General Discussion / Re: Crafting system

What doesn't make sense?

Sometime in the future new trainers will be added, so:
- metallurgy will go higher then 10, thus you will be able to make better steels stocks...
- blacksmithing ... you will get better weapon parts
- item making(sword, knife, shield) ... you will make better weapons.

It all makes perfect sense... When the time is right and the new trainers are made you will be able to make 300/300 again :)

But until it does, we will just have to do with the current skills. I think it's nice that if you want something, you must work hard for it. That is just how life is ;)

I couldn't agree more with joshua6021...

In real world, warriors usually didn't make weapons for themselfs(knights, paladins,samurais,...), that was the job of people called blacksmiths. Mainly that is because warriors spend most of their life training combat, while blacksmiths were working with metals for their whole lifes. So if a warrior would just go and try to make himself a weapon, he would probablay make a really bad weapon if he'd made one at all. So if this games tries to reflect the real world, this is the way to go.

It would be nice if you got Progression points with doing all of this, but I guess it will be possible in the future.  :beta:

With this system we are just one step closer to what this game is going to be. An realistic imitation of an medivial world.

P.S.:I myself have no problems with crafting bad weapons... I spent many hours training to get my blacksmithing to 11 and the best weapon I made was an 81/81 dagger, and when I had 10, best weapon was 72/72, but you don't see me complaining. I enjoy to see, that all my hard work actually has some resaults, not just 300/300 right away.

 :)

You're the best... Finally a good crafting system.

I think the system as it is now is great and most of all fair. It's nice to know that crafting stats now actually mean something. I hope this means that crafters will finally make some decent living. ;)

All the best to the devs and to the helpful GM's.

I don't honestly think that ATI drivers have anything to do with it... I'm experiencing the same problems...
Before update, everything was OK.

These are just a few things from the errorlog:

<src/client/psclientdr.cpp:196 HandleDeadReckon> Got DR message for unknown entity 1258.
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_left_1.png<
<src/common/paws/pawstexturemanager.cpp:380 CreateTexture> Could not open image: >/paws/base/maps/leather/top_right_1.png<

There are many many more outputs like this, but they are mostly in the same manner, so I won't copy them all.

I guess the updater messed something up with these leather armor items and other stuff.
Hope you find the solution :)

Oh, and I tried reinstalling it.

p.s.: It's fun having no torso :P

It actually runs great in Xgl.(atleast in my case). I ran it without problems, it is just a matter of setting your drivers up correctly.

P.S.: If you use Ubuntu, there are tons of guides on how to do it on the Ubuntu forums. Good luck.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I am progressings slowly trough the game, and I have some questions... (Note that I have used Search:) )  :detective:

I got a book from a quest I did, and I wonder if there is any way of using it? I found out, that you can place in the Mind field of the inventory, bu thats about it...

I conclude, that if you place it there, in time you will "read" it... Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly, let me say hello, to all of you...

I have just sailed in the PlaneShift waters a few days ago. just to check it out and see what it is all about.

My first impressions are great. I needed some time to adjust to the new setting, as I never played an acctual RP, only MMORPGS like WoW, RYL2, Carpe Diem,... but I always got bored, having nothing to do but kill monsters for the most of the time. Frist thing is this truly remarkable community, always willing to help, I had most pleasant experiances in the game with some nice people. They had me started in the game as I'm now getting some idei of what this game is all about.

I also like the aspect of learning skills, as it is much closer to me and to the real life, then just leveling up. Now I can truly make my character as I want him to be. I also like how the game treats weapons, as I just hate those games where you have to be level X to carry the sword Y. I mean, I can wear any sword in real life, but that doesn't mean I can use one :) (If my observations about the weapon system are inncorrect, I humbly apologise.)

I also got the hang of my new character, who was mainly created just for exploring the world. He now has a goal in life. As he was raised by humans, he didn't have the chance to communicate with his dwarf race, so he is now on a quest to reunite with his race, learn their ancient crafts and their language. So he is to become a master blacksmith :)

Well it is simple, but it is a start in my (hopefully long) RP carrer :)

All the best to all of you, and ofcourse the development team, who have made such a remarkable game possible.

P.S.: English is not my nativ language, so I apologise for the mistakes.
