Respawning
« on: July 30, 2006, 04:23:19 am »
I'm not and Enki so this isn't a "Damn I have to walk so far to get to an actualy PLACE" thread. It's more of a question.

I would've searched for it, to see if there are anyother threads talking about this but I wasn't sure what to type in.

In every game there's a different name for them but it's those people that you talk to to "bind your soul" or however they put it in that certain game, so that when you die you respawn at that specified place.

My question is, are they planning to impliment that kind of system?I mean I think all the Enki's would be...well  \\o// :D  ...to put it shortly, happy.

IMO enkis get all the goodies like being first to show a certain armour, having alot of perks that will make them the char of choice in the future and, as the things are being planned, after all the world is "implemented" they will have the closest town to Hydlaa. But... they are still complaining about spawning too far.  ::| Well, think about spawning too far when you see a klyros passing you by without any chest armour but actually wearing a chainmail that doesn't show. Gosh, enkis spawn in Ojaveda and that's how it is suposed to be. Why so much complaining? I bet that you will say "thanks God that I'm not a Ynwn" when their spawn will be implemented.

Actually nobody has to spawn... You can just avoid dying... and if you have to insist on biting the dust... hell - nobody forces you to get out of DR. Well maybe Satan will through you out one day (preseumably on the bottom level of Yliakum) being fed up with this constant whining about sour feet and the long way and stuff.

Just don't die... then you don't have to walk. I think people should get used to taking care of what they do... Perhaps you should have taken more then the old rotten baseball-club when you went hunting ulbernauts...

Ok, I don't think I made myself clear, this isn't a "Damn i'm and Enki, and I have to spawn so friggen far away" post. This is a "Will there  be some kind of person to talk to, in the future of the game, who can do something so you spawn in that town instead of your original one" post.  ;D :D ;)

Plans for respawning are kind of all over the place and nowhere at all the moment. As the world expands (and probably soon), it's likely that you will respawn in the last area you died (though not exact /pos location). As for talking to someone in a town and then spawning there... I'm not sure :D It's a cool/strange idea - talk with a priest and they'll deal with the Dark Gods for you. It'll probably have to be complicated :P

Yeah, but as you said, this already happens in almost every game out there. IMHO, the Death Realm idea is absolutly brilliant. I've never really seen another game that actually punsihes you for dying, giving you more incentive not to die. I think it would be even better if they make it so you have to work your way back up from the depths of the D.R. That'll make you think twice before biting off more than you can chew. :surrender:

Wow, someone who likes the DR! There are a lot of plans for its future - it will expand to an enormous size, with quests and dark NPCs and a plethora of interesting sights and things to do. But it will also be harder to die through accident, so it'll balance out.

Man, thats going to be awesome. Making it harder to die by accident will be a god-send. I cant count how many times I've slipped down a hill and died by accident ::)

I thought slipping down a hill and dying was fixed a couple weeks ago?

Talad feels that in tabletop RPGs it is quite rare that you actually die and lose your character, so he would like to emulate that feel in PS.  Right now it is basically "random acts of senseless violence" but the vision is to enable you as players to take risks and feel the adrenaline without actually dying.  We want death to be a big deal and fairly rare.

Having said all this, I agree on the bind points.  They are quite common in MMO's and are good at giving the resurrected player some continuity from the action that killed him/her.  The other advantage to this feature is that it is quite easy to code. :-)  So you'll probably see it eventually in some form.

DR is GREAT! Do you have a lot of complaints about it?! Well don't listen to them...
it's a really cool place (well maybe hot, if it is like the common idea of hell) with a great atmosphere...
And when I got an overdose of Rogue recently I decided... well I will just let somebody else kick this /&%$/$ *beep* - and take the time to wander about DR and have a close look at it instead of running like hell as if the DEVil was after me to get out there ASAP (pun intended  :P).
It is really worth while to take a closer look and in my opinion it is really one of the best maps in PS... just that it could be way bigger with more to explore. Thank you to the DEVs for DR

...enough praise for the Devs now... I will check now if I can't find anything to complain abou,t as it is expected of a player ..umm... tester  >o)

The last time it happened was this past Monday (7-31-06), so I dont guess it was completly fixed. Maybe I should fire PS up and go try to slip and fall, I might have found a virtual banana peel out there ::|

No  ;D Don't get me wrong I love the DR ;), I actually do though, it's such a unique crazy idea that it makes it good. But I mean that when you finally get out of the DR should you respawn where you died, or talk to somekind of priest to bind your soul, or just respawn at the place where your character started.
