Caffein overdose:
  • You are unable to walk - you just keep RUNNING all the time
  • You can\'t controll your magic - you ALWAYS try to cast spells at their absolute maximum
  • You overdo it at fighting, attacking twice as fast, but also loosing three times the fatique you normally would
  • You can\'t help but play frantically cheerful music (see tavern thread :D )
  • You are unable to speak normally - everything you say will be in capslock / italic font / different color / whatever
  • Your senses are playing tricks on you - sometimes your vision starts flickering for a moment or you\'ll hear some strange noise

Not to forget the nasty side effects caffein junkies experience from not getting their daily / hourly fill of coffee... :D

A sleepyness bar? That\'s what the fatique bar is there for... :P

But, pretty please, we definitely NEED coffee... no good game without pitch black, steeming hot coffee to get your character addicted to! :D

That would be mean - I like it :D

Naturally it should stop the normal background music - or rather turn it\'s volume down for a smooth transition.

And, not to forget - it should only work as long as you have the right instrument equipped :P

Rather (or, better still: additional) there should be some command like /play [instrument] [emotion] - for those of us who want to play bards while lacking the talent of playing ourselves :D

/play guitar happy
---> cheerful guitar music starts to play
---> people within range get the message \"Antranianni starts playing a cheerful tone on her guitar\"

Phenotypes would be GREAT, they would add so much depth to a character, making it possible to get away from that all beautiful, muscular standard hero cliche.

But phenotypes also require LOTS of work - unless they find some way to automatically convert models to the different phenotypes on the fly, they\'ll have to do every outfit for every race in every phenotype. That\'ll be also quite heavy on the game download and all...

Still, maybe they really could find a way to do it on the fly (requiring only a single model the client could work with) - we had a nifty program back at the NWN comunity that helped converting models to the larger phenotype, yet last I worked with that it still required a few minor tweakings after converting a model :(

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /
« on: September 08, 2005, 08:49:55 am »
See, the main problem were not the things you said, but HOW you said them... you made yourself everybodys enemy right with your first post. Actually, I\'m really astonished how rather nice the answers in the first thread were, in other communities you\'ld have been flamed right away (and, no offense, quite justified).

Apologizing for your rude words, but at the same time complaining about the rude answers to that, didn\'t help either - just leave it be at that, it seems like you DO have interesting things to say and it would be a shame if people would simply start to ignore you because of a bad start.

Also, please try to understand why people are thinking what you said sounded hilarious: Did you ever make a game yourself before? It DOES sound easy first, and on the paper it might look like everything will just go fine - but to be true, for Planeshift to even come as far as it did by now is a HUGE acomplishment. Most games die within the first 6-12 months (the rest going down after another 4 months), because what sounded easy at first turned out to be a pain in the... well, you know.

I\'ve participated in quite a couple of game developments up to now, and only ONE of them didn\'t end up dying. The main problem is, non-profit development is SLOW, no matter how many people volunteer to help at the beginning.

Believe me, 99% of the people you recruit now will be gone within a couple of weeks and you\'ll constantly have vacant positions within your team - vacant positions that\'ll slow down development even more - and slow development kills commitment - and a lack of commitment results in fewer developers - and fewer developers result in vacant positons... you see were this is going?

That\'s the reason why people laugh at you when you talk about how much better your game will be than Planeshift - Planeshift simply is one of the really, really rare non-profit gaming projects that managed to survive past the initial 12 months, so it\'s rather hilarious to compare it to a pre-development project.

But - and again I believe you should just try to get on good terms with everybody again - it seems like you could help make Planeshift a bit better, as long as you stop telling the devs what they (in your opinion) are doing wrong and start proposing better ways to do it. I\'m sure your suggestions WOULD be appreciated!

*imagines hundreds of characters doing the latest summer fashion dance at the Plaza* Noooooooooooooo! :D

j/k

Great idea... sure, not one of the most important features, but this would add great, unique possibilities to the game!

How about an option to join in even after the action started?

Hm... that kind of makes you wonder why they never did a browser version of EQ2... :D

But this actually might reduce the enjoyment of others - imagine someone hunting another player, abusing this \"feature\" to find him/her. There\'ld be no IG reason for the hunter to know he has to look for in this or that area, yet with this command he\'d be able to know.

Having fun together a \"waste of time\"? Brr... I\'ll nerver understand certain people :D

Well, it\'s a comon problem of many (if not all) MMORPGs... you have to kill monsters to gain skills and money, while you practically get \"punished\" for simply roleplaying your character.

I used to organize religious activities at other games and quite know how it feels to celebrate with barely a handful of people.

But I don\'t understand why it seems to be especially hard with PS. I already had some nice encounters IG, so there HAVE to be quite a few roleplayers in here :D

Btw: That festival of yours sounds great - any way a no-money, no-skill, no-nothing newbie can help out with that a bit? ;)

Uhm... why not, instead of random flashmobs, starting to organize more InGame events like dancing festivals, religious ceremonies and the like? It could basically have the same effect (gathering people to play TOGETHER instead of being scattered around the map), yet it would help increase the roleplaying experience :P

I don\'t know what exactly I\'m speaking of (I never do :D j/k).

I\'ld really want to contribute more than just once, on a semi-regular base - yet I can\'t say how much time I\'m able to invest each day/week/month.

During holidays, when my health\'s fine and the other projects are going slow again, I\'ld be able to work 5 to 10 hours a day - but then again there are times when I\'ld have to stop working for an entire month or even longer. That\'s my main problem.

So joining the team as a regular member is out of the question, but would it be possible to become a contributor at this rate?

Well... the worst flaw being that engine alignment is a bad idea to begin with - but that\'s not a discussion to be held in this thread... :D

Please, no!

This system SOUNDS quite nice and well considert, yet try to think what this would mean ingame... you\'ld have to stick with a chosen alignment forever, because making the alignment changeable would totaly break this system.
(\"Let\'s see... to get the best price with this smith I\'ll have to set my alignment to lawful stupid...\" )

The problem is, you can do that with illustrations, 3d models and retexuring - but with background, quests and the like you\'re rather dependant on communication with the team before starting to do anything.

I would hate to promise an amount of work or time that I cannot possibly give due to RL responsibilites, in turn letting many people down. Missing a work deadline is something I personally can\'t stand and I wouldn\'t want to start now.

*nods*
Yes, that\'s exactly my problem - I fear ending up being more hindrance than help.

Wanted to add, Antranianni, if you drew the art in your sig that\'s very nice work!

Thank you! :))
