I encountered a problem, and was hoping someone may have an answer. I don't know if this is a bug or not.

A few minutes ago, I was in the process of doing the "Without a Way" quest, given by Levrus.

*minor spoilers*

At the end, I was supposed to choose one of four wands or an amulet, to indicate my choice of Way to specialize in. The problem is that I hadn't realized that, after telling me to think on it, speaking to Levrus would automatically open the quest reward window (which is new to me, given that it has been years since I last played this game). I didn't make a choice (not that I remember), and instead closed the window via the "X" at the top. Now, however, it seems that I HAVE made a choice, yet I don't see anything new in my inventory. Thus, not only did I not get to choose the Way that I would have liked (or so I think), I also have no clue where my reward is, nor which Way I ended up choosing.

Is this a bug? Is there any way of undoing my choice? If the answer to the latter is no, then I suppose I'll have to make a new character. It wouldn't be much of a loss, given that this character isn't even a day old.

Don't mind the topic subject, I wasn't sure how to formulate it in a nice way.

Anyway, I was strolling around Hydlaa, saying hello to all of the locals (NPC's), looking for any possible trainers, when suddenly I noticed an icon I never saw before. I read the description, it said something about a staircase. I click the "climb" icon, and next thing I know I'm on a small wooden bridge-like structure. Does anyone else know of this? Am I even allowed to mention it (if not, then I'm glad I was being as vague as I could)?

Better to run? The other day I died for the first time since I started playing again (so perhaps a few days) after being gone for two years. I was just making my way back, and as I neared the end, on a narrow walkway, I get stuck for a few seconds, which was just long enough for a Wrathrat to kill me. The point is, it's not always possible to avoid things, simply because you might not even see them coming. That Onyx Dagger, mentionned above, is another example. As people have said above, a stat penalty is just too much. It's hard enough earning them, so why lose them so easily? I'd much prefer a material loss, such as having to pay a fee, for example.

I'm 17, though I found out about this game 2 years ago. Today I just happened to remember about this game, and decided to check out how it's going. A lot has changed since then, mostly for the good, but I do miss a few things.

General Discussion / What did I miss?

About 3 months ago, I discovered Planeshift. I played for a few weeks (and I loved it), then I went back to playing Conquer Online, that I was playing before I discovered Planeshift. Now it's been around 2 months since I last played, and the other day I had a sudden urge to play Planeshift again.

All I want to know is: first of all, I once read somewhere on the forums that inactive accounts aren't deleted, which means that I'll find my character just as he was before I "quit" (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, back when I was playing, there were "rumours" about a character wipe, and if it happened, then never mind my previous question. Finally, I'd like to know what has been added since I left, aside from what's in the update, and for crafted swords, as I have just read the thread about the crafted swords bug.

Note: if I'm posting this in the wrong forum, then I'm sorry. And if theres anything I should know, it would be useful if I were told.

PvP,PK and Thieving / Re: pickpocketing: random loot generator
« on: July 20, 2006, 03:02:09 am »
This is a good idea cause it doesn't actually hurt the player being pickpocketed, but helps make the game more realistic and fun for theives. Maybe the generator could also take into account the items that the person being pickpocketed has, and choose from those based on level. If the items could not be taken by a theif of that level, then the pickpocketing fails. The guard idea is a good idea too. This might work as well. Maybe if a person notices that they are being pickpocketed, they can automatically enter into a duel with the theif without needing the theif to accept if they choose to do so. Makes the profession riskier, but also adds a little more excitement.

Well the duel idea isn't too bad, but if the thief has very good skills, then he could easily beat the person he's thieving, unless of course other rules are added. But the idea isn't too bad. As long as the player (not the thief) doesn't actually lose any items, then its alright.

I had a similar problem, the game would crash after the character selection screen, while the game was loading. It would also send me back to my desktop without any error messages whatsoever. I decided to run the updater, and guess what: it worked. Now I don't have that problem, and I can even see my Nolthrir's leather armor (on him, not in the inventory).

For finding a name, I suggest you check this site out, it has a lot of name generators for various things, such as character names, spell names, and a plethora of things. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a pet name generator, although you can always use another one, as the names can easily be used for pets.

General Discussion / Re: The "don't spoil" spirit has gone too far.

People need to learn how to think logically and use common sense... And they should also learn that in life, there are no spoilers. If you lose a sock, you can't just go out on the net and look for spoilers on where it is.

Also, not everything is life is free, sometimes (if not all the time) you must work to earn stuff. Your lunch won't be served on a silver platter... Oh wait, it could...
Well unless you are rich, someone won't offer you a ferari for free.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Any new player help?
« on: July 20, 2006, 02:12:35 am »
well, heres my viewpoint (I know you all wait with baited breath lol)

yes dude, the learning curve is too steep, yes it is Pre-Alpha so bugs are to be expected.
I doubt I would still be playing if it were not for the games main redeeming feature..... The Community!
Thnx to a player who seriously helpd me (Goulde) when I first started I dont think I would be still playing,
I have since spent many hours in the sewers helping new players get into the game (as has the guild I belong to 'Wrath of Azure') including freely giving weapons to those who have none.
Many players wish to help these new players to get involved, you must have been very unlucky (or inappropriate) when you requested help.
In my opinion the game is already fantastic, and I would still play if its progression stopped (I hope it doesnt).
You need to remember that we are endebted to the Devs for giving up their spare time to create this game (I would also contribute if I had any skills that would be of use).
As for Roleplay, I freely admit im pathetic at it (although I try my best) I have no experience of Roleplaying games of this type (never done the paper, pen and dice thing, although Warhammer used to be my friend lol), and thats why I could be considered a power-leveler to some people but that is how all games I have ever played are expected to be played.
You should seriously try again to play this game, it is far deeper than it appears at 1st glance.
As always I wish to offer any help I can to new players, if you want some help/guide /tell me, I aswell as many other players would be pleased to help.
I would also like to say that I didnt read the player guide or register on the forums untill I had problems, I personally think this is the norm, when did you last read a readme.txt or manual before playing a game, I know that I havent for a long time and prefer to learn as I go along.

Thanks for letting me say my views and I remind people that that is all they are, My views.

WOW! my longest post ever..........
and not a single smilie  :D
ARGH Dammit lol

I agree with what you said.

Although this has been stated countless times, I will say it again: this game is Pre-Alpha. This means lots of bugs, missing features, etc. And yet, even though it's only version 0.3, it already has many great features, and when I think about what there is, I say to myself: "If we already have this many things available, in pre-alpha, I can't imagine how great this game will be once it's 'done' (online RPGs are never over, they always receive many updates)".

And yes, you must have been unlucky when you asked for help, as I have yet to see an unpleasant person in this game. Everyone seems friendly (I can't know everybody, now can I?  :D). Everyone is polite with others. Personally, I am too. Whenever I start chatting in PS, I suddenly start thinking slightly like my character; my vocabulary changes, full words (I avoid using can't don't,...), and I speak politely to everyone. And I always help others if it's within my power.

But even before asking for help, try to do things on your own. When I started, I was "armed" only with my common sense, logic, general RPG knowledge, and information taken from the manual. I don't recall asking for help, I managed. I understand that I may be older than some players, and so I think more logically, yet there are also many players that are much older than me, and yet they can't seem to be able to do anything on their own.

And even before you start playing, at least take the time to get informed. For example, read the player guide to get some general knowledge. Also, read the info on the home page, as it might give you info you need. Finally LOOK on the forums, using the search button, but don't post unless you are sure it will help. Finally, check the technical issues forum to get info on the many bugs that haven't been fixed yet.

The keyword with this game is PRE-ALPHA.

Sorry if this post was a bit long, but I like to develop my ideas, to give people a partially clear understanding of them (I sometimes can't fully express what I'm trying to say, and so the post makes less sense than it should).

And I do believe I posted my second smilie  :D (make that three now)

The race you choose is all up to you. Personnally, I chose a Nolthrir (elf) because they more inclined towards magic than many other races, due to the intelligence they start off with. I find intelligence more important than strength, although it can help sometimes.

As for the limitations, in the Player Guide, it is said that the future rules for the Klyros, for example, will prevent them from wearing heavy armor, as it will render them unable to fly (another rule for them).

As for the Kran, these limitations are based on the race's physical limitations- Nolthrirs will be able to breathe underwater, because they spend quite a lot of time in the water, and so they have evolved to conform to that.

p.s. I hope words like "menki" and "fenki" would stop to be used IC ...for me it spoils a bit the role-playing  :(

I agree with you there, it sounds more like some sort of "MSN" or other chat program language.

besides im sure to dont have ot refer to it like that if you dont really want to

That is a solution... yet it still spoils it somewhat.

To fix the brightness issue, try adjusting your monitor's brightness. If it still doesn't work, then use -fullbright. Just search for that, to find more information about it.

And by the way, this question has been asked countless times, so I suggest you use the search button before posting a question, as there are many questions that are quite common.
