Agreed. I feel as long as that person is not annoying which is really just relative then they should be allowed to stay.

What rules? I have yet to see any rules on how one should act on the server. I see strict rules on how to make a guild. I even see rules on how one should act on this forum. Where are the rules for playing this game? Am i the only one that can not find at the very least baseline rules?

I have played several games where even the rules were up to interpretation. Not having any rules makes that infinate worse. For example just look at Moogies\' and Karyuu\'s response to the same question (no offense to either one). Both of whom i believe are GMs. Both of whom have completely different answers. HAHA! Imagine in real life if a police department was implemented before any laws were made. This situation will get much more messy before it is resolved as long as there are no official rules in place. Even if they are baseline.

Anyways, I am going to try to recompile the CVS. If it doesn\'t work then so be it. I am not going to spend too much time on it. Especially considering the rules probably change as each GM signs on and off.  I doubt this is a game i really want to play as long as that happens.

People who want to stay and see a change whether it is for or against non rpers really need to start putting pressure on the people at the top to put in Official server rules. You can then have at the very least have a baseline rules to go by. Right now you have are a bunch of people saying what they think is the rules but nothing official. Nothing is really getting done.

Have a nice day :)

The fact is, that they have been tolerated by commercial games because money is more important for them, but in PS, the emphasis is on RP, not money.
Just as ego-shooters aren\'t meant for RP, MMORPGs aren\'t meant for powerlevelling, and the players of each have every right to demand that everyone either accepts that or leaves.

Summarising, \"we RPers\" don\'t hate powerlevellers or 1337ers, we just don\'t want them in PS, because it\'s not the right game for them, and they destroy it for everyone for whom it is the right game. They can go destroy commercial games, but not PS.

I truly understand about what you are saying. However this is not truly about RPing but really about how things are presented to the public. This was presented like any other mmorpg but it is not. There is no reference on the front page stating one must role play. There is no reference in the Players Guide stating one must role play. I see no reference that i must role play until i hit a topic such as this.  If that is the wish of the community then i would think the webmaster, the person writing up the Player\'s Guide, or even the game itself would have mentioned this. I believe that is a grave oversite on their part and not thinking of the wishes of the community which does not want 1337 n00bs, power levelers, or any other non role player. Don\'t you think so also? I hope they change this soon to avoid any other problems from non role players regardless if they are or are not 1337 n00bs or power levelers. Both of which i do not consider myself as a gamer.

If it is the wishes of the developers to have non-role players by not mentioning them on the front page or the Players Guide then you guys need to work with them, the non role players.

Any way you look at it the people writing the Player\'s Guide, the webpage, and possibly the code are not in sync with the community\'s wishes. I fear for this community if that continues. I also believe many more of this similar topic will be discuss in the future.

I do want to apologize for the brownshirt comment.  However i believe no one should be told how to act or play a game. That is why the people who are running the show (webmaster, coders, others) should make aware to other people what they are getting involved with when they download this game. That they must role play or be in jeapordy of being banned.

No, it\'s firmly understood that there\'s only going to be one cluster of servers, which means only one world. There won\'t be seperate servers for RP\'ers, powerlevelers, etc.

Which is why it is imperative that the RPers stop acting like brownshirts and start trying to coexist with the other players. I have yet on this board to see a persons who does not RP start a topic that express as much hate as the topics started by the RPers towards the other playing styles. I have also yet to see in the Player\'s Guide or this website an official rule that state that one must always role play while on the server. It being implied is not good enough for me.

I think it is great people have different ways to play a game therefore i do not hate role players. I however hate people who tell me how i should and shouldn\'t play a game. Unfortunately, they are the same people on this board.

Actually this game was touted as a mmoRPG. I also did not see anything in the Player\'s Guide or this website that explicitly state that i must RP while in the game. Although i did not specifically look for that.

You will see why i asked the differences between a RPer and RPGer. I believe that RPGers encompass all people and their playing style who play role playing games. My line of thinking is that RPers are just a part of all RPGers. I also believe that any game, Monopoly to Planeshift, can be role played. Some may disagree and get frustrated when a person doesn\'t do as they wish. Hence topics such as this one.

As i said in the Anti-d00d topic, I believe a game that has many different styles playing the game it will be better off than one that has only one or two. This game is no different.

A topic very similar to this one is being played out on another game forum. One post there begs me to ask people here a question or two.

What do you feel is the fundamental difference between RPers and RPGers? That is Role-Players and Role-Playing Gamers. Also what role does each have in the game of Planeshift, if any? I am sure some people scanning this forum deciding if this is a game worth dowloading would also like to know.

I am with Draklar on this one. I also avoid camping the Plaza which sometimes can have almost half of the servers population there. Not only do i avoid the lag from my system trying to draw/recieve all the people there, I also avoid this problem.

I am suprised no one has mentioned the /ignore function. I have yet to use it but i am sure it works.

I hope they don\'t have the spawn time set to the same amount of time as they have now. You would not be standing in the same spot like you do now for rats. It would take hours for that mine deposit to reappear.

Mining would be more of \"on the way to doing quest X i found some ore deposit on the side of the road and mined\" instead of sitting for hours at place Y and type \'/dig\' or click your mouse.

As for the money problem, maybe more drops or better drops from the enemies? More money from completing a quest? Increased price from ore? I did find it interesting that i got more trias from a rat than gold ore (6 = rat pelts + 1 = rat eye, 6 = gold ore). Money wise it makes no sense to mine gold ore. I am not sure how much trias you got for Platinum because i never found it.

I don\'t think it has to be that hard. Just have it similar to the way they have it in World of Warcraft. Sorry but i feel the way they have it is very hard to bot and noticable when it is botted. Have mine deposits/rocks spring up randomly which should be no more harder to script than the enemy spawn script. Once a player sees the deposit it just has to type \'/dig\'. There is no need for /dig gold or /dig iron. The resources will be assigned a number according to their rarity. iron = 10, gold = 20, and platinum = 30.

Once the /dig command is executed a random number between 1-20 is generated which is added to your level. This then determines what you mine. On a roll where you can either get 1 gold or 2 iron this would be assigned randomly via another roll. Higher the level in mining the ability to mine rarer resources increases. This would make leveling up more rewarding.

An example of this would be a level 10 miner executes /dig and gets a 10. This ten is added to his level to get twenty. The twenty could then be split two ways: 2 irons or 1 gold. Another random number between 0-1 give a 0 so i get 2 irons. If i got a 1 then i would have recieved the 1 gold. This would only get more difficult as the number of levels and resources increase.

They way they have it now is very easy to bot. Too easy if you ask me. A guy running from ore deposit to ore deposit for an extend amount of time is sure to get the attention of not only the GM but the other players. A player hiding behind a rock botting is not.

couldn\'t have said it better myself. :)  After reading some post here i doubt if some of you can handle the power. Which in all fairness, power combined with rudeness is the real reason people hate \'d00ds\'. Rudeness is in every playing style. I know i could pull some rude remarks from this forum made by some hardcore RPers. Rudeness plus power is definately a bad combination. I am sure you will agree.

I am sure if the d00d from the first post would have partied up the group things would have turned out differently. Also someone would not have something to complain about. KeWl d00d would have killed the monster in two hits and the party would have shared the loot. What is bad about that? (eventhough i think it is more fun to have a longer battle)

I am sure if your government system is implimented you will have many people complaining. Whether it is from abuse of power or getting targeted because of their playing style. It will be compounded if most if not all the \'senators\' are friends. Who is going to go against a friend? Also who is going to stop these group of friends or senators from abusing thier power if the GM and senators are friends? That is why i think a fair, patient, and understanding GM is more valuable than a bunch of friends wielding power. That is where they step into the realm of d00dism (according to some who have posted here).

I am not writing this post to defend \'d00ds\' but to say that all playing styles belong in the game. I also believe people regardless of their playing style should be helpful to other players. If that means going OOC then so be it. I have to go OOC everytime i \'try\' to complete one of the quest on PS so going OOC to help someone is not out of the question.

While i agree with some points i believe most of it is flawed. I will not be writing my dissertation tonight so it will be short and generalized. A healthy gaming community needs a variety of playing style playing the game. A game needs hardcore RPers for it to feel real. Why does you feel like you are immersed into the game? Thank the Hardcore RPers. A game need Powergamers to advance the game. Do you think you would get a \'Sword of Slaying +30\' from discussing the political system of your guild? No, you get it from a player playing to be the best and advancing the content. A game also need a cheater/exploiter. These are most helpful when they are either caught or report the cheat/exploit. Without these and possibly a few more playing styles i am sure the community and the game would become stagnant.

I will agree no community needs griefers but should be prepared for such threats. I doubt a committee would be needed because it will not work. Do you really believe a person will stay around while someone holds senate? sorry but they won\'t. Their main objective is to ruin your fun. Once they accomplish that they leave. I believe a /kick or /ban from a GM would work just fine and be more effective.

I also dislike people who talk in \'l337 sp34k\'. However i allow no one to ruin my time online so i just ignore it. I recommend people to do the same. (/ignore is your friend)

I also play to so I have fun. I don\'t play so other people can have fun.

anyways..that is my opinion and thoughts on a gaming community.

I think this is to be expected. Yes some of my skills were decreased but i don\'t mind. People need to remember that this is still a work in progress. The developers did not do this on purpose and i am sure are trying to find what happened. The best i could say is not get too attached to your skills or you character during any game testing phase not just this game.

I was going to say this in the \"quest system\' topic but decided to post it here because it is more appropriate. I believe that the NPCs in addition to the their name should also have a title. The Enky near the tavern should under it\'s name have \'Weapon Trainer\'. It doesn\'t need to be fancy and can be for merchants and other trainers. I believe this would direct attention to this NPC.

I figure the quests are broken in this release or i am not saying the right phrase after collecting some gold ore. Anyways, the developers should not rely on this one sentence \"key\" to unlock or finish the quest as you have pointed out Miya. A quest system like what most rpg\'s have would suffice. Even saying \'hi\' to the NPC which unlocks the dialog to quest, history, or other information is better than the current system. A quick check of the inventory would unlock a different set of dialog if this NPC was a quest-giver.

I believe the system that Miya proposed would allevate much frustation on both parts. One, the player getting the quest would not spend 1 to 2 hours trying to figure out the proper dialog. Two, the forumgoers here would not be frustrated by having to read post such as \'I cant finish , what do i do?!\' several times over.

As Miya said..that is only my opinion.
