If you happen to have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 or later (obtainable from java.sun.com), you can try this updater (as I\'ve mentioned in the past): Updater.jar (29k)

There has been an update to the client as of yesterday (07:23), so you can use the linked unofficial (and unrelated to the PS team) updater to fix the broken one. Just remember that if you do use the linked updater I\'m not liable for any negative results (I gotta say that for legal reasons ;) ). The alternative is to wait for an update to download from the main site and DL the whole thing again.
Or you could just use the whole --auto option.

Try it both outside and inside of any quotes. Remember you need a space between the .exe and --auto if inside the quotes, and between the quote and --auto if outside.

Reinstalling won\'t help because you\'ll have to update to be able to connect on the server and once you\'ve updated you\'ll have the latest version of the updater and such which is the one you currently have, so it\'ll start crashing all over again. (I believe.)

Instead, you should probably just try executing updater.exe --auto to update until it\'s fixed.

That is, right click on the Updater shortcut in start menu, select properties, and append \' --auto\' to the target box, while preserving the original contents. (Note the space before --auto.)

The updater should now work.

(Oh, and the normal updater crashes me. Only the --auto one will work.)

Try executing updater.exe --auto in the planeshift directory. To do this;

Right click on \'planeshift updater\' shortcut in the start menu.
Click Properties.
In the \'Target\' box, add --auto to the end of what is already in there without disturbing the existing contents. It should look something like:

\"C:\\Program Files\\Planeshift Crystal Blue\\Updater.exe\" --auto

Note the space between what was already in there and the \'--auto\' you appended.
Now attempt to run the updater again.

Dolphy, have you tried opening a command prompt (Start->Run->CMD on XP/2K or Start->Run->Command on 9x/ME), cd\'ing to the planeshift directory and typing psclient? That should execute the psclient but the DOS window should stay around so you can read it.

Which would result in you getting an old version of the updater and client, which is likely to be more buggy, and updating then would result in you getting the new version of the updater and client, which presumably exhibit the bugs you describe.

Nice, isn\'t it?

(The updater is crashing instantaneously for me also. Don\'t even think about the client.)

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / This isn't Beta.

No offense, but this is more open-Alpha, rather than open-Beta, considering the stability.
