exactly the same problem here.
i doubt its due to poor pc (athlon 2,400, 512 ram drr etc) its something with sound system of the game.

i hope they will solve that problem, i just made my first sound mod for PS (replacing almost entire /battle folder)....

As for the basic interface design, Lineage2 is pretty much following the standard that I see in pretty much every mmorpg.  Its a standard because its clean, its informative, and it just works.

precisely.
and there is a java emulator for lineage2, which is supposed to be opensource :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L2J
perhaps devs could take a look and see if there is something useful in these files ;)

well..
I am quite amazed that point'n'clik with mouse is not implemented here, and even considered unimportant.
i was playing lineage2 for quite a moment, where it is, it works well, it makes game much easier to play,
and you can focus on other things, you dont have to strain your toes with pressing arrows all the time.
you point, character starts to walk to that point, and if there is a pit beetwen you and target you fall in.
any interface keys are assigned to alt+ key  while f1 ..f10 corresponded to a quickbar shortcut icons.

let me desrcibe lineage2 interface with an example. while i dont like game very much because its mainly pvp/pk, and for other reasons(like pre designed character builds), i think its interface and movement system is just the best :)
[[YES i know that PS is opensource project with budget 0 and lineage2 is a commercial mmorpg, but thats really not excuse ;) ]]

you can see a screen here, instantly noticing an iterface - its very well made, icons are small, you can arrange their position on the screen as you like them, also there are no fancy ornaments (like that tree motive in inventory window in PS) that make it very clear and easy to use. in PS we have big brown buttons and fancy windows, that isnt very good idea for me.

ok.
in the right is mentioned quickbar, in left bottom part of the screen you can see a chat box.
since all commands are assigned to either F1 -F10 keys, or performed with alt/ctrl + key, whatewer common key you press will make its letter apear in chat box, like pressing wsad and enter will make your character to say wsad :) so keyboard is used mainly for chating.
thats the problem, apart from weird movement in PS, there is also issue with typing an answers and switching between BIG  chat box and  world - you can accidentaly click chat box and be unable to stop autorun in time.
play l2 for a moment you will understand why this system is effective while very simple at the same time.

you could try implement that system into PS! this would really make it great and would attract more players (every single person I know that played in PS complains about player movement, so...)

I dont know if I make myself clear enough, its late in the night, so i will make it short and sweet:
player movement and interface system is not something that can wait till better times.
it is one of most important things in the game.
you can have skills and models not implemented, but not the interface and player movement.
easy and intuitive interface is what makes difference between good and not-so-good games, it really does matter for many people, of course you can get used to PS system, you can get used to anything really, but thats not the point.

regards,

Wish list / Re: Clothing Options
« on: August 02, 2006, 04:36:07 pm »
Hey there,

I just read this topic, and there was an idea proposed:
My thoughts on clothing:
I'd like to have a 3 layer system.  Armor, clothing, equipment.
was in Black Crypt for example workde fine, making inv window smaller, you had to switch between layers to put items on.

Quote
Players could pick from any colors, lists of patterns, and material types to fully customize their clothing and some equipment.  Right now, everyone looks exactly the same.  I'd eventually like to have things like this to individualize characters.  Not only would it be a nice addition of variety, but it'd make simply telling people appart much easier.

you dont have to create new models for every clothing ;)
you remember Baldur's Gate?
in that game players could choose two colours of their armors.

you could go exactly the same way in PS, at current development stage of game :)
this could be done by having NPC with options to change colours of armor, and later by implementing dyes
(alchemists whould have a new job), and some resources to create these dyes (animal parts, plants etc)

seems to be easier to put two variables into textures, than creating new models for every clothing.
of course this will need a window where you can put armor and select avalaible colors palette, but!

and with making clothes, they could be produced with default colour based on material used, than dyed into black, green etc :)

guilds could than make rules so that every member should have major armor color set to red for example.

General Discussion / Re: The "don't spoil" spirit has gone too far.

And for the "People not interested in RP" at all but still being "fully welcome to play the game"..
what about a non-RP server in the (far) future?
I'm currently reading forum, its my first time in PS (ok, i played for a moment in january)
and I just realized it will be even more hard-core experience than i expected.

I played Arkadia (biggest polish mud) for somewhat like 2 years and i decided to move to graphical mmorpgs for one reason:
"open leather bag
put all gold coins in the bag
 close leather bag"
etc etc etc..... lol, people still are amazed when they see me typing SO FAST... now you know the reason.

an idea of non-rp server of PS is great because of two reasons:
first - english is not my first language, so i will have to play rather silent character, unless i want to spent more time reading dictionary than actually playing. And for me PS is quite a unique for many reasons, so i would like not to get-banned-by not being RP enough.
and sometimes I really need to ask someone for something, like "where can I train strength?" etc.

second reason is this. you played muds, so you know "smile happily" "scream loudly" "smile gently" etc etc, in muds you can express feelings in many ways, limited to what was implemented by dev team.
in graphical mmorpg how can you smile happily or gently? in PS in particular, how do you want to play your char with that ugly faces? :)
easy way to "smile" are (; (: [: (:< , but emoticons can ruin RP completely >.<', yet they remain easy way to express emotions ^^

kk enough of this spamming :)  gotta kill some rats and earn Tria ;)

PvP,PK and Thieving / Re: GOOD PVP systems
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:10:59 am »
I see PS is developing nicely ^^

anyway - - I just came from Lineage2, which is all about pvp,pk,siege etc, you level up and get better grades to kick
other players harder.

but that's what whole game l2 is about.

as for PS and its rpg feeling, implementing such system would be suicidal.
best idea is here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24374.0
EvE really has it done well.

and PS is much like EvE, with its great advantage over L2 that you can have your own character build,
you can go and harvest precious resources instead of killing-that-stupid-mob-thousands-times.

It is possible to take EvE system directly into PS, making great cities and surrounding areas a hi-lvl security zones,
with countryside less secured and with some no-mans land. There can be patrols in low-sec areas that will hunt pk

Add to it some kind of greater conflic between good & evil, like some major religies, so the players could join
one side or the other (or stay neutral) and gain bonus(god's favor?) while killing members of opposite force (and penalty after killing their side)
If results of such conlict could have impact on the world (like city being overrun by evil after they besiedged it) this would give players something to - guild can then join forces to protect some valuable mine somewhere in the wasteland from common enemy, instead of fight each other.

uhm, i think that there is quite "natural" way of reducing PvP, that is, make players dependand on one another.
the more cooperation needed to acheive wanted goal, the less fight between bored pc.
see the EvE, where alone you will be noone, where you must work together with others or you will die.
there is very little pvp between low-lvl chars, as mentioned in link given above, but there are often raids and skirmishes between corporation operatives.
on the other hand you have Lineage2, where you can play from beginning to the very 78 lvl almost alone, clan not needed, friends not needed, only bots/dualbox etc. there you get killed just outside newbie towns.

Since PS has nice skills system that coul be developed further to allow truly support characters to arrive, no inteligent person would kill an alchemist who supplies entire city with potions, or enchanter who creates nice items, or a smith who crafts something needed, cause they can stop trading with that pk.

ok this post is getting already too long... one last word about dropping equipment. this can be solved with giving a "soulbound" properity to items, and at the same time setting some limit of how many "soulbound" items player can equip(this could be increased by some skill or what). these would stay with player after death, but all other items in inventory would have a certain % chance to be dropped.

well i have exactlly same problem ;/
my guess is that reason is in how planeshift uses graphic drivers - with current version of mine on ra9600 pro i had similiar problem in Homeworld 2.

I hope there will be fix for this soon..... :(

i went on a journey, and i have found very strange place.
here you have a camera position where everything is fine
