Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /
« on: September 22, 2004, 05:29:43 pm »
Sadly there is no way to bypass it (well I shouldn\'t say that, but the only way I can think of would be setting up a proxy on another pc that has full unblocked access, which would be a pain). The best idea I could recommend is talking to the IT people at your school.  If anyone can help, they can, since they would be the ones that have control over the routers.  Good luck! =)

Just a recommendation for people out there, I know you don\'t have the choice of what brand your school uses for their routers, and it might be an intentional blocking issue compared to tweaking needed to be done, but I just wanted to state that Linksys routers really pwn when it comes to NAT.  No forwarded is needed for any application that is client only based.  So for that reason and many others, I just want to recommend Linksys routers to anyone out there that has a choice.

I hope you are able to fix your problem.  Some people end up having to make a tunnel because their school only allows certain ports used, and I\'m not even sure if tunneling would work in this case.

I\'ve had various results, sometimes the game is frozen, but more likely it\'s still in the process of loading.  When it does work for me, it takes about a minute to load, I\'d give it a few minutes to load.  Also if you have a CPU load light, you should see it blinking like crazying during certain stages of loading.

Well awesome (perhaps the new release will even help me with my problem!).  Sadly I have nothing to offer atm, as I\'ve been focusing on photography lately - however I have the rest of the afternoon/night free, so I\'ll whip up some demo stuff and post it here =).  Current dev\'ers, keep up the great work!

Edit:  Just finished messing around in 3DS for 30mins or so.  I am looking forward to spending some more time with it as well, until then I posted a few of my craptasic n00b images here...

http://magicrock.sourceforge.net/externalprojects/planeshift/index.php

Also, I didn\'t think I had any layouts/html designs around still (I normally delete stuff after I\'ve learned all I can from it), however while uploading stuff onto SF, I saw I had my most recent layout online (created it a few weeks ago as a donation page for a fansubbing group).  It\'s VERY simple, only one static page with 6 or so random images for the middle, but it\'s better than nothing.

I will update more as the week goes on... also if there are any requests for textures or models let me know, and I\'ll see what I can come up with.

Edit 2: Feeling under the weather so I decided to drag the laptop over to the bed and plug away some more with 3DS.  I must say I\'m falling in love with the program.  I\'m just hoping that I\'ll be able to produce some objects/textures worthy of being put in PS =).  Also I\'ll be idling on IRC from now on, so anyone that wants to can catch me on there.

Well so much for the offical drivers, it made things worse!  Thanks for your quick reply too Androgos, here is some info.

CPU: Intel P4 3.2 ghz HT
Chipset: SiS 648FX
Memory: 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
Videocard: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 (M10)
Videocard Driver: Omega (3rd-party) 2.5.67

Also, in terms of Planeshift dev, I am interested in creating 2D art/textures as well as updating/adding content/automation scripts/etc for the website.

I\'ve done 3D work for a Half-Life mod project in the past as well (using MilkShape 3D), but I\'m not totally confident in my ability to do 3D work atm.  However, if there is a need for 3D art, feel free to give me an example of an object(s) and I will make a demo.

Plus I\'d like to get to know all of the developers (esp. the Italian ones, as I\'m an Italian-American, but sadly only know enough Italian to ask for more bread and for the location of the bathroom).

Edit:  Hmm, thx Mogura... well I\'m going to do all that I can to change that =).

Hey all - first off, I played Planeshift a couple of years ago, when there was really nothing at all!  That was on my old P2 400 with a Voodoo 3 card, and everything worked great.  Fast forward to today,  I have a good laptop and some free time so I though I\'d offer to join the Planeshift development team for some graphics works (which I have done, although I haven\'t heard anything back yet =p).  Only problem now is, I cannot get the game to run higher than 0.10 or so fps.

I have a Radeon Mobility 9600 card with the latest Omega (3rd party) drivers.  Now I\'ve never had trouble with GL support in the past, in fact my drivers love OpenGL and I like to use it instead of DirectX when possible.  I really want to be able to help out with the development, so I\'m going to try the offical drivers (busted my laptop last time I tried x.x), even if I cannot play other games.

In the meantime, if anyone has any ideas on what I might be able to do to fix this problem, please let me know.  Much thx. - Tony
