i think i totally toasated PS on my computer
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:06:03 pm »
Hi fellaz,

i got the 0.18 PS version via bot torrent. I've done some minor things like copying preferences and stuff back into the new folders. I had everything semi working. I could log in and do stuff but only with -fullbright. i couldn't use Cha0s' java lancher for somereason i believe it's because the process is now psclient_static or whatever, anyway, i wanted to do a -relight so i went to my command line which i had been using succesfully with -fullbright. I got an error telling me my CRYSTAL environment variable was wrong so on the advice of a linux user i set it to nothing (export CRYSTAL="") and lo and behold nothing worked anymore via the commandline in terminal, and it still complained about the CRYSTAL environment variable. I got another mac user to check what the CRYSTAL variable was on his computer (echo $CRYSTAL) and it was nothing, what i had set on my computer.

I can log in, but unfortuantely with none of my main characters because they are all in maps that crash my client if i don't have -fullbright. I want to be using those maps so i'm not interested in just having a GM kill the characters (i don't think that would work anyway as i believe one of my characters is in the DR already, could be wrong).

anyone have any idea how i can run under -fullbright and do a -relight? pssetup crashes with a segmentation fault so i can't use the relighter there.
the only other hope i have is for the java launcher but it 'can't find the client' probably due to the _static name change.
i'd be very grateful if anyone knew how to fix these problems and any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

DKR, Nyramael, or Tangorr (surely you'd recognise one of those) :P

PS: here's the error i get from running /psclient_static or with -fullbright, -help, -relight or anything

Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?

If CRYSTAL isn't set in your .profile file, it will be un-set when you open up a new terminal window.  Else you can try "unset CRYSTAL" to revert back to the previous state.  Or, you can try to set it correctly, which would be export CRYSTAL=/some/path/to/your/PS/folder

I can't reproduce the problem of PS complaining that iConfigManager failed to initialize.  Did you tamper with vfs.cfg or your other configuration files?  Can you reproduce this with a clean, fresh 0.18 image?

Thanks,
Daniel
