General Discussion / Real n00b questions.
« on: January 22, 2006, 05:42:37 pm »
I finally got the Linux client working in Kubuntu and now I have actually created a character and visited the world.

I would have the following questions:
1. how do I open doors?
2. Do I get money somehow? Can I shop? How do I find a shop? I need some weapons, don\'t I?

I ended up with a female character, but thought I was getting a male. Maybe the picture was misleading since it warned there was no model for that race. It didn\'t seem possible to go back and give the character a sex change. Is it possible?

So far so good, Very good work. Impressive game. Good art. Good music.

Linux Specific Issues / Got client installed, now server is unreachable
« on: January 18, 2006, 06:14:48 pm »
Every time I start the client I get a short \"wait\" and then \"Fail 100\" next to where the server\'s name is.

When I try to log in, I get \"Server is not running or unreachable. Please check the website or forums for more details.\" I haven\'t been able to get in even once. Previously, I was able to get in and start selecting my character. I am running Kubuntu Breezy with a 2.6.15 kernel.

Everytime I try, the server seems to be up when I check laanx.fragnetics.com

Any advice?

General Discussion / Brillian music in the intro.
« on: January 14, 2006, 09:12:23 am »
I am just now getting this working, waiting for my password email to come. It has been nearly a year since I last tried to play with an adsl modem that wasn\'t working correctly.

I think this introduction music is brilliant. Whover has done this is quite an artist. I might try to find the ogg file for this in the art folder and put it on my player. (which plays ogg!)

Linux Specific Issues / Nevermind, found it

It was some 3D spatial audio related lib. Got it.

Now, if I could just remember my password - it has been a while.

I followed the instructions here in the Linux related forum for installer updates. Well, I can try to reinstall everything again. At least it is all already downloaded.

Linux Specific Issues / I got that part already.
« on: January 07, 2006, 11:19:14 pm »
Now I just installed the missing libsmpeg0c2 lib.

Now I just updated the updater and now I can\'t read it or see my mouse cursor when it is over the window.

I am not giving up yet, but this sure is one big mess. I will be glad to get it working and be in a mmorg again. I am running Kubuntu Breezy with the 2.6.14.5 kernel. (It was manually updated because of IDE/ATA problems)

Linux Specific Issues / Updater looks like this.
« on: January 07, 2006, 11:12:27 pm »
Why does the updater look like this? It happened
after I took the second update from the thread about updating the updater. Also the cursor disappears when over the window.

Linux Specific Issues / libsmpeg-0.4.so.0 missing
« on: January 07, 2006, 04:15:07 pm »
According to the instructions for updating the installer, I deleted everything except the /art directory, downloaded and installed the new installer, Then I updated. Now when I try to start up the game, I get this message:

william@uhuru:~/planeshift$ ./psclient
./psclient.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libsmpeg-0.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Also the same thing happened when I tried to launch from the updater.

Any advice?

Linux Specific Issues / Linux binaries waste of download bandwidth?
« on: January 07, 2006, 08:25:36 am »
I downloaded it last night, ran it this morning, and it doesn\'t even contain everything I need. It is missing some dialog program, but I didn\'t find any seperate download for a dialog program.

I AM NOT GOING TO INSTALL WINDOWS in order to be able to play this game.

Also SourceForge didn\'t offer any downloads there as well.

I remember when I had Mandrake, there was even a Planeshift rpm in the repository that worked.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Updating very difficult
« on: April 11, 2005, 12:20:11 pm »
I am located in Finland. I suppose I must be fetching the updates from Italy. We have never had very good Internet connections to Italy from here. The transfers keep stalling, and if they stall, they never start back up again. The update should not take me too long in principle, since I have a 1Mbps connection. But when I have to keep stopping and restarting the updater, it is taking a long time. I had the updater going for 3 days straight once. I haven\'t been able to get into the game yet. I will be running it on Mandrake 10.1. Any other Mandrake users out there?

William
