Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: hello new mac system "leopard" 10.5
« on: June 17, 2007, 10:13:26 am »
my guess is that leopard should be backwards compatible. If the base systems has changed then it should have some sort of emulation - like rosetta for the intel systems, might be a bit slow. Worse come worse, and you have intel mac, just install boot camp, windows xp and enjoy the windows release of PS which should come out before the mac build :P

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: What is the Faction Tab ?
« on: June 13, 2007, 08:48:00 am »
i take it i'll have to redo all the quests i did before the faction system for the faction results? Is it possible to go through the database and update faction data based on quest logs?

someone unknowingly did this to me too:P. They must have been so caught up smelting bronze stock that they didn't notice some steel stock in their inventory. They were kind enough to give it back when i noticed i was down some stock.

Well if the whole inv system is being rewrit, i guess we'll have much fun prodding it for more bugs  :beta:

can't wait to see the progress  \\o// keep up the good work fellas

EDIT: what you said starg sounds kinda like what mighta happened

congradulatios to all of you :).

Wish list / Re: I just found out that some quests aren't repeatable.
« on: February 19, 2007, 10:24:49 am »
agreed, it doesn't make sense that after completing or accepting a quest the npc can just for no reason not have that quest when another character can get that quest the next second. This would only make sense if the quest had a permanent effect against the player, eg. a quest which changes specific player-npc relations.

instead of ./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright

try just Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright or /Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright

it definately was at one point in the past when i was playing with 0.18.

if you read my other recent post the topic below this one you'll see that i was messing around with the environment variables and after which i got that error

what else have you been trying to do?

there is a very high chance that the updaters don't work yet. The update servers haven't been updated themselves (oh the irony).

you will have to reinstall planeshift.

when you run it next time go to terminal (in the utilities folder in the applications folder) and type cd
then click and drag the psclient.app icon into the terminal window
hit the return key
then type ./Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright and hit return (you can copy and paste that line into the terminal window)

planeshift should run much smoothy and with less bugs/crashes but will not look as pretty. Hopefully there will be a minor update soon that will fix everything.

Ignore any messages that the client tells you to update or that there are new updates available, always check the forums for now or ask a GM or developer

have fun

Mac OSX Specific Issues / i think i totally toasated PS on my computer
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:06:03 pm »
Hi fellaz,

i got the 0.18 PS version via bot torrent. I've done some minor things like copying preferences and stuff back into the new folders. I had everything semi working. I could log in and do stuff but only with -fullbright. i couldn't use Cha0s' java lancher for somereason i believe it's because the process is now psclient_static or whatever, anyway, i wanted to do a -relight so i went to my command line which i had been using succesfully with -fullbright. I got an error telling me my CRYSTAL environment variable was wrong so on the advice of a linux user i set it to nothing (export CRYSTAL="") and lo and behold nothing worked anymore via the commandline in terminal, and it still complained about the CRYSTAL environment variable. I got another mac user to check what the CRYSTAL variable was on his computer (echo $CRYSTAL) and it was nothing, what i had set on my computer.

I can log in, but unfortuantely with none of my main characters because they are all in maps that crash my client if i don't have -fullbright. I want to be using those maps so i'm not interested in just having a GM kill the characters (i don't think that would work anyway as i believe one of my characters is in the DR already, could be wrong).

anyone have any idea how i can run under -fullbright and do a -relight? pssetup crashes with a segmentation fault so i can't use the relighter there.
the only other hope i have is for the java launcher but it 'can't find the client' probably due to the _static name change.
i'd be very grateful if anyone knew how to fix these problems and any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

DKR, Nyramael, or Tangorr (surely you'd recognise one of those) :P

PS: here's the error i get from running /psclient_static or with -fullbright, -help, -relight or anything

Wish list / Re: short cut usable variables?

I use a two line shortcut whenever i approach someone i'm only vaguely familiar with:
/target next nearest player
/targetinfo
At a glance i can see race and gender (very useful when dealing with klyros) and any important things worthy of note in their description. I only do this as a temporary  fix until we do get access to the $race and $gender commands that the npcs do.

I'd like more complex scripting too but the devs probably won't implement that to stop people boting and things like that.

the most painful audio recording i've ever heard Click it!

It speaks for itself. It is incredibly hard to listen to. Be warned. Not for the faint of heart.

Verizon doesn't know the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars.
Before George went to Canada, he asked Verizon the rate for data and voice transfer. They told him, "Point zero zero two cents per kilobyte."

He was surprised then to receive a bill for Point zero zero two dollars per kilobyte.

Instead of getting charged $.7141, Verizon is charging him $71.41.

This is his call as he tries to explain to Verizon the difference between $.002 and $.00002.

Evolution must be into negative gearing…

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: New Mac Version?
« on: December 04, 2006, 04:14:05 am »
I have to agree.  PS, even in it's pre-Alpha stage, looks 20 times better than any completed mac "mmorpg".

Just a quick question for any mac gurus out there:  Is there anyway I can set my uptader.jar file to run by itself.  Say, like on a weekly basis?

Favorite passtime:  finding more efficient ways to be lazy.

I think it might be possible to also add it into iCal. Create an event and have it repeat every month or week or whatever. Under alarm set it to open file and hopefully it will be able to run the updater.jar

Either that or the script option.

Haven't checked it out.

It might be an idea to check with Cha0s or a dev as sometimes the updater can break your copy of PS especially if you've downloaded the mac client and the update server hasn't been updated  :P

Wish list / Re: /die <message>
« on: November 29, 2006, 01:01:44 pm »
according to the CVS log i quoted the next system to be implemented would have something like /die giving "Nyramael has died" and you could also do something like /die /me drinks the poisoned wine and collapses in fits to the ground with blood oozing out of his mouth in sync with the die motion - the system would show "Nyramael drinks the poisoned wine and collapses in fits to the ground with blood oozing out of his mouth" as the character dies.

I suppose the old system would have worked with a seperate /me or /my if the silly /die message wasn't broadcast…

« on: November 25, 2006, 02:46:19 am »
As a side note why not alloy people to be able to hold anything in their hand/s. I mean if it can fit in your inventory (in bag on your back) you should be strong enough to hold it in your arms. I know this can already by done with ores and stock. Then instead of dropping things on the ground where you can noobs and jerks run off with it, allow players to see what other people are holding i.e. right click on the item in their hands. Alternatively work that into the description window. This would also mean you can check out peoples weapons which you would be able to in real-life - differentiate between iron short sword (dangerous) and maybe a fire short sword (not so dangerous). Also means people can intimidate others without actually fighting for some fun RP.

As a side note this would also fix the un-able to equip armor to repair it like the repair weapon method :P

This would also solve the problem of things being littered and players loosing stuff on a crash.
