I got this quest, but didn't get the item he was supposed to give me (the clue). Maybe I should have clicked on the "give" button to get this item? Anyway, I can't make him restart his speech, or restart / discard this quest, so I'm stuck.

General Discussion / Re: VERSION 0.3.020 - WHAT IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU?
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:51:49 pm »
I've downloaded the linux version in about 2 or 3 hours (but there were fewer people).
Now I've just started to d/l the windows version with bittorrent, and it said it's downloading at 300 KB/s, the download will be over in 12 minutes... So the problem is probably  from your connection or your settings.

The game startup / loading was quite slow in the previous version, now it's loading very quickly, it's a nice improvement. The drawback is the nice loading screen cannot be admired as long as before ;)

don't use the update, it seems it's downgrading from 0.20 to 0.19 after you've installed the 0.20 version. I've experienced the same.

There are several issues, on linux at least :

1/ I've d/l the whole 0.3.020 installer, and installed on top of the previous version. Maybe it erased everything, anyway, the account informations (account name and password) were missing. The game was very slow, so I've erased the whole folder and made a completely new install (system wide install).

But many textures and plugins are still missing :
Quote
crystalspace.pluginmgr.loadplugin:
  could not load plugin 'crystalspace.graphics3d.shader.glcg'
  could not load plugin 'crystalspace.graphics3d.shader.glcg'

planeshift.application.client:
  PSLoader: step 2: success

crystalspace.maploader.parse.image:
Could not open image file '/this/art/effects/target.dds' on VFS!

crystalspace.maploader.parse.texture:
Could not load texture 'target', using checkerboard instead
  [node: library,textures,texture(name=target)]

planeshift.application.client:
  PSLoader: step 3: success
   32996 <src/common/util/psxmlparser.cpp:282 ParseFile>
32996 Could not find file: /planeshift/world/gh_law/sound.xml
  PSLoader: step 4: success
Map hydlaa_common loaded successfully in 220ms

It was written during the startup : run the updater, maybe it was just some hints, but I've run the updater provided with the 0.3.020 version, and it downloaded many stuffs. I found it quite strange just after the new release, but after the update, it was downgraded to the 0.3.019 !

2/ About slowness : PlaneShift was running rather smoothly in the previous version. Now it's way to slow. The load on the system is too much : PS was said to use 120 % of the CPU, and the load was still increasing (above 3, which is very much) until I killed the application.

my system : 32 bits Debian, running 2.6.22 kernel with Nvidia drivers.

you need to have a bittorrent client installed on your system. Then it should propose you where you want to download the file.

just to tell you I've seen on http://www.planeshift.eu/wordpress/ that the bittorrent are ready for downloading the new release.
I'm currently downloading the linux version, and I'll continue to share it as long as possible. Use bittorrent as much as possible to ease the load of the http servers when the binaries will be available there.

a poll for this kind of question would have been nice...

I'm using Debian Sid and OpenSuse. And some Mac OS X too.

just to tell the installer has improved much since my 1st post, so now it seems to be very easy to install PlaneShift on linux :)

Even the 64bits plateforms are supported.

Sorry, I can\'t make this game working. It looks very good, but all I tried was useless.
I don\'t want to use the windows version
I\'ve downloaded the binaries provided.
I couldn\'t find any \"howto\" with the archive
I went on this forum and read many things related to the same problem I have (no library found etc.)
I made the links to the opengl libraries, I made the exports etc.
I\'ve d/l the full crystal space sources, compiled them correctly.

I realised after  \" solving \" all the previous errors I still get news, like this  libXxf86vm.so.1 missing.
The how to here looked good anyway :
 http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=6584&boardid=17&sid=355822c15a839bac3c8f9fa33511a938

I tried to get all rpm related to this, but after 7 or 8 servers refusing my connection or being down, I GAVE UP ! Some xshared rpm could be usefull, but they really look obsolete, and then impossible to find.

Unfortunately if it\'s not easier to install, people won\'t be much interested on this game. It\'s a pity. I understand we can\'t force you to make the game easier to install, and it\'s already really kind to make it for free, but it\'s very discouraging not to be able to install it.
