REQUEST:
« on: January 02, 2005, 04:15:25 am »
WIN98/ME users.  For getting around parts where the updater stops dead and brings up Command.Com

Quote

I think I managed to get around a few of the hangs.  For:
csbmpimg.dll
csddsimg.dll
csgifimg.dll
csjngimg.dll*
csjpgimg.dll*
rendstep_std.dll
reporter.dll
stdrep.dll

By moving them to a new folder.

However: libcurl.dll is absolutely necessary to the updater\'s operation, so...

*I may have thrown these in the folder for good measure, figuring they would trip the updater as well.

So, uh...  Can we have that libcurl.dll and the other hanging dll\'s?  Please?
-Monketh
Edit: Oops, I meant the the title to be \"REQUEST: Dll\'s for update\"

-Move the movers into a different folder.
-Go to the update server to download the dll\'s on the shopping list.

Shopping List
libcurl.dll
glwin32.dll

Movers
csbmpimg.dll
csddsimg.dll
csgifimg.dll
csjngimg.dll
csjpgimg.dll
rendstep_std.dll
reporter.dll
stdrep.dll
libjpeg-cs.dll
libpng-cs.dll*

*Note: After Moving libpng-cs, the GUI will dissappear.  Don\'t freak out, just bring your cursor up from below the window and click \"update\".

That should do it.
G\'night folks.
-Monketh

[Edit]

But wait, there\'s more!

Supplemental Shopping List
cssynldr.dll
engine.dll
freefnt2.dll
shadermgr.dll
imgplex.dll
libfreetype2-cs.dll
libz-cs.dll
xmlread.dll
xmlshader.dll
xmlparse.dlll
vfs.dll
gl3d.dll

Ahh... a Win98/ME hacker.

goto http://laanx.fragnetics.com/updater_hidden/win32

This is the update server... username+password can be found in updaterconfig.xml in your planeshift directory.

EDIT: ...and finally you still need to copy libz-cs.dll to libwapi.dll (do NOT rename, copy it!).
RE-EDIT: libwapi.dll ist solved with last update, nothing has to be done there anymore.

OK did both above but could not log into the update server to get the files.

Decided to unpack the updater.zip by hand since it kept failing to open under Dos with 98SE and I removed the old files and moved the new files into the directory. Ran the updater once again and it is now updating with the 15 megs of files from the server. ... nm it got to the csbmpimg.dll and tried to run command.com which hung again. Maybe there will be an auto fix for this someday? Or a fix example that is less obscure?

Yeah, you have to move the files as they come up sometimes, then exit the updater and kill command.com (winoldap in the taskmanager).
Move it to a subdirectory or new directory and it should start again.

I was having this problem so I moved everything and downloaded the two files and I copyed the one file, but I was still getting a window that popped up when i ran the updater.

I couldn\'t see the name of the file it hung up on because all the words were blurred together from there being no background so I put libpng-cs.dll back in the main folder so i could see the background and the updater ran without any problems.

If anyone else has the same problem, moving libpng-cs.dll back may help.

Yeah I did that but it kept hanging during the download of that dll each time. I moved the dll and it kicked out an long error text file concerning this but posting it here was not needed. I\'ll try again this evening, now that I can get to the patch site with the name/pwd and find those dll\'s so it will skip downloading them. That should work. Thx

If you are using Win 98, Win ME update check this:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=12891&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=f114ca40e5bd61c614ecde8b3be9a10d

And search for text \"I just tested this with Win98 (OEM, first edition)\"... it works to update Win98, WinME.

EDIT: Link updated... it was really not correct.

Ok I got it to work with win32. Here is the 10 step program:

1. start the updater and let it run until COMMAND.COM hangs after it downloads the updater.zip into the PS folder

2. unzip updater.zip into a new folder.

3. remove all the old files and replace them with the new ones from the new folder.

4. remove this list of dll files:
libcurl.dll
glwin32.dll
csbmpimg.dll
csddsimg.dll
csgifimg.dll
csjngimg.dll
csjpgimg.dll
rendstep_std.dll
reporter.dll
stdrep.dll
libjpeg-cs.dll
libpng-cs.dll
libmng-cs.dll

5. Download these files from the update FTP site as shown form an above post.

6. Move/Copy&Paste them into the PS folder

7. run the PS updater again.

8. Run the Client and log in.

9. Fall off the end of the world... nm

10. If you still get the COMMAND.COM hang, look at what dll it was downloading and repeat step 5 for that dll. That was all I needed to replace in that list.
