Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Client crash
« on: August 09, 2008, 04:52:58 pm »
short answer: Something got broken :)

Long answer: Really! It seems as if a file in the ps-folder gets broken sometimes when PS crashes. This is what I experienced: I had a working 0.4.01-folder plus a copy of the whole folder. After one of the usual crashes of planeshift (after trying to quit it), the client suddenly did not work anymore but quit during load. I then tried the client in my backup-ps-folder and that worked usually. So what I would suggest you (to be dead-sure): Make a backup of your working ps-gamefolder and never (!) use that to actually play but as a backup only, from which you can get a working copy again.

yar... i have been thinking along the same lines - a lesson learnt... since this hiccup, i have been experiencing other problems with loading certain regions, out of bounds notifications and the sort, but it apparently is a known Mac PPC bug that seems to me varies between 10.3 10.4 and 10.5. So at this stage there is little I can do but check back for if/when a more stable (for my specs at least) version is released... or finally get around to getting myself an intel for at home...

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Some Maps Not Working...
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:09:09 pm »
Caarie - I have been talking with someone in-game who had similar problems (not on mac) but managed to fix it by replacing the affected maps with maps from 4.0 - I would like to try it (if you think it has any chance of working?) but unfortunately I didn't make a backup of 4.0 (or the initial 4.01 update on 29.06.2008) and the links available are only for the latest version (the one from the mirror in Sweden isn't working)...

from reading the posts here and on the bugtracker, there may also be discrepancies on which maps do and don't work between the various versions of OS X running on PPC. i.e. 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 sound like they are having the same sort of problems but with different maps since the 4.01 update on 21.07.2008.

Wish list / Re: Shield Designs
« on: July 28, 2008, 06:19:30 pm »
ok... so my idea wasn't new as this is an old thread (although something similar has more "recently" been wished again http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=31881.0)...

but here goes...

I recently created some artwork for the guild I am in - http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32584.0  - and thought it would look great if it could be decaled onto a shield and mounted to the wall inside our new guildhouse:

;) yeah... I know it's probably a bit big for a shield but it's the idea...

the guild members I have talked with really liked the idea and the discussion included possibly being able to craft Darkwarmonger shields... if not, at least being able to have the design on shields would be a welcome addition.

perhaps some way of submitting your 'coat of arms' or symbol when you buy a house would work? I had a good read of this thread - http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=28479.0 and thought maybe this could be a way of getting some user generated content into the game...

generally it takes a fair amount of tria to buy a house and therefore a decent amount of time, resources and general commitment to playing PlaneShift. Vetting the design of the artwork by the settings team shouldn't (hopefully) be too overwhelming if they're only looking at artwork for houses bought by guilds (or for the more enterprising individual with the necessary tria to throw around).

PlaneShift Mods / Re: Glass and paper gui skin
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:05:46 am »
really nice gui to play with Cherppow  \\o// well done!

For some reason it doesn't work for me, I got it, put the zip in the skins folder, selected with the setup, but i end up using the default skin, any idea why?

BTW i'm running a mac OSX

I got the gui to work on this Mac:

OS X 10.4.11
iMac G5
PowerPC G5  (3.1)
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
ATI Radeon 9600: 128 MB

If you try downloading it via Safari, it may decompress the zip file (single left click opens a new window and then starts downloading). This is what happened to me the first time and rezipping the downloaded folder didn't help.

Instead, try right clicking (or for those poor souls with a single button mouse then Control and click) and choose Download Linked File - this doesn't open a new window but instead just starts the download process. Do not unzip the file. Follow the rest of the instructions as stated and it should load up.

ok.... after MANY MANY hours of going over and over the various fixes thinking I may have overwrote files in the updating process from the other night, watching the updater in console repeatedly trying to update certain files (which it did eventually until I was asked to hit [enter]) PlaneShift still wouldn't work... so I wiped it.

downloaded 4.01 from here: http://www.planeshift.it/download.html (i first downloaded (195MB) from the Internode link, but that didn't work (Error -1 ??? - arrrrrggggghhh!) so I downloaded AGAIN but from Xordan (344Mb))

also downloaded the additional psupdater patch from the same page.

fired up PlaneShift and it now works...

now... I didn't start going through this whole update process until PlaneShift was abruptly quiting on me as outlined in my first post. Up until then 4.01 had been running...

anyone have any ideas why this happened?

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: User System Specs
« on: July 26, 2008, 07:12:59 am »

Computer type: iMac G5
Mac OS Version: 10.4.11
Processor: 2GHz, PowerPC G4
RAM: 1GB
Video Card (type, VRAM): ATI Radeon 9600: 128 MB

Planeshift runs (y/n): Y (although just recently No - http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33194.0
Average FPS: Not too sure - but ATI settings at max with 4.0 and 4.01, in-game distance options set to 1000. Mostly no need anymore for using Adaptive Settings in-game
Platform-specific bugs encountered: No more lag in Hydlaa since 4.01 (new lag problems with Oja Road 2) and a range of new bugs since 4.01 (all show up in the bugtracker). Guildhouse is also now very laggy, but could be due to amount of items stored in there, but it was fine with 4.0... GMs have been most helpful in moving my character when needed

Have a look at your Processor Performance - Open up System Preferences, click on Energy Saver and then click on the Options button. There should be a selection menu next to Processor Performance. Try setting it to Automatic.

I used to have problems a while back with my imac sounding like a jet taking off and just generally overheating until I set it to Automatic... It might help...

hiya Caarrie... the client crashes with both characters. The client goes through the motions of loading a PS map but crashes about half way through the process. My main character (klyros) was trying to leave Ojaveda when the client crashed. My new alt character (kran) hasn't had a chance to enter the PS world proper so I can't say which map the client is trying to be load (ie. I don't know where my alt character spawn point would be, although I assume it would be a hydlaa map so the alt character can go through the tutorial?).

P.S. I have tried going onto the IRC channel for PlaneShift but the last few times I have been hacked within minutes of entering... I'm sure there are ways of avoiding this but I am a complete noob when it comes to IRC...

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Client crash
« on: July 25, 2008, 09:16:53 pm »
Hi all... hope someone here can help me...

PlaneShift was working fine (after several 'lost connection's and a server restart) and then I tried to leave Ojaveda. As the client went to load the next map the client crashed. I have tried to set up an alt character - have gone through all the character creation steps - but when it went to load the game the client crashed again. I have been trying to connect back in for a while now (noticing that the server is either online, Failed or even Locked) - it shows that the connection is there at the moment but still crashes each time on loading the PS world...

I ran batch tasks using MainMenu (reset permissions, clean caches etc etc.), restarted and ran the psupdater. I checked in console and the psclient is all up to date.

Also noticed in the crashlog it says the version is 4.00 but I know it is actually 4.01. I did notice it update again with a version 4.01.13(?) during the week - I have had various new in-game bugs since the 4.01 update which have already been reported in the bugtracker, so I thought updating might have helped to fix a few of those. One of the bugs was the problem with losing 'focus' during attacks... it seemed to have been fixed after the server restart tonight, but now I have this complete client crash  :(

I have gone through the various Mac fixes and edited the files as suggested - I had done this previously when I first started playing PlaneShift but have just now edited them again as they were overwritten due to the 4.01 update.

Specs on my computer are:
OS X 10.4.11
iMac G5
PowerPC G5  (3.1)
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
ATI Radeon 9600: 128 MB

All System Updates have been done.

I can email/pm both crashlogs (console.log and psclient_static.crash.log) if someone wants to have a look at them...

Edit: I just reset the ATI settings to lowest and client still crashes.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Getting the updater working.
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:14:45 pm »
ok... followed all the instructions above and thought the updater wasn't working - the icon for the updater appeared in the dock but I couldn't see anything was happening. I think what threw me was a lack of a progress window like most would probably expect when updating an app. I saw a new macosx_4.0.1.zip (or something similar to that) file go in the PlaneShift folder after running the psupdater (with the modified updaterinfo.xml as mentioned above) - it was only until I clicked the zip file again and saw that the size of it had increased that I realized what it was doing...  ::)

also, opening the console app (Applications/Utilities/Console) helped me to see what was being updated (maui's post got me onto that one).

Downloading update file..

Update finished!

Updater finished, press enter to exit.
Crystal Space for MacOS/X 1.4.0 [MacOS/X-powerpc-GCC]

then opened the new 4.0.01 psclient and into hydlaa I went... admittedly I lost server connection after about 5 minutes but I did get to see some very nice new art for my armour and weapons in the inventory... hoping I can get back in again soon...
