Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) /

I\'m surprised there isn\'t more backup for this idea, where are all the \"real\" roleplayers?

Of course there are problems with this project. Since many planeshift fans knows no other fans in their region it might be hard to assemble a group to play with. On the other hand, if this gets good it might attract more pen and paper roleplayers to the online community, which would be a great addition.

Another, according to me, very important condition to get this project underway is that much more information of the planeshift universe is released. Otherwise I think it will be hard for planeshifters to convince their roleplaying groups to start playing planeshift.

And how would the game look with an extremely sophisticated alchemy system but a very simple combat one? The features available in the tech demo should be simple versions of the features planned for the \"final game\". (It won\'t really be a final game)

You are talking about quantity not quality, Themerion. Adding more monsters of the same type won\'t improve quality of playing, it will only make it easier for powergamers to level. It wouldn\'t be realistic to put the same monsters everywhere, like putting sewer rats on the fields, and maximum realism is one of the primary goals of Planeshift. Realism is quality. Adding new monsters would require the 3D department, which is very small considering the amount of work it has to do, to shift focus from recruiting. The purpose isn\'t to make the game as good as possible tomorrow but to make it as good as possible in the long run.

Isn\'t a great part of the uniqueness of Planeshift\'s magic system based on you having to experiment with different glyph combinations to find spells? Don\'t ask for descriptions, Themerion. Aske more skilled mages or look in books when they are implemented if you don\'t want to experiment.

Crystal Blue is a tech demo, as said before. It has no greater need for balance or the ability to entertain people for more than a few hours.

Why does tons of newbies try to influence the order of what is to be implemented first? The devs are already working in as high pace they want and are able too. Be certain that more monsters will be added when the team has implemented what they have planned to implement before adding more monsters.

The monsters should not be the number one priority, they should implement elements that doesn\'t yet exist at all before adding more of them. Otherwise, Planeshift might seem like a hack & slash game and not a roleplaying game, which would be terrible.

And you think the town guards would allow monsters to sneak around just outside the town walls? Planeshift is developing towards a realistic roleplaying environment, and no step should be taken in the wrong way. Besides the fields are the buffer between Hydlaa and \"the end of the world\". If entry to the fields would be allowed a new \"buffer area\" would have to be created. So do not think this is a simple temporary solution.

The above discussion is about guilds being active without playing CB. We are \"showing off\" in public, anyone can check our website. All of us are just not very intersted in playing the tech demo for hours and hours, it is not really a good roleplaying environment yet and all you can do is leveling up the few skills implementd at the moment. We are no secret society, just try to hide the arcane tower. :D (Might be possible with some VERY powerful enchantment, though...)

Besides you seem to be obsessed by secret guilds at the moment, Themerion. If you still are guildless after a couple of months I will assume that you have created a secret Twilight Guild of your own.  :P

Good! The way it is now you can skip the death realm or transport yourself back Hydlaa Plaza from where ever you are by taking advantage of /spawn.

By the way I like Mozilla Firefox too. =)

A cartographer skill is planned to be implemented some time in the future. But how would a new player afford a map? In medieval times paper (and the earlier parchment) was expensive and it was harder to make good maps since there was no way to fly. In Yliakum we have, or at least will have pterosaurs, but the cost of breeding, holding and feeding such creatures only adds to the cost of map making. I think a good map of an area would cost at least 1000 trias. After all cartographers have to live too. The way I see it, maps are nothing for newborn characters.

Why can\'t new characters just ask other people for the way. Also, I am sure NPC\'s will be able to answer such questions in some time.

I agree. It didn\'t take me too long to get approximately what I wanted either but it didn\'t correspond well at all to the background I had already decided on. For example I picked \"lived in lemur village\" and \"and born in temple of Laanx\" just because it gave me cheap magic ranks. But according to my profile I grew up at my family mansion and no special circumstances surrounded my birth. It would be much better if people whom, like me, already has their character profile ready was able to create his or her character in the Molecular Blue fashion.

Yes, I would like the option to just pick stats like in MB and maybe write my own background and characteristics. The risk is that those who have no idea of their characters\'s background goes for this option because it is more simple and more powerful for powergamers. Maybe you should be given less CP if you chooses to pick your skills from a list, that would discourage powergamers and non-roleplayers from creating characters without depth.

You can always make one and see if they like it. But don\'t expect to get an order.  :D

Hmm, well... You would need sound and graphics from the devs, of course.

Wish list / Char Creation System
« on: December 26, 2004, 03:44:54 am »
I made this thread to discuss the new character creation system. In my opinion it is brilliant for some but annoying for others.

If you are actually creating your character during the in-game creation process and haven\'t thought of background, characteristics, skills and so on the system is great. It helps you with all of this and adds a lot of life and depth to your character. :))

On the other hand, if you have already made up your characters profile with a background, characteristics and a plan on what skills to use, the creation system is annoying. In that case you just want to pick your skills from a list and go on playing without getting furious that the game doesn\'t support the background and skills you want. :(

I don\'t really know if it is a good solution to give the option to just pick skills from a list instead. It might encourage power gamers, and I at least wouldn\'t  like that. But the serious roleplayers whom already have their profiles ready can easily get annoyed of this system. It is very nicely done though, and very original. Especially considering it is propably far from finnished. Keep it up devs!

I am eager to hear your opinions on the character creation system.
