InGame RP Flashmob
« on: September 06, 2005, 11:11:28 pm »
Ok, just came over http://www.flashmob.com/ again and a strange idea slipped into my mind.

For those of you, never heard about flashmobs, look at the url above or mabye also at http://www.flashmob.co.uk/ or http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashmob or just google it.

So, flame me maybe, but what about some IG-Flashmob Events?
Sure, they shouldn\'t be called Flashmob and should be much more RPish, but just something everyone yould participate regardsless of race, skill, whatever. Just something wthout competition, just for fun.
Sometimes i see more the 100 People online and i really would like to see how it looks if they where all at the Plaza..hmm...dancing maybe.
Or all of them in the Temple worshipping the Yliakum Gods or something.

So, i want to ask all of you,

what would be a good name ( instead of \"flashmob\" ) IG for these events?
How could this be organized ( if someone would like the idea )?
And, has anyone some really crazy ideas for some events?

regards

Uhm... why not, instead of random flashmobs, starting to organize more InGame events like dancing festivals, religious ceremonies and the like? It could basically have the same effect (gathering people to play TOGETHER instead of being scattered around the map), yet it would help increase the roleplaying experience :P

Erm you mean something like the Festival of the Hunt ... or a wedding ... or an expedition to investigate Ulber activity ... or maybe even some random games like hide and seek or treasure hunts?

I think if you look around these forums you \'ll see that quite a few events have already been organized and a lot of people have tried certain things. Usually there is a problem that an event needs to be beneficial before many people are interested. 70% of PS players will only look at you when you say something along the lines of \"Come join the fun and win 10000 trias!\" because if you just shout \"Come join the fun!\" they \'ll all think .. \"and waste time while I can be making money or training? No thank you.\"

If you \'re lucky there are a few RPers around willing to show some interest but even there the requirements are often high. People are always good at criticizing initiatives of others but usually don\'t attempt to do it better :P

If you have some ideas for any events by all means go ahead and start them up though, you have my support. :)

Yes i\'m aware of all these Events, and yes, i see the Problem.

But most of these Events are only promoted on the Forums and some, like the Competitions maybe scare the Noobs away.

What i was thinking about, was something which would be anounced on every channlel possible. In the Forum, in the chat and also ingame by volunteers running aroung, calling everybody in the world to an event, with the target to get as many as possible players together at on place ( should make some pretty impressive screenshots).

And, ( most important to me ), just for fun.

Having fun together a \"waste of time\"? Brr... I\'ll nerver understand certain people :D

Well, it\'s a comon problem of many (if not all) MMORPGs... you have to kill monsters to gain skills and money, while you practically get \"punished\" for simply roleplaying your character.

I used to organize religious activities at other games and quite know how it feels to celebrate with barely a handful of people.

But I don\'t understand why it seems to be especially hard with PS. I already had some nice encounters IG, so there HAVE to be quite a few roleplayers in here :D

Btw: That festival of yours sounds great - any way a no-money, no-skill, no-nothing newbie can help out with that a bit? ;)

Ah I see ... I \'d like some more in-game announcements too but have you ever tried it? I have ... a lot of people complain about spamming etc. if you go announce something like this on the Plaza.
I \'m still waiting on some in-game bulletin boards where you can leave messages, something like that would be ideal.

Antranianni, there is plenty you can do to help out in the organisation. No need for any in-game skills. As long as you have free time to help out at the festival itself and/or original ideas you are most welcome :D I suggest you look around on our forums *points to his sig*
