Linux Specific Issues /

I like the idea of an Easy build script. It looks like it would be easy to use, and would take a bit of pressure off the developers to release new binaries.

Ok, so it seems a fair few people are interested. I\'m  out till I get new version of client, though (I\'m on Linux, and I\'m too scared to build from sources).

If you hold one before then, let me know how it goes. I\'m wondering if it would be good to make a longer course, and then have a practice lap to show people where it goes.

I thought the update was just a few bits of data or something. Does that mean that it\'s now version 0.3.013?

Is that the CVS source we need to build from?

Linux Specific Issues / Updating version
« on: November 30, 2005, 01:00:13 am »
The server has just gone down for a restart, and I\'ve run the updater (It seemed to work, although there wasn\'t much to update).

Now when I try to log back in it tells me that my version isn\'t correct. I think this is Linux specific, because laanx.fragnetics.com says that there are 17 people logged in.

General Discussion / Death Realm races
« on: November 29, 2005, 08:07:58 am »
Whould anyone be interested in a race to the gate of the death realm (or anywhere else that someone suggests and is better)?

I was thinking something like all players pay a 50-100 tria entry fee (more/less?) to a *trusted 3rd party* who will wait at the finish line and pays the first across the line all the money. The death realm seemed like the best place because of the danger of falling.

I agree with Draklar that there shouldn\'t be any super high-powered items. It would make planeshift \'generic\'. A rich cahracter may have a ruby encrusted hilt, but the sword should essentially be the same (It could be a little lighter or stronger, but not that different). I find it tiring (and a bit boring) always having to upgrade one\'s weapons so that you can go on better quests to get better weapons etc. Less high powered weapons would also encourage teamwork, as it would become very difficult for a player to handle everything on his own.

On the other hand, it is somewhat rewarding to go an a long, difficult quest, and get some sort of super-item at the end, and a good-looking helmet probably won\'t feel worth it. But in a mmorpg, you would inevitably end up with lots of players with \'legendary\' items, and they would quickly lose their uniqueness.

I think a different focus than powerful weapons would work better in a mmorpg context.

Anyway, that\'s quite a lot of words which really say nothing much, so I\'ll shut up now.

Yea, I thought that might be the case. I just thought that it\'d be cool to use a \'real\' skill and not just some auto generator or something.

Wish list / Map making
« on: November 19, 2005, 09:29:02 am »
I was just thinking about map making, and I had the following idea. If someone else has already thought of it, then sorry.

Players can draw a picture of a place (e.g. The sewers) on a piece of paper while they are exploring it, and then open up a paint program (or it could be all done in-game) and draw the map (yes, by hand). They could then use this \'image\' and put it onto parchments that cost, say, 1 tria, from a merchant and can then trade or sell the map to other players. I realise that this could be difficult and possibly abused, but if someone puts a lot of time into their map/s, they could probably sell a lot of them and make a lot of money, whereas if there maps are bad, very few will buy them.

What does everyone else think?
