General Discussion / Re: Bronze Doors Area
« on: August 16, 2006, 07:28:47 am »
Exactly those doors I never saw so far. Eagle's Rock seems to be only an outpost yet.
Well maybe you could get there by jumping from the Eagle's Rock...  ;D
...I tried that (yes, I know - stupid idea) and got stuck in the floor after quite a long fall - I even had the time to look around during falling (checking if there happens to be some parachute on my back - of course there wasn't). I tried to unstick, which brought me back to midair  :o, so I could have a look again before getting stuck. I eventually had to /die down there...  X-/ but there were no doors...

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Mine command
« on: August 08, 2006, 05:47:23 pm »
Suggestion re mine commands. Make a single "Dig" shortcut for a number of commonly mined ores/minerels, eg:

/dig iron
/dig gold
/dig diamond
/dig emerald

On the topic of digging... I am not sure if there was a current list of ressources you can mine...
From what I know, you can dig for
-gold
-silver
-iron

platinum was removed from the game.
Can you dig for diamond and emerald?
A list of ressources would be helpful, because if you typed '/dig for uranium' or 'dig for atlantis' you would get the same errormessage as if typing '/dig for iron' if you happen to have chosen just the wrong spot. Alternatively it would be helpful of course if you could get an errormessage like 'uranium is an unkown ressource'...

Maybe someone can complete the list? Can you actually mine diamonds and emeralds?

I think the pointer spell is a good idea...
- it seems to be technically possible (within reasonable efforts from the DEVs - at least as far as I can tell :))
- it is a piece of useful magic, that fits in a world where magic is common but within limits (keeping the balance of the game)

Perhaps you can make the time it lasts depending on the spellcasters skill. Would it be following/turning if the target moves for the time of the spells duration?
Maybe it would be nice if there was an indication how far the target is away (like darker color is near, lighter color far away)

Regarding maps...
I think automaps are for sissys only... it makes the place feel bigger and more real if you can get lost.
Maps as static items are okay - this is also realistic for playing in a medieval setting.
Knights using GPS and a navigation system (with 7" LCD and subwoofers after they visited MTV (medieval tuning veterans?) pimp my ride) - are yet unheard of.

Wow, someone who likes the DR! There are a lot of plans for its future - it will expand to an enormous size, with quests and dark NPCs and a plethora of interesting sights and things to do. But it will also be harder to die through accident, so it'll balance out.
DR is GREAT! Do you have a lot of complaints about it?! Well don't listen to them...
it's a really cool place (well maybe hot, if it is like the common idea of hell) with a great atmosphere...
And when I got an overdose of Rogue recently I decided... well I will just let somebody else kick this /&%$/$ *beep* - and take the time to wander about DR and have a close look at it instead of running like hell as if the DEVil was after me to get out there ASAP (pun intended  :P).
It is really worth while to take a closer look and in my opinion it is really one of the best maps in PS... just that it could be way bigger with more to explore. Thank you to the DEVs for DR

...enough praise for the Devs now... I will check now if I can't find anything to complain abou,t as it is expected of a player ..umm... tester  >o)

Well for starter you should definitly user MORE CAPITALS and of course more exclamationmarks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And smilies...

this proves your question is important and is regarded with favor...
...on nearly all other questions, you can of course consult the planeshift mainpage (www.planeshift.it) and this forum.

Rumor is, that it is even possible to read answers given on questions before - and get an answer without having to post questions again... but this is only hearsay of course.

</flame off>

Yarr.... more excessive smileys. -Karyuu

Actually nobody has to spawn... You can just avoid dying... and if you have to insist on biting the dust... hell - nobody forces you to get out of DR. Well maybe Satan will through you out one day (preseumably on the bottom level of Yliakum) being fed up with this constant whining about sour feet and the long way and stuff.

Just don't die... then you don't have to walk. I think people should get used to taking care of what they do... Perhaps you should have taken more then the old rotten baseball-club when you went hunting ulbernauts...

Or if you don't want teleport, then just have a /follow command
That would be great... or some automatic that allows you to run the same way again, following waypoints you set before. (Should be oneway only - would be to easy to get out of a labyrinth or something if it was just hitting the 'go back' buttin)
I think I found a thread on this issue somewhere a while ago... but well... if I could trace my steps back...

But regarding teleportation... to avoid it becoming commonplace travel method it might have some risks in it too...

As to be found in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy:
Quote
I teleported home last night
with Ron and Sid and Meg
Ron stole Meggy's heart away
and I got Sidney's leg.

General Discussion / Re: Questions About Repairing Weapons
« on: July 28, 2006, 01:00:45 pm »
Well I can repair my Claymore... (starting skill from character creation)
The quality raises when I repair, up to 50 ...but does it really make any difference?
BTW: You can start repairing an item several times, while you are already working on repairing.
It takes me 53 seconds to repair my claymore once. When I type /repair again a couple of times before the 53 seconds are over the second repair task is finished just after a couple of seconds after the first one has been done. This way I could repair this claymore from 0 to 50 points within 1 minute... Can't imagine this was done intentionally - was it?

...you'd die, have to go through the death realm and then restart at the begining of whatever area you were in.
Either that or just have everyone spawn in Hydlaa, I can't see what's wrong with that.
you are right there... especially with the problem new players can have there. But if nobody spawn there the place will get even more deserted... Therefore i would still vote in favour of random respawning. Maybe one day you can visit Ojaveda or the bronzedoors area and meet some people there :)
I am a bit irritated anyways, that there are so many players hanging around in Hydlaa only. I frequently visit the other places. Because I like them and give me the feeling of playing in a big world. Just one city... thats too small.
So everyone! Get out and go for a drink on Ojaveda or meet at the campfire in the bronzedoor region. ...but thats  :offtopic:  :)

A battlefield...
Hmm... maybe we'll get some quest some day... that is available only every 3 or 5 days (real time)
Someone gives you a task to search for whatever in the BD area. During the search you enter a cavern and open a small inconspicuous door, find the item and return it to your customer und you receive your reward. Everything seems to be fine...
...what you didn't know, the door was not (properly) closed again or just stirring around in their woke the attention of some nasty creatures, flooding the valley a couple of hours later attacking any players or maybe NPCs too that dare to pass by. Players have to gather to defeat the horde... until someone else goes in there and makes the monsters respawn.

*dream* that would be nice to have :)

Why not simply respawn where you die?
Directly in front of that Ulbernauts fist? Or in that bottomless pit I crashed down?
Perhaps there could be one respawn point for every area...

It's really annoying and even OOC. I.E. Someone could miss an event in hydlaa because they died.

Yeah... dying can be a bit inconvenient some times. I even heard that some people couldn't go to their own hundreds birthday, becaust they died before - this is really annoying. When I died last time i beat the hell out of Satan just because I was that bad-tempered...
Hey! That is what dying is about - if you are lucky. IRL people miss a lot more than a single event because they die.
Okay... enough flames :)
I am happy about Enkins spawning in Ojaveda... When getting there it is not always completely deserted - exactly due to that reason.
It would be good of course if all the other races got different spawn points too - or alternatively respawning should be random... as discussed e.g. here http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24736.0

There could even be portals that could transport you to a randomly choosen location, or to a once secret area....

Yeah we definitly need more stargates  ;D
No, just kidding.
IMHO Teleportation is good as long as it doesn't get commonplace like getting into a bus.
"Hey, darling. I was just hopping over to Ojaveda. Do you need anything? Some new carpets perhap?" :)

How could you forget about the oleplayers hymn
RING THEIR BELLS (aka "The Munchkin's Theme" )    to the tune of "Jingle Bells"
http://www.hack.org/~mc/writings/hackerdom/ring-their-bells.text

If you don't like clicking links... here a part of this:

Quote
Slashing through the Orcs
With a good two-handed blade
Over corpses we go
And through the gore we wade
Mace on helmet rings
Making bodies fly
What fun to sing our Slaying Song
And watch these suckers DIE!
...
well... got no Orcs and two-handed swords yet, but well see what time brings... If we eventually run of rats in the sewers  ;)

Chorus...
Quote
Oh, ring their bells with swords and spells
Don't let 'em get away!
We're brave and bold for fame and gold
We'll make a lot today!
Oh, ring their bells with swords and spells
Don't let 'em get away!
We'll hack and slash and blast and trash
And blow these dudes away!

and finally:
Quote
We appear in Hell
In front of Satan's throne
Our Cleric waves us out the door
And takes him on alone!
Satan's legions don't
Want to let us go
Our Techno pulls a bazooka out
And NUKES 'em 'till they GLOW!
Perhaps we should ask the Devs to upgrade DR... would be easier anyway... if you die you can continue fighting right where you are  :P

I think using DR as a shortcut buy jumping of a cliff, attacking ulbers barehandedly or just typing /die is a bit spoiling the game and really makes no sense from a RP point of view.
Therefore I think it would make sense to have several exits from DR which vary in their behaviour:
-put you to a random place in yliakum
-put you to your races hometown/spawnpoint
-teleport you somewhere within the DR

This would a) stop the DR shortcut abuse and b) make DR more interesting because you really might wander around a while before you get out, because you don't know when which exits leads to wich place.

The option to travel to DR by magical means without needing to die sounds good and would allow cool quests like 'find lost soul in DR and guide to get out' or something

Teleportation as a general travelmethod... yes sound good... but it should be really difficult even for advanced players (rituals needing rare ingredients, high level spells). To allow fast travel also for lower level players, there could be NPCs offering magical travel (for ridiculous amounts of money of course  ;):sorcerer:

I think if teleportation would become commenplace, PS would suffer from shrinking in the players perception. Therefore the normal travelmethod should stay walking...
