i have a similar problem with the landscape. its all pitch black. i can see in the city and sewers. i can also see the forest path to the magic house with the snakes. but through the other exit of the city is basically pitch black.
im running on a vista with all available updates.

alot of problems with games and windows Vista can be solved by downloading a graphics update from the mircrosoft website http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a156e265-40ff-468e-bba2-3d1e1929c416&DisplayLang=en that and running the game as an administrator should bypass all firewall settings.
