1) A gobble killed me but it took sometime before it was realizing that I was dead. It was like stuck a bit on 0% without do anything
2) I end up in the DR and I was lying on the floor. I moved, and I was still lying on the floor
3) I contacted a GM, that kindly told me that a solution could have been to quit and restart the client. I did it and it worked.

Yeah, known bug, however the first one is new and interesting. I\'ve never heard of everyone being dead.

did a restart fix that as well?

no need to add a new character though.
i edited my planeshift.cfg and set the visibility of the info window to false:
PlaneShift.GUI.InfoWindow.Visible = false

Thats even better! I tried editing the info widget in data\\gui, but it didn\'t work, so this obviously accomplishes what I originally tried to do.

quick note: after I updated to yesterday\'s release it happened again, but the fix worked again, and haven\'t had trouble since. So there\'s obviously something with these characters that is still messed up somewhere server side, but  we cannot know what that is without access to the DB. Perhaps a dev can look at it.

Oh, and Thanks for your help ferreting out this problem Jabren. And congrats on the appointment to GM. And thanks to whoever was giving advice to Jabren while we were working on it. You remained unnamed so, I can\'t give you props like I should.... Hope you read this.

no, it\'s a fix. once you finish it\'s actually fixed

a work around would be a way to continue using the character even though hes broken. you use a workaround to get to a point where you can fix it, then you fix it, then it\'s.......

fixed.

and who said waste a slot? if you already have another char, use him, if not make one that you plan on using one day.

I never said make a pos waste of a slot char.

and you can reload till hell freezes over and it wont fix the db on the server.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / FIX FOR UBER LAG
« on: January 23, 2005, 04:05:48 am »
OK, here\'s how to fix the uber lag/0.0 framerate problem that some of us are experiencing.

The problem as I have observed it is due to a corruption in the database. In your info window when you are looking at the effected character, note that your stats are all messed up. not just the fps, but something else too. for me it was my progression points, and my experience points, I was displaying something like 618,000 pp, and something like 617 million experience points. This apparently is just too much leetness for the game to handle, and the entire world just freezes in your presence.

However, if the info window is closed, aparently the game doesn\'t know it\'s borked and therefor you can play normally (semi)

What you need to do is create a different character if you don\'t already have one.  while in that character, close the info window, as the window states are client side. This will cause the info window to be close on your effected character, and you will be able to log into and use him/her.

From here you need to fix your database corruption. Pretty simple really, the game keeps the value of your pp in multiple parts of the db, so when you train, or fight a mob or whatever, it takes the good info from a different part of the db and overwrites the messed up value.

Now you can go ahead and open your info window again and play normally.

All fixed!!!

have fun!

the widgets are the windows and objects of the windows that you see in game.

all the control bars etc are \"widgets\"

I would delete your data\\gui folder and update

that should reload all your \"widgets\"

hope it works.

Well I figured it out. I can explain what is causing the problem but not how to fix it.

It is defenitely a corruption in the database.

in my stats window it reads

fps: 0.0
experience: 617280151
and progression points 618,219

when my stats window is open (the one with the attack postures, health bars etc) my game lags like heck, when it\'s closed i can move around freely. It too in game help with gms to find this out, but that\'s what it is. defenitely.

I opened my stats window to see if the stats were fixed when I was able to move again and the game instantly borked again.

so if you can play without the dang window open I would suggest that.

at least till a better fix is available.

I have no idea how my info window got closed to begin with, it just happened and I was able to move.

but when it opened again it was broke again...

I\'ll toy around with my data\\gui stuff and try setting the window to invisible or something. I\'ll post the results.

PS is in \"alpha\" and although the game has the capacity for this, it\'s probably not implemented into a useable feature yet.

You might be able to tweak the configs to make it work somehow, I personally don\'t know.

And the meaning of life is..... 23.

Anyway, this is kinda like the bug of mobs always having \"1%\" left when you select them. Even though it\'s obviously actually 100% judging by their health bar.

I wonder if you could quantify how many hp they actually had as a number you would see... *drumroll* 23.

Yeah, I know, but even a \"me too\" so we know whether or not it\'s isolated can be useful to the people who do the code crunching around here.

Short meaningless posts such as \"me too\" are deleted. This isn\'t a chatroom, it\'s a message forum. People who are able to help you with your problem WILL see this thread and WILL help you. Unfortunately we didn\'t have enough to spend on personal waiters for each and every member, so like the rest of us, you\'ll just have to wait patiently for replies. :)

Hmmm, how bout, \"i\'m having the same problem?\"
or
\"this happened to me too\"

Too short?

So the devs don\'t need to know if problems are isolated or not? You might wanna check with them on that.

These are all rhetorical questions. I\'m pretty sure I know how your going to answer.

No need to be venomous about it. Just stating the obvious.

short does not necessarily equal meaningless.

Oh, and no personal waiters? *gasp* I want my FREE back!.  /sarcasm

I\'m just trying to help provide information about this problem moogie.

By the way are there any specific settings about characters in any files client side?

OK, update:

I created a new character and the problem is non existant on him. I\'m guessing it\'s a problem with some sort of corruption in the player database that occured between yesterday and today.

Might wanna break out the database tools and do a consistency check or something.

That of course would mean bringing down the server completely while you do it.

This actually makes sense with the obvious problem with the mob server, and the mobs reading 1 health when they are at 100, and the anomalous \"dummy no attack\" items popping up. seems like some heavy duty database maintenance is in order.

All these things may or may not be connected but it\'s rather odd that they are all happening at the same time.

Yeah, if your patient enough you can wait for the game to crash, and it will offer you the option of making a \"dump file\" which is a description of what went wrong that the devs can use to fix the problem. You can post it to a web page somewhere if you have space, and make a link to it in your post.

simular

Is that like Nucular?

Not to derail or anything, but Guys I think George Bush is playing this game with us....

Hail to the chief!!

Anyway, back on track.

Just a note: the game does eventually crash if you are patient enough and wait for it to do so. It might be helpful to the propeller heads in here if you were patient and got a dump file to link in your posts.

To attach a dump, host the file somewhere on the Internet and then URL link it in a post.

I have no doubt we all read the same forums... after all I got 97 views to that thread before it was deleted. We just don\'t seem to respond.....

Here\'s my dump file
