Hello !

Im trying it on Ubuntu Gutsy with Gnome, I have already copied the libvorbisfile.so.3 into libs and still get:

./psclient.bin: symbol lookup error: libs/libvorbisfile.so.3: undefined symbol: vorbis_synthesis_idheader

As base I have: libvorbisfile.so.3.2.0

Can this be a wrong version of this file which does not include this symbol ?
Or any other ideas ?

Complaint Department / Re: RP or not Rp ... is that the question?
« on: March 20, 2007, 08:07:02 pm »
Hello everybody !

I am completly with you Fozzharn. At the moment the complaints from RP-only members are something to complain about.
I am often under the impression that most of them are better off with a chatroom than in a game with mechanics.

I also pray that the dev's do not read these threads because if I would be a dev of PS I would stop to develope the game machine because it looks like it is not needed. Please dev's don't do that - there are players in this game who want to have some RP AND the game mechanics, because both is fun.

General Discussion / Re: Planeshift, Roleplaying and More.

What would you think of someone that would enter a game of tennis with you just because they like rackets? That person wouldn't be playing tennis, it would be just staring at the racket all the time. Would you contend with such a person?

Hello !

To move on in your picture:
If the person joins the same tennis club as I do - why should I care (equally to: Loging in to PS)
If he sits around beside the courts or wanders around between them and admires his racket - why should I care (equally to: Using the PS game mechanics)
If he is just standing at the other side of my court and doing nothing - here I would care and ask him to move a few meters so that I can do what I want to now (equally to: OOC chat in main tab)

So live and let live !

This is why I gave up on RP in PS and have given up on PS. It seems to me to be an utter waste of time to RP when 3/4 of the people around you are talking about the latest cold play album or jumping around like drunk garden gnomes. What ever happened to enforcing RP on PS? There is far far too much tolerance of people who either don't know or donlt care what RP is. Kick them off, PS will be better off whithout them in the long run and there are plenty of free hack and slash powergaming mmorpg's for them to go to.

Hello !

I think now it is time to act on behalf of me and surely some others:

Dear RP-puritans !

PS is more than roleplay ! It also has quest in, and crafting is also part of this game as all the other game mechanics. So please also respect all these people who enjoy this side of PS.

Sunshine

PS: I would also not like to hear a discussion of RL issues in the game, but honestly I never saw one so far.

General Discussion / Re: PS organisational issues and some proposels

Hi !

I have worked (and I am still working) in small and big projects which were solely based on volunteers. The difference was that these projects always ran in RL and therefore a failure would have had real consequences. And maybe another important difference is that these projects were mainly within an movement which trains his followers from the first day on in Teamwork.

The most important things I learned there:
- To meet the dead lines you have to delegate.
- When you delegate give exact goals. That does not mean that you prescribe every little step, but you have to describe the final outcome exactly.
- To ensure a consistency within the project the general settigs must be defined exactly.
- You have to have a open comunication within the team to prevent things missed or done double.
- You have to monitor the status of each team regularly - but only act if you see deviations. If they are on track only a few encouriging words are needed.
- From time to time you have compile an overview for everybody on the team so that everybody knows whats going on.

I see it in my job that this way is not always easy - especially for the bosses since they have to hand over some authorities, but believe me with some coaching almost everybody (and especially comitted people) can learn to work in teams, and the team output boosts.

Finally I want to add that I did such things even with kids and in 9 out of 10 cases the kids surpised with their part of the project - and believe me after 20 years you are not easily surprised anymore.

So I can only advice every teamleader: Be confident in your team and delegate !

Hi !

Gold is definitively much too easy to mine. Yesterday it took me 12 tries to dig 4 lumps of gold ore - and my character is level 1 in mining !

Hello !

I can also confirm the problem with leaving tracks on a SUSE 10.0. with a NVidia card. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it is terrible.

In addition I cannot see the dirt roads on both ojaroad maps. The whole ground is a uniform greenish texture.

Edit: I forgot 1024 x 768 in Fullscreen

Hello !

After looking around a bit the following solution worked for me:

In the file ./data/servers.xml I had to change the port number from 7333 to 7777 !
<server name="Fragnetics" ip="laanx.fragnetics.com" port="7777" />

Now it works on my linux system.
