Basically the sole purpose of high school is to get into a good college... Don\'t really focus on computer classes (unless you have a lot of free space) until college, you will have plenty of time there. Just pound down all the classes that you are required to freshman year of college, so you can test out and get to the fun stuff right away in college and maybe even graduate early.

And, by the way, there is a lot of math and science in technology. Math ranges from matricies to more complex vectors and things like that; however, it depends, if you use GUI apps for everything and do no engine work, then you may not need a lot of math.

Check out game programming as a career... It is one of the most admired in the computer industry. It incorporates everything: physics, art, math, science, architecture, social sciences, and a lot more. And it is ofcoarse a fun job ;) You have a lot of freedom, but you work under deadline pressure often. And, the field is very very competitive...

General Discussion / MMOG Article

I post this article not to discourage PlaneShift by any means... I love this game, and I can\'t wait until it is fully playable. Rather, as some things to consider during development, and a reminder to others of how much hard work goes into creating a game like this.  And I know all the points do not apply to PS, but some do.

Make sure you have your latest video card drivers installed. If its not that, then I am not sure.

Has a map of the PlaneShift world been created yet?

General Discussion / Server Speed
« on: November 27, 2002, 06:09:19 am »
As this is a game that relies on a centralized server, I cannot help but wonder if this will turn out like another Diablo 2, in which the server lags, and the moderators have little control over hacks.

I have two questions:

1. Are the current servers fast enough to easily handle the player load?

2. And, are there any plans to upgrade the servers via donations, or perhaps even having a free server and a pay server, with no difference in the game other than server speed?

Thanks,
Enum

General Discussion / My Opinion
« on: October 24, 2002, 05:30:34 am »
I think that we should borrow from RuneScape a bit, and implement a system in which a special area would be setup for members (who pay a small fee), however, there would be no super-items or outrageous benefits for members, so it would be more of an inticing donation in essence.

We could also perhaps run the members on a faster server if the idea of a members only zone does not work. But, the idea of having special weapons and stuff seems unfair because it would make the real world impact this world, which I do not think we should have.

That\'s just my opinion though...

Wish list / Set Prices

I think that the player should also get to set their own prices to make things more interesting, and to encourage competition among businesses. I think a sense of capitalism could set this game apart from others.

You should be able to hire an NPC to run a shop. You should, however, need to supply the stock for the shop, and set the sale and purchase prices for the goods you sell. And you should have to pay the NPC out of the shop earnings, however, or they\'ll quit.

Update your video card drivers, or try running it in software mode. If that doesn\'t work, perhaps you do have a virus :P
