1. An npc that could hold an item for another player to pick up later (not to sell the item or to store the item) maybe a charge if you are selling the item to another player. the npc sells the item to the other player for the amount you specify or free and when the other player picks up the item you can go back and get your money. This would be helpful if I'm in Hydlaa and have to leave the game and can't wait on player x to get there from oja or bd, etc...or they are offline themself.

2. bigger/harder death realm

I just have to step in here and say that standing by a trainer, or elsewhere, casting magic for the sole purpose of raising your level is just wrong. This is not limited to magic of course, training your armor by standing in a swarm of critters that cannot hurt you is the same thing, There are probably other similar things I cannot think of right now. This is not playing the game to me this is gaming the mechanics. I have lost respect for more than one prominent character after seeing them do this. To me combining roleplaying with levelling demands that you only use skills when they are useful. I do understand the temptation and cannot say that I have never succumbed to it, especially in the two cases I mentioned. Magic is underpowered at low levels and takes a long time and armor training is only available via pvp if the npcs are down or not fighting back. Still I prefer to get my practice naturally. Now if you want to fight a swarm of rats that cannot hurt you to train your magic and armor at the same time it is different than just letting them attack you or repeatedly healing yourself when you are undamaged.

That is just me though, I suppose.

You have to remember that an army trains not just in war but in peacetime and usually in a safe area. Also I would assume that when they train their trainers are fairly close by. It would almost seem wrong if you didn't train next to your trainer. I guess you could always move 20 feet to the left or something  :P  Shutting up now :-X ;D

You also don't have to have a strong literary background...it does help quite a bit, but respect for the English language and willingness to participate in storylines helps more.

I agree you don't have to have a strong literary background. This may be what keeps some people from roleplaying. Here is a different take on that and this might help with "bringing pl and rp'ers together"

When you want to roleplay but are not completly comfortable that you will make a mistake or mispell something don't worry about it. Using words like "ye" (side note: I hate that word) and others like "thus" and "thee" are not necessary. Talk like you do if you are not comfortable trying to come up with big fancy words or some strange dialect.

Also, spelling. You have to remember that ic your char is hearing and not reading what others are saying. As long as you come close to how something you want to say is spelled don't worry about it. In rl I might not know how to spell something but I know how to say it. When someone hears me say that word they will not in return say to me 'hey I think you spelled that wrong', right?

Words like through - threw and see - sea should be used in there correct form but just in case you do mess up, big deal. The other chars ic'ly should have heard you just fine  ;)

Roleplay and have fun, isn't that what this is all about.

These types of post I assume are always started by the "rp'ers". I think it is ironic that the "powerlevelers" don't really care and are the laid back ones even though their goal is to be a bad arse and kick booty.

All joking aside, I was a "powerleveler" when I started but role play more now. In fact I don't really train at all anymore. I think everyone wants to have a strong character at first, and then that gets boring, and they either leave or start roleplaying. I for one finally figured out that I could either grind and grind until one day I could kill an ulber with one hit or win the occactional duel; or I could never train again and start roleplaying/questing/etc., and save myself several weeks/months of kill kill kill train train train.

I always roleplayed while I "powerleveled" anyway. At least the "powerlevers" seem to have a job. Isn't that more reflective of exsistance than sitting around a tavern drinking all day :P  Oh wait, I guess some people do that in rl as well.  ;D

Point is, if some don't want to "roleplay" than ignore them if you don't like it. If they want to come roleplay the guy/girl that has been off on a great journey and visit the city on occasion when they are taking a break from leveling up their armor than so be it. They will not ignore you when you decide that you really want to level up your (insert skill here) and go train next to them.

Complaint Department / Re: Communication (or lack thereof)

Guess what I did tonight and last night and the night before that. I spent extra time with my girlfriend and wasn't in a rush at the end of the night to get home to ps. Take a series of unfortunate events or in this case a single event (server being down) and really helped improve my relationship even more with her.

At the end of the night I come home and check the server, still down....more time with her tomorrow night. I might even hang up some clothes for a change instead of neglecting that choir to play ps. I encourage everyone to take this time to take care of things that need to be done instead of constantly monitoring the server. That way when it does come back up you want have to put off things because they will already be done.

It will be up soon enough and I look very forward to when it is, but until then...rl

Silidrea, I feel your pain  ;) Unfortunatly letting the updater do it's job  ::| doesn't work in this case because it thinks it has done it's job and tells you to hit enter to exit.

Try this. Copy the updaterinfo.xml and name the copy updaterinfo.xml.bak. The updater now seems to recognize the updaterinfo.xml file....at least for me anyway.\

Hope you are still around Silidrea and haven't given up. Let me know what it does.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Re: Updater broken

The updater is still saying Can't read file this/updaterinfo.xml.bak and Failed to remove file this/updaterinfo.xml.bak

*Update* If you are having this problem copy your updaterinfo.xml file and save it as updaterinfo.xml.bak in your ps directory. It will be a dead file but the updater seems to now recognize the updaterinfo.xml file.

dont do it to psupdater do it to updaterinfo.xml and if it is now named .xml.xml then you dont have file extensions visible.

You were correct! I didn't have file extensions visible. For others it's tools, folder options, view, then uncheck hide extensions for known file types.

btw it was updaterinfo.xml

I'll edit here when I have more information or figure it out or have an update.

*NEW* The updater is still saying Can't read file this/updaterinfo.xml.bak and Failed to remove file this/updaterinfo.xml.bak
I've done everything I can think of. The updater runs fine on a laptop with vista but the client fails after the char screen. On this xp which is the computer I always use the updater keeps saying the messege above. I put the new client on disk and put it one this computer manually and the client opens up as 0.4.2 but never loads to the login screen. I can usually figure it out but am having trouble this time.

click on the file one time in explorer and press F2 then rename the file if file extensions are not shown make sure they are in options [somewhere].

Thank you so much Caarrie :-*. I've been looking at that file all afternoon. I didn't recognize it because it is simple titled 'psupdater' So I did what you said and changed it, but when I add .xml and run the updater it now comes up as 'psupdater.xml.xml'

This is so strange. It didn't/doesn't have anything about .bak in it except for showing up as such within the updater itself.

Ok I've read all of the links that were provided in this thread and none helped with this issue.

I'm having the updaterinfo.xml.bak messege as well. Where do I need to go in my computer to change the updaterinfo.xml.bak to updaterinfo.xml?

If there is a link that will explain this in detail that would be appreciated. I've noticed others asking this and the links aren't helping. I've done everything in the links that were explained there and it was easy. This is a new step that I can't figure out.

Hanace asked "Where do i change the title at?" That is what I can't figure out either.

I've run the .4.01 updater over and over and over again.

Wish list / Re: Trading Post

So getting back to why I orginally brought this back up with my spin. Seeing what was said are good ideas but it can be very simple.

An NPC that would hold an item for you for another player to pick up. Unless this NPC is a buddy of yours  :P They will probably want to charge a small storage/convienance fee for the service. To eliminate people from using this as a storage facility there could be a week limit for holding an item or no more than 2 or 3 items per say.

If this turns into a poster board npc for selling you might as well eliminate the auction tab and I don't think anyone would like to see that happen. It sounds like a good idea, but I think just a simple package drop off merchant would be more likely to being implemented.

If you have something new and cool to add to an old thread, you have the green flag to do so. The rule about old threads is not to revive them with simple comments such as "I agree" or "That's a good idea" or to repeat what was already said in that thread.

Ideas on markets and bazaars are very common - but I don't think I personally have seen a suggestion with an NPC like that.

With that being said I have a new spin on this idea. I did an extensive search and this thread was the closest to what I have in mind. This is a wonderful idea but you could also set the market up so that you could drop an item off for someone else to pick up for a small fee.

Why? Because lets say I might be going to get some lake mushrooms and x char ask if I would pick some for them while they go fight rogues in Oja. When I return to Hyldaa I could drop them off at this market and and pay a small fee or choose to let char x pay the fee when they pick them up. This way if my char or their char "goes to bed" before a meeting could be established the favor could still be accomplished. I once held several coal ores for someone and didn't see them for days.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: [Event] Unlawful Connections
« on: July 27, 2008, 06:31:09 am »
A big thank you for all the baddies that joined the event and the goodies who tried to stop them. Special thanks to the hostages. We hope you all enjoyed the event despite the glitches.

Please note that the baddies were at all times wearing robes that covered their faces so unless they let you recognize their voices, witnesses should not be sure about their involvement in the crime committed. Please post your screenies and logs. Thank you.

Oh! And the baddies that missed their reward, hit me up ingame.

Yes it was great fun being a hostage locked to the floor unable to revolt for two hours. :P

About the baddies wearing robes that covered their faces, well, I was there when they robed up so I got to see all of their faces before they did so.  ;D

How about the "goodies" reward. I don't think a sore hiney counts. :@#\

I'm so glad you posted this. I was actually thinking of posting something just like this. I've been a registered user here for months and have played planeshift nearly everyday for a year but never post anything on the forums. The reason being that a few always seem to think that just because a post exsist that their negative opinion is wanted.

The guild section seems to be one of the worst sections. Someone comes up with a guild and many feel they automatically have to bash everything about it.

There are a few that are almost always blatantly rude and/or negative . They are not better than anyone else like they think they are. One person in particular that is almost always rude gave a hint at their age and that did help explain a lot however. Perhaps one day the forums will be rid of these people and then maybe others will start posting here or posting here once again.

This is the first post I've felt led to respond to in, well, ever.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: bug with buttons

I recommend you to buy a decent graphics card. Not only is the 1150 so bad that it can hardly be called a graphics card, it's also unsupported by Ati. Secondly, the whole Vista+Games thing isn't really working out yet.

Also, is this system a laptop?

It is a laptop.....boo....that is probably it! I am downloading the game to my desktop pc right now, but it's on dial up so in a couple of days I will know the problem for sure:) Thanks everyone for your help!
