General Discussion / Re: Save the Evil Ones
« on: September 18, 2006, 01:22:45 pm »
rp "evil" some thread...save the evil ones...
threads like this allways tend to pop up on ps forums, the problem is far from old yet nobody does anything about it, why???
firstly imo in order to succesfully rp evil you need some sort of game mechanics to help you otherwise it just ends up in a typical my father is stronger than your father argument only in tells and without the family buisness..."not allways tough, i did had a few "nice regards sent towards my mother back in my days.."
but back to the subject at hand, take an example i played a game for a few weeks now, were rp-ing evil is very easy, why? because it's fully pvp, i just get some people to help me and we go to a doo-gooders city, kill all the guards then kill all the citizens, then p**s on the bodies....whatever. it is because it's allowed by the game mechanics that it's not rp anymore?, i don't think so
in the current state of affairs a evil character really can't do anything beside insulting someone[ ie: backstabing, murdering, kidnapping, torturing, etc...not posiible exept with the accord of the other player] and who would say something like: yeah sure i would be more than happy, would you please murder me?... no because all ps players are heroes...knights in shining armour who when you go like 10 guys against one and start "attacking" him, he goes like: /me pulls his magicall sword, does a whirlwid slash and kills all his attackers...then what???
[edit] sorry zanzibar, mustve missed that last post...
imo this is what ps is without any way of pvp:
http://www.thenoobcomic.com/daily/strip040.html
talk is cheap, it's the actions that promote your character...

2
pvp......
do you have any ideea how hard it is for someone to rp evil?
imagine 10 ppl jumping a "poor" traveller on the hills somewhere, he just goes on with his buisness ignoring them...how do you do it then?of course, when there are 20+good guys against me i got a shot, don't i???

err... this is supposed to be advertising for the guild, and he basically just posted something else above my own post, something that is more or less the opposite of what we stand for....
imagine someone coming and just reading the last post, he would be like: "wtf? this guy claims he wants ballance and he's helping people?he can't be serious..."
[and it hapends quite a lot when people just read the last posts]
[oh and if someone wants to argue or attack me or something, please use PM's so that this advertisement will remain just that]
and now we are really going  :offtopic:

that's not exactly my ideea, Sherlock, actually you got it pretty much all wrong
first i DO believe in ballance, second I don't think that a player can RP whe they are camping at a rogue or glad 24/7, and third, i am AGAINST helping people at this moment, because the ballance of yliakum is too much inclined toward good allready.
And last i don't require any more interpretations or translations, thank you. I'm pretty sure the persons to whom this post is intended understand it quite well.
If you don't have anything important to say, just shut up

Citizens of yliakum, i come to you with a plead for help
Our world is destroying itself,
The ballance of yliakum is threatened from all sides
It is up to us to keep it intact, help me, and you shall help yourselves
[Ok, here's the whole ideea, i'm recruiting for a new guild called the circle of nalaceb.
the point of this guild is to ensure that the proper balance will be kept in yliakum
this is NOT about power hugry conquerors, it is not about helping people directly (that would tip the balance toward good), we do help people indirectly by preserving the ballance, for as we know, nothing can exist without ballance
requirements:
1.You must be a roleplayer, must stay in character at all times and you MUST NOT POWERLEVEL, we do not tolerate powerlevelers in this guild
2.You must be prepared to do all that is in your power to preserve the proper balance
3.You must be active at least 5 hours per week
4.You must have over 18 years in RL[i have had past experiences in Planeshift with children and it was enough for me]
and 5. You must be prepared to have fun
If anyone is interested and meets the requirements, please Pm me
also, if you want more info, you can Pm me]
Remember people, nothing can exist in a world without ballance

there is no need to have an alligment system, alligment, is not something you choose once and then get stuck with, alligment is forced upon your character by his actions
what i am suggesting is that all new players should choose a starting alligment
Of course that choice won\'t be final

err that\'s weird, you should be able to see the pic, ayway here\'s a link
http://www.makita-ps.go.ro/alligment.jpg
@peacer, that was merely an example to make my point.........
you see the problem with xilix\'s old system was that all new players were being sent on the same path
@Xilix, i will try this new system of yours
[and don\'t tell me about smelting, because lately, the platinum mines are being invaded by vespers]
[edit] yes, for some reason the link doesn\'t seem to work, just copy it and paste it into your browser

Kiwisol,
Thank you for you remark, i appreciate it, but this isn\'t about who gets credit or not
It\'s about improving the ps performance, improving the allround atmosphere of the game and eventually making sure there is a game...
that would be the point of RP
i was asked on my ideea of RP, quite simple there should be no such term, From the very word comes from role-play as in playing your role
if i was to compare it to RL, the closest thing i can get would be something like Roleplay=living your life

Xilix,
you say you came here for advice, well i\'m going to give you my ideea on how you should start, because all i heard so far were either praises by people that dont know a thing about what you are doing, but are supporting you to get on your good side, or critticism by me :D
anyway, i did your initiation test with an alt char to see what it\'s all about. I did that 4 days ago and then deleted that char.
I also dont know much about your guild, but if you want to be like a tutorial....there goes:

So here\'s my ideea
firstly ok, it\'s a good ideea to send them to your website, you seem to have things covered there.
but when they come back you send them to purchase all armour and all glyphs...errr why?
i suggest that you ask them a few questions about game lore and if they answer correctly you give them a reward [300 trias max]as for an initiation quest here\'s a few pointers:
1. First you ask them their alligment you could use the alligment box:

2. Second you try to ask them what path they would take, possible paths:
2.1Fighter[most obvious]with sub-paths
2.1.1 Soldier [sword/medium armour[light armour untill then]]
2.1.2 Warrior[Axe/Heavy armour[light armour untill then]]
2.1.3 Rogue[Daggers/Light armour]
more to come, if you want to know more, pm me
2.2Mage sub-paths
2.2.1.Sorcerer[red way]
2.2.2.Necromancer[Dark way]
2.2.3.Healer[crystal way]
2.2.4.Enchanter[Brown/Azure]
again if you want to know more, pm
2.3Craftsman with sub paths
2.3.1Weapon crafter[utill then, just stocks]
2.3.2Shield crafter[utill then, just stocks]
2.3.3Armour crafter[utill then, just stocks]
2.4Miner with sub paths
2.4.1 Ore miner
2.4.2 Valuable materials miner [gems]
2.5Merchant
2.5.1Weapons merchant
2.5.2Armour merchant
2.5.3Misc. merchant
2.5.4Potion merchant
and more to come, if you want to hear more, PM me
3.You give them starting equipment apropriate to their class
for fighters [basic ss for soldier, basic axe for warrior, basic dagger for rogue, and so on, and armour]
for mages[glyphs]
for crafters [tools, books, who knows?]
for miners [tools]
for merchants[some trias and tell them how to start]
after this is done, make a starting quest depending on their alligment and on their chosen proffesion, again if you need help, PM me
here\'s an example:
lawfull good fighter-help clean out the sewers of rats, reach lvl 1 in chosen weapon and bring 5 rat hides as proof
chaotic evil sorcerer go and terrorize the wild life reach lvl 1 redway and bring some animal parts proof
and so on....
after they done this you give them some final tips and they\'re ready to go on their way, they have basic equipment in their chosen profesion and they have some trias 300 from the questions and 300-400 from the first quest
well that about wraps it

Xilix,
I want you to know that what you are doing, is ruining the Rp-value of the game. I\'m not just saying this, i\'m argumeting below.
One problem is that you help new players, ok i can agree to that, but you claim you teach them how to roleplay, which you don\'t.
you teach them your ideea of roleplay, wich really isn\'t adequate for the current state yliakum is in, for there is the problem, most [90%] people that learn roleplay from you will orient their character towards good-alligments, and that is a problem
I have completed a study and have found out that over 90% of all active RP-ers in planeshift are good alligned and with more good people coming from your direction the number is increasing
My point is that for a RP-world to trully be rp, a certain ballance needs to be kept, meaning the number of good alligned players should be equal [or almost] with the number of evil alliged players, otherwise, the whole game purpose will fall to what it is now:
bashing the skull of that rogue ro gladiator or mercenary 24/7
i am playing this game for 5 months now and my skills are as follows:
14-sword
15-light armour
11-melee
i hit for about 50 damage
i\'m seeing players that have started under you tutelage that hit for 200-250 damage and have only started a week ago
And i believe that that\'s why this happens, because of the shortage of evil-alligned players, if more evil alligned players would be available, then the ballance would start shaping, would start taking form, and then, mostly because of conflict, the game would become a lot more entertaining.
And as for the economy crisis you are creating, you really give far too much trias for rewards, i mean what\'s the point of stealing if i can get far too much from you just for completing one of you insignificant quests.
As for a finallization for this message, i would like to stress some more on the ballance issue, for a any world to  work, real or virtual, the ballance of alligments must be kept, the good ones and the evil ones must cancel each other out, and the neutral ones should allways shift just to preserve the neutrality.
I have stated my point, i would see what that has earned not me, but the entire planeshift community

                                                                   Makita

Postscriptum:
for some reason, the forum won\'t let me make paragraph, so my letter won\'t look quite lettery :((

PvP,PK and Thieving /
« on: March 07, 2006, 05:39:52 pm »
actually, it is quite possible to use pvp or pk without killing the RP value of the game, and that is easy:
-zones
Zones for pvp and zones for stealing
zones for pvp could be something like a war going on or something, or maybe on some shady parts of town, where thieving could be enabled
by using certain zones, you should be safe; and of course some warning like a post or something:
\"Warning, point of no return\"
or
\"Warning, cross this line and you enter a warzone\"
or some sort of militia office where they could warn you on stuff, with lots of books like:
\"   the sewers
for as long as Hydlaa existed, so had the more shady elements of the city, most of them seemed to be very drawn to the sewers, you should be very carefull when you enter there, because all maner of thieves and pickpockets run there.\"

or something similar for other zones like behind the temple, or behind jayose\'s lybrary, or maybe down into the  lower levels of the laanx dungeon [the mines]
there are a lot more zones that can be used, these are mere examples, and considering the pre-beta state of the game, i\'m sure many more will be added :P
so basically, the ideea would be to add certain free pvp, pk and thieving zones and maybe warn players when they enter them

PvP,PK and Thieving / balance people
« on: February 01, 2006, 10:25:22 am »
ballance people,ballance
you seem  to be against pvp pk and thieving, why?
if the world would be full of do-gooders than the whole and only point in the game would be pwrlvling
i would bite off my finger if less than 80% of rp-ers would be against pvp
here is an ideea:
the dev team is trying to make, in the not so close future a mmorpg in wich all the functions of the game would be handled by pc\'s right?
I think that thieving pvp and pk should be enabled
these sort of actions should be made illegal.
since there is allready a town militia led by ogu, i think
they could be used to inforce the law, meaning: if someone steals, or murders someone else, that someone is liable to punishment, i mean think about: the implementation of pvp and pk is a two bladed sword meaning that if someone steals     from someone else, the victim runs straight to ogu and his militia and tells them about it, in wich case the militia would mark this thief and they will be able to kill him, right?
if these things are never enabled, then wouldn\'t it be pointless to have a militia???
whats would be there use, making sure none of the rats in the sewers dont get to close to \"endanger the citizens of hydlaa\"?

in short i think that pvp,pk and thieving should be enabled if not for improving and encouraging rp than at least  for balance sake
