The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: I'm moving on with my life!!!!!

Take care, Agara.  I do still read my old chat logs from time to time and yours are always there, cheerful and supportive.  You've made many friends here and we're sad to see you go.  At the same time, life must go on.. and no one should remain rooted forever; change is part of our nature.  So, have fun, be well and try not to forget your RP roots.  Stop by for a visit once in a while, even if just on the forums.  You have my best wishes.

Any further thoughts on crafting?

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Any old players still around?
« on: November 13, 2008, 09:00:57 am »
Some old players and devs are still lurking, it seems, Clover.  Some old names dropped here, like Kada, Daireve, Golbez, Gronomist, Aelya, Kixie, Kwartz were active back when I'd already been here a while and I wonder where they are now.  Good to see CadRipper, Kiern, Moogie, Link, Draklar, Seperot and Zetsumei, too (and Zet's crystals).  ;)

I also remember Atomic Blue, was here before that was released.  Had some good times over at Kada's Tavern; I do miss that site (and her).

I also miss some fellow devs that moved on: Boonet, MatzeB, Artician, Washi, Kendaro, Paxx, ParaSite, Kahlisi, Firestorm, Avatar, Thekkur, Whitti, BinaryReject, Bigfoot, GeorgeD, Ellarion, Galendan, Icebolt, tangerine, StonedBones.

Indeed, the loss of a founding father in the gaming world is a hard blow.  My imagination and creativity grew by leaps and bounds due to this game and its many descendants.  His presence will be missed.  I regret never being able to meet him in person.

General Discussion / Re: New Religions?
« on: October 05, 2007, 08:21:08 am »

Indeed there have been plans for this and more hanging about for several years, actually.  The original religion docs date back to at least 2005, including Dakkru.  There is a plan and it is being followed.  Changes/improvements may be made here and there, but its overall structure remains intact.  As has been said before, the little everyone has seen/experienced thus far is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

(Yes, I am still here.)

General Discussion / Re: In game languages
« on: November 11, 2006, 12:53:50 am »
The whole reason behind these languages is that they are developed from our races in our game world.  Sindarin was built from Tolkien's world and is part of its history and is integrated with its cultures.  We might be able to borrow some concepts for the language base, but any languages in PS should be our own.  With that, I can probably plan on (sometime in the future) developing some basic stuff for the various racial languages.  Not all races will have their own languages outside the common tongue.  This is also something that's not top priority, so it will likely be a while before anything is done or released.  I do, however, appreciate the interest this has generated.  :)

I think it's time I step in.

Enkien is a language I began developing while designing several hundred Enkis for Ojaveda a couple years ago.  At first, it was a simple smattering of a few words to mix into the common tongue in order for them to retain and display pride in their native culture.  It has since grown into what it is today, and is still growing.  I see nothing wrong with players using this language in-game, as long as other players don't feel ostracized by it (i.e.- using it exclusively in order to separate yourself/group from the rest).

I do come on IRC from time to time and drop a few words or phrases, which tends to cause confusionfor those who don't know and elation for those who know what it is and recognize it.  Overuse in-game is very frowned upon, but feel free to sprinkle words/phrases in your RP.

Here are some additions to what's been posted so far:

Mo samoti da rrrive topatendho - I am thankful that here you have arrived anyway.  (thankful you are here/have gotten here)
Mo dhorreti ento dhorretolo siino tonphrren - My language and your language are not similar
Ashreto-de - too bad/a shame
Noti venna dhorrhet - you don't know the language I speak
Not'Eso sebhtolo - you're welcome
Joh tiishme? - what is wrong?
Joh tiishmolo? - what is wrong with you?
Dajiil - indeed
Ajha - sure/okay
bonnhetolo - good for you
phonweh - place
jhu phonweh - this place
gwa - why
osghet - quiet
du - so/very
vaatholo - idiot (you)
vaatjho - idiot (general)
osghet - quiet
osghetholo - quiet, you; you be quiet
Taajho - stranger

This is still not everything, but represents 90% of it.  Have fun.  :)

The ability for players to train players is not only already possible, but is in use now in-game.  Those with the ability are a rare occurrence at the moment, as I\'m still trying to figure out how to best make this work and minimize the things that can go wrong with it.  It is not something that can be attained by any player yet through game mechanics, it must be manually assigned by an admin.  It also does not work as dynamically now as I\'d like for it to.  This will be a WIP for some time yet, but I think it will come eventually.  Player trainers will be scarce, as I don\'t think it should be handed to just anyone who wants to.  Sort of like hidden masters that train beyond NPC ability or train obscure/rare skill aspects that can\'t be obtained anywhere else.  This can also be an avenue for impromptu player-made quests in exchange for said special training.

Details on player training will not be forthcoming anytime soon; those who watch the codebase commits will probably know before the rest of you when support for this gets implemented.  Key words there being \"not.. ..soon\".  ;)

The skills that can presently be trained are limited by the NPC\'s abilities.  If you want to train higher, you\'ll need to find an NPC with better skills.

NPC limitations on training skills will stay.  They will, however, be greatly varied in their limitations.

(Ex: a lowly city guard may only train low levels of Sword, while a remotely hidden Master may train to very high levels.  Challenge in finding trainers should equal possible gains.)

1992 Dodge Neon SXT.

A few months ago I bought my wife a 2004 Ford Focus.  Not my type of car, but she thinks it\'s \"cute\", so... 2 cars, technically.  I drive the Dodge almost exclusively.
