would be like allowing everyone and anyone a guild house. If that made sense.

My opinion isn't how to get more players into the game, that wont solve the issue. The game is a bit technical and hard to play and the general public shouldn't really get involved because it's something not for them. The general public has a low frustration tolerance (because of the amount of polished commercial games), meaning they get frustrated easily. That is why we shouldn't attract the general public. Planeshift is a frustrating game for new players this is where I think we need to focus on. Making it less frustrating.

Here's my opinions, practically the same as the losing players thread:
Planeshift needs more support for the newer players (no not just the help tab). Generally speaking, to start off it should be easier then gradually get harder, like every game I've ever played.
- Getting chased by the easiest creature in the game, a rat, is just frustrating. Rats should always be a one hit kill. It's not hard to make rats (and some other creatures) easier to kill.
- More reward after the tutorial, even if they choose the easy way out, maybe only half as much tria.
- Quest chains making more sense, where to start (why start here, where will this lead you to?) and who to go to next?

Get rid of PPs, no other game uses such a system, for various reasons. Too hard to balance, too hard to play the game. Planeshift simply and obviously does not have the resources to balance such a system and therefore I believe it should be scrapped. (Planeshift is in Alpha, let's just see how it works without it. Get some testers to try it out, see if it helps making the game easier.)

Sorry it's a little off-topic.

General Discussion / Re: Losing players?

Planeshift is no longer a fully RP based game, infact when EZPCUSA combined with Laanx it becam a combined server. I don't think Planeshift lacks in RP and I don't think that's the issue here. Having to activate your storyline is a bit pathetic tbh.

However, you got the rest right.
-Start up bonus... I'm gonna take it this means more tria after tutorial (short or long way), and information on means to get more tria for new players like mining, what you need to do to be able to mine, where to mine.
-Death isn't free, absolutely agree.

What I think could be useful towards new palyers understanding of Planshifts's setting and RP and looks good at the same time. Is a clip / trailer that automatically plays (and can be skipped after the second view) while Planeshift is loading or before it loads. Like when you play the Sims, it plays that little clip at the beginning.

Anyways, this clip could be very dense in Planeshift's setting. I also think something like a setting storyline could help. What I'm meaning is like a recent large event, a war, a fight between gods, various attacks from the Stone Labyrinths, etc. For example, WoW and it's war between Horde and Alliance(?).

Does the window look like this?
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25106032/Planeshift%20window.png

If so, this is PSlaunch and the only window that will pop up is if there's an update pending to be downloaded.

You can possibly ignore it by clicking the 'OK' button and then 'Play' however if the update is large the server won't allow you to play therefore you will need to update.

If you use Window 7 (which you stated you do)
Go into 'start' click on 'computer' 'local disk C' click on 'program file' scroll down till you find the folder 'Planeshift' and click on it, then go down to PSlaunch and left-click once then right-click it, click on 'run as administrator'.
OR
Like Naira said. If you have a short-cut, right-click that. Click on 'Run as Administrator'.

Your security may come up with a warning stating something like this 'are you sure you want to allow an unknown publisher to access your computer', click 'Yes'

Then the window (The PSlaunch window) will pop up with a 'do you want to update?' 'Yes' or 'No' question. What I do, however, is click 'no' and click 'repair' and then that will search for fixes and updates, it will then ask if you want to update, click 'yes' then after a few minutes, hours, days or often even millenniums it will be finished. YAY time to play PlaneShift!!

To do the above you need administrative rights to your computer I think.

General Discussion / Re: Losing players?
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:25:54 pm »
This is what I believe is the matter at hand.

When I first started playing Planeshift it was well populated with players. Player turnover is a very typical thing in Planeshift and has been in many other games, there is no problem with losing old players. People come on a game, get addicted, start to get bored of it, sometimes join the Dev/GM team, stick in there for awhile and then become pop-in-ers (come on every now and then). Then never seen again or seen 2 years later.

If a game loses a large number of experienced and older players quickly in a short amount of time, then the amount of newer players don't stay as long.

When I started playing Planeshift back in the old days of Steel Blue, there was a large number of new players coming through. When me and my brother first started Kore Irka Clan it boomed pretty quickly and we had plenty of new players coming into the game we could recruit. Some stayed longer than others, which is very typical.

I believe the devs need to solely work on and I mean for the next year or two. Is upgrading the Character creation (understand-ability), tutorial (new art would make new players go this is a cool free game!), character & NPC interaction (NPC speaking and mouth moving as a default setting), chain quests to make more sense as to where to start off and who to go to next. Generally making the game easier

Also redo Harnquists, it's storyline (from what I've heard) of the Octarchy paying for it is mary sue. It's a smithy and it should be dirty and what not.

Server Status / Re: The new server
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:23:56 am »
True now I see what point you are making Derula. Nice downtime logger, I think there used to be one way back with the Singapore server, it made graphs about player numbers in each month and downtime and stuff.

Also, because this is a topic about the new server/server change. It might be good that the devs work on fixing all the web pages linked to EZPCUSA and Zeroping and change them to the new server, such as MyPlane, the list of guilds on PS.it, etc.

Server Status / Re: The new server

My guess is that Zeroping saw little (if not no) advantage in sponsoring Planeshift with a server. Due to the lack of active players in general, and players recommending and using Zeroping servers for hosting websites, gaming servers and etc. Pretty much they didn't gain or break-even from what they were giving.

I do Business Studies at school and that would be my guess. Honestly, if I owned a server hosting business, I wouldn't see any benefit(s) with sponsoring PlaneShift, sorry.

Vakachehk sees the galaxy and wanders through it on his Pterosaur, he soon finds himself in a black-hole and cant get out, the high gravity squashes him into sheets of paper and is later found in a book.

Vakachehk drops a book made from real Enki.
