Hmm I thought that was an XP bug. This fix is for Win98 and WinME with the broken updater. If this is what you have, You don\'t need to read it to do the hack in the folder. Check your video resolution. Maybe if you drop your resolution a bit you may be able to read it. No real need to read it if you followed the instructions, though.

Yeah I can\'t say for every browser, I\'m only using Firefox. You said the pwd isn\'t working so I figure you are getting the pop-up for name/pwd. Just type them into the correct fields and it should accept.

Try again. I just now used the name and pwd and downloaded one of the files.  No issues with the login or access.

COMMAND.COM hanging on your Win32 machine?

Ok I got it to work with win32 (98SE). Here is the 10 step program:

1. start the updater and let it run until COMMAND.COM hangs after it downloads the updater.zip into the PS folder

2. unzip updater.zip into a new folder.

3. remove all the old files and replace them with the new ones from the new folder.

4. remove this list of dll files:
libcurl.dll
glwin32.dll
csbmpimg.dll
csddsimg.dll
csgifimg.dll
csjngimg.dll
csjpgimg.dll
rendstep_std.dll
reporter.dll
stdrep.dll
libjpeg-cs.dll
libpng-cs.dll
libmng-cs.dll

5. Download these files (list from above) from http://laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/win32  n/pwd: psteam p1ane (as found in the updaterconfig.xml file in the PS folder)

6. Move/Copy&Paste them into the PS folder

7. run the PS updater again.

8. Run the Client and log in.

9. Fall off the end of the world... nm (fixed?)

10. If you still get the COMMAND.COM hang, look at what dll it was downloading and repeat step 5 for that dll. That was all I needed to replace in that list.

Originally posted by Monketh Yeah, you have to move the files as they come up sometimes, then exit the updater and kill command.com (winoldap in the taskmanager).
Move it to a subdirectory or new directory and it should start again.

Yeah I did that but it kept hanging during the download of that dll each time. I moved the dll and it kicked out an long error text file concerning this but posting it here was not needed. I\'ll try again this evening, now that I can get to the patch site with the name/pwd and find those dll\'s so it will skip downloading them. That should work. Thx

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Linux client download?
« on: January 02, 2005, 12:39:45 pm »
I have not run PS in a long time. I\'m trying to run it under win98SE but the updater does not work from the 2 day old downloaded client and I have found no working fix here yet (it worked last night).

Anyway, there used to be a Linux version of the CS client but the link I found here is dead. Is the Linux CS client still alive and well? I run Mandrake and would like a download link to a current version of CS for Linux.
Thx

OK did both above but could not log into the update server to get the files.

Decided to unpack the updater.zip by hand since it kept failing to open under Dos with 98SE and I removed the old files and moved the new files into the directory. Ran the updater once again and it is now updating with the 15 megs of files from the server. ... nm it got to the csbmpimg.dll and tried to run command.com which hung again. Maybe there will be an auto fix for this someday? Or a fix example that is less obscure?

Yeah, I had the same problem tonight. Last night it worked fine. I\'m doing this with a 98SE system since my XP system is underpowered for PS. I run Linux on this puter too but don\'t really want XP on this system.  I also tried the link provided by Monketh but I cant find the name+pwd in the xml file.
