Zanzibar, I love meeting those players because they really try their best, and often have the potential to become great RP:ers with just a little help. :D

Now, Davo...I always get annoyed at people who make bad comments on movies I like and then end their argumentation with \"I even fell asleep after half the movie\". You\'re doing the same thing now.
No offense, but I don\'t think you are in a position to make statements about CB, having only played it for 5 mins. In such a short period of time, I doubt that you had the time to meet up with many RP:ers, even less build a fair opinion on their RP.
MB was fun, I agree, but I\'ve seen much better RP in CB. I loved to play Hide and Go Seek, but it wasn\'t like our characters went \"Hoohooo I\'ve been waiting all week to play Hide and Go Seek!\". It was quite OOC.
I say: go ingame and walk around for a little while. If you see no RP going on, which I really doubt, you can always start some... ;)
Hope to see you ingame. You too Isra.

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) /

I just read the story Farren and it\'s good. You have quite a nice writing style. :) The big problem is that
you don\'t respect Steuben\'s 6th rule:

Quote
6. a) submit works to steuben viscosa with \"ps open challenge\" in the subject line
b) include title, and forum name.

The reason this rule exists, I believe is to avoid people from getting unfair advantages. The sooner you post, the more people will have the time to read your story and thus you are more likely to get votes. At the first story challenge, Steuben avoided this problem by posting all stories at the same time which I believe is his plan for this round as well. So, you should probably remove the text from your post and just PM it to him instead.

Another thing is that you do not respect the set theme that is \"Tavern\". Hopefully you will be able to make modifications to your current text, not to have to write a whole new story... :(

EDIT: Removed a section not to ruin the story :EDIT

Anyway, if I ignore all the rules, your story was nice and well-written :)

EDIT: remember to be consistent in your choice of tenses. You sometimes switch between past tense and present tense for no good reason.

Instead of telling us what\'s wrong, please come up with a solution.

IMO There isn\'t one, it has been tried before unsuccessfully. The same problems exist now as they did then.

I don\'t understand you either, Janner. If there is no sollution to the problems and this organisation is bound to fail like its predecessors, why do you insist on posting here? Do you want them to disband right away, without giving it a shot? What are you trying to achieve through this conversation?

Why ?
If the problem is say a evil one and SCoY have evil alined guilds in it. I cant see what you hope to achieve as any discussion would be against the aims of evil guilds, and the same applies to good aligned guilds.

Whatever happened to Chaos and Order, Janner? Just because guilds are of different alignment it does not mean that they cannot strive for the same thing. Look at the Dark Empire and compare it to any evil guild that wants to spread chaos and mayhem all over Yliakum. Then compare the Dark Empire to many of the guilds in the SCoY who are looking to create order in Yliakum society. Which do you think we would rather be assosciated to?
People need to stop thinking that all good guilds are about exterminating evil, vice versa (those guilds are just a result of lack of imagination.) An \"evil problem\" does not have to concern all evil guilds...

EDIT: More importantly, people need to stop thinking that this organisation is fighting evil. They fight to hold the peace...

Thanks for responding thoroughly. :) Another question that rises is how you plan to discuss the IC and OOC questions. Hopefully, the ingame meetings will be for discussing IC matters only, but where will OOC discussions be held?

A good list would be Kada\'s list. I believe that is the official of official lists of guilds in Yliakum.

Kada\'s list is really outdated at this time, so the list Pip suggested is probably better. Though making calculations relying on the member count that guild leaders give you is plain silly. The active member count has nothing to do with all the numbers you can find on different guildlists or sites. No offense to the guilds I mention, but you won\'t find 28 active Knowledge Seekers just like you won\'t find 30 active Community of Vaalnor members (just examples). None of the guilds show, or even know, their true active member count as this changes all the time, which makes a discussion about members quite...pointless.

Something much more important is the quality of the guilds. What are your requirements on roleplaying, for example? Since guilds only have to accept to join, what\'s your guarantee that they will RP?
The reason I say this is because I have seen several guildleaders ingame lately who claim to be roleplayers when they are not. If the leader doesn\'t roleplay I believe it is safe to assume that most of his guildmembers don\'t either. What about that, Easton?

I have to say I didn\'t fully understand your post Janner, so I can\'t really make a good reply. What I did understand was that they are just a bunch of \"do gooders\" which makes me wonder why that makes them your enemy. I thought you were one of those \"do gooders\". Does that mean Janner\'s Way is an ego trip as well then?

And can you please clarify the part about summoning xillix and taking it to the \"Octarch\" thread? The problem at the ingame meeting was that people spoke of this council when they should have been talking about the Octarch so I see no reason to take this discussion there. It does not belong there...

It\'s your thread and you do what you wish with it, all I ask for is a clarification of your previous post before we move the discussion somewhere or simply stop it. :)

They have repeated over and over again that they are not a government so why do they have to turn to the guildless people? They wanted to make a \"guild of guilds\" and I don\'t see what\'s wrong with that. It has been done several times before and I don\'t remember people getting annoyed back then.

There are also several guilds whose goal is to cleanse Yliakum from all evil. Why don\'t you ask all of them what right they have to decide who is evil? After all, their actions against evil are as likely to affect you as the actions made by this council.

They are not forcing any rules on anybody, so I don\'t see what they do to deserve you calling them control freaks. The only control they have is over those that decide to join the council, and since guilds apply to the council and are by no means forced into it, you could say their applications represent their vote.

I seriously think you wanted to be part of this from the start, which is why you are pissed (and because of your hair of course ;)). Because, from what I can see, there is nothing about this council that would normally offend Janner or even offend a normal Janner. :)

Who are you to determine what is a threat and how to deal with it ?

players... just as much as the rest of us.

Who don\'t get a say in your appointed chosen few

i really don\'t see what you are trying to achieve here, maybe its just one of those post count boosters that shal uses? or maybe you just don\'t understand things?

Do you really believe that, i am disappointed in you if you do shame.. Bad Drey..

But Easton has said several times, and it says so on the website, that any guild is allowed to join. So why do you keep saying that you don\'t have a say in this, Janner? I can understand if you are mad because they kept the council a secret from you in its experimental stage, but make sure you dislike them for the right reason then.
Trying to turn people against them by saying it\'s for a chosen few is obviously outdated at this point.
Your problem is between you and them...

Nothing personal, Janner, but I think Drey is right in everything except for his quite silly post boost theory.

Your right could be my wrong

Not really. Playing the right way in PS, means that you roleplay. As long as you do that, it doesn\'t matter whether your character is a good guy or a bad guy. Rules are rules and leave space for no opinion...

I completely agree with you, Zanzibar. It\'s the small details that make the game...

About the climbing, Gerbrant, there is a climbing skill in PS though it is not yet implemented. Can\'t wait to see what that will be like :P

Well, I\'m glad to see different people handle death in diferent ways. It shows that I\'m not the only one who doesn\'t know the official way to handle it... :)

And Kixie, I think your idea is funny though I can\'t stop thinking that it should be reversed. Feels like there\'s a bigger chance that he will be evil than good, and thus maybe enjoy giving the goody-two-shoes a hard time. I wish... :P

Haha I do find Kiva\'s explanation funny, but it doesn\'t seem very serious. If a stupid Kran can get out, why shouldn\'t an Octarch be able to, especially since there is supposed to be a way to bribe the Death God... :P

I do agree with everything else you said, but that explanation I just can\'t buy. There has to be something deeper...

No offense, but I think the whole Death Realm idea is so far away from our normal perception of death, that the devs simply haven\'t come up with a good explanation yet. And if they have, I couldn\'t be happier to be proven wrong :D

*curls into a little ball*

No smite please...

General Discussion / Explanation concerning death
« on: March 06, 2006, 12:28:10 am »
Hello :)

For some time I\'ve been wondering how to deal with death in Planeshift, since there is a Death Realm and all that. Can people die a permanent death, even though it\'s not due to old age?

Apparently so:

Quote
An Octarch can\'t be removed, nevertheless in some cases the Octarch was assassinated because it was too cruel, inept, dishonest, etc... One of the most famous cases is the one of Fertedian Dalko, Octarch of the 4th level, that was tied to a hypnotized Megaras and sent straight towards the Crystal.

So what decides whether a person dies a permanent death or gets the opportunity to come back through the Death Realm? And why didn\'t Fertedian Dalko (Grandfather of Sengus Dalko btw :P) come back to life? He was only assassinated after all. How is that different than dying from falling down some stairs, or getting your head chopped off by a gladiator?

Also, in general, how long is the escape from the Death Realm supposed to take? Can a person who is killed in a barfight return to the bar before his murderer even finishes his drink, or is it supposed to take days? I assume, and hope, it\'s the latest but I can only speculate...

Surely many (if not all) of these things have been discussed before, but I still can\'t seem to find answers anywhere.

Of course, this is also a request for the devs to make information like this official, so people have facts to base their roleplaying on. :)
