How about \"everyone died\"?

then if you expect someone to play after the wipe, you could say that children survived, and here we are NN years later with all the inexperienced chars!

well it\'s not that big of a problem - kill them with magic and loot them remotely - works like a charm.

i think there could be small variations in light, but to simmulate a sunset and night inside a cave just doesn\'t seem right :P  ;)

The crystal which lits up the cave gets its light from the sun on the outside world. So day/night cycles are perfectly reasonable.

Greetings,

Oh it does? I must\'ve missed that part in the storyline...

Dimaq Emerald

The first name is a bit lame I guess, could be shortened to dq (which looks stylish) but PS insists on proper (argh) capitalization. Anyhow, it is my all-around nickname/account name/etc.

Emerald was a choice based on the fact that I wanted to keep a trace from Molecular Blue days, and wanted to show off my (in-game, ill-gained) riches and the fact that PS/CB didn\'t let me adjust the character colour like MB did and since there was no Klyros back then, I had to settle for a female enkidukai (which is green, thus green crystal,  thus emerald).

A tad too logical eh?

I read it alright.

It is indeed so that cheating inevitably paves the way to more cheating.

As long as PS is in active development, some cheaters can be considered testers, that is that they find a hole, report it and don\'t exploit it anymore...

Yeah right, the truth is, if the hole is not closed, there\'s really no reason for the tester to stop testing the same place, after all there could be more neat side effects just waiting to be found...

In short, good cheaters are only useful if the game (mgmnt, dev) is prepared to fix the bugs quickly. Currently that isn\'t the case. Currently it\'s we\'ll just scare all the cheaters with a db wipe. When PS is released it might work. I hope it will.

I personally can\'t decide whether it\'s even possible to play the game and do any of the out-of-game things, like moderating or testing at the same time.

get yourself a socket 939 mobo. I guess for the time being you can be quite happy with AGP, SATA and 3 or 4 memory slots.

Alright, enough Seytra/Clover arg.... discourse.

point is planeshift could be made to support or oppose segregation based on race.

now if all races were created equal, what would be the point of having them other than aestetic (imo bad)?

if there was alot of segregation it would indeed lead to players selecting their characters just to enable them to complete these and those tasks (also bad).

i would also be wary of \"slightly\" approach (e.g. this race is slightly brighter, that is slightly stronger) - if there are differences they should be well defined and discernable.

so... what would acceptable race differences be? should young characters be sandboxed with their kind?

an alternative approach would be to allow characters to evolve from one skill/stereotype to another, perhaps even allowing to gradually change the way a character looks over time.

General Discussion / Segregation in PS
« on: February 16, 2005, 06:11:54 pm »
Since the \"Racism in PS\" thread has grown too long-winded, allow me to start a new one.

Namely should there be provisions in the game to naturally segregate the Yliakim populace into groups based on genetic properties - i.e. race and sex.

Or the opposite should there be rules against such segregation.

An example of earlier could be, for example having different meals that characters naturally consume - e.g. gravel porridge for Krans, rat soup for Enki or clear fish broth for Klyros; that require different engredient found in different domains in the world, thus creating natural habitats for the races. Provision in a game would be if the character received more strength/pleasure/etc from eating native food than foreign.

An example of the latter would be, e.g. a GM-enforced prohibition of single-race guilds or abundance of quests that can only be completed by a \"multi-national\" group.

bollox! (sorry just had to say this)

killing tefusangs, if you can, is one of the most efficient money making schemes out there - their loot is more expencive than rats and you can carry more of their loot than ore.

even more efficient might be killing all rouges you can find and figuring out which carry lootable swords at times - each sword is worth more than all the platinum ore you char can carry!

of course you could also try to hack the game or beg gm for a few uber-expencive items, but that won\'t get you too far *g*

As I am sure everyone knows by now, there are an uncountable amount of bugs occuring with the server updater. Yet I don\'t see any post on the official news section of http://www.planeshift.it regarding this problem.

Had I not come to seek help on the bulliten board I would have had no idea why the game wasn\'t working, and assumed that it just can\'t work on my computer.

Rather than leaving it up to the individual to come and search through a bunch of confusing topics on the discussion board, I think that it would be benificial for someone to post planeshift bugs and problems on the main page news. As well as posting server downtime problems, a list of possible fixes could also be put on the main page.

It\'s just a suggestion, but it seems like alot of people are using planeshift, and it would be a benificial thing to do. It gets confusing and frustrating trying to find problems and fixes in various topics on a discussion board.

PS. I can help out with this if neccessary.

I, for one, agree with Xaenth, namely that planeshift management is not up to the mark - a bug database xxxxx - oops it\'s just not on sf.net anymore - xxxx, a bug (feature) faq is missing, the game faq is not very useful, the forum search is broken, older forum posts are largely forgotten after being moved to page 2 by the newer, the list goes on and on.

It is pointless to bug developers though - most of these are not their responcibility by any measure.

Perhaps what a prospective planshifter should understand is that planeshift team is merely toying with the code, models, art and whatwasit, and that moderators are all away playing table-top dungeons and dragons waiting for something truly new to appear in the game.

Alright, enough with pessimism now :-)

Planeshift, being an open source and free game, can be forgiven for offering so little at this moment, or even crashing if it does, one thing is not clear to me - where exactly are the benefits of this nature of planeshift?

Ps modding community is a start, even if it\'s so much smaller than equivalent groups for commercial games.

All in all there\'s enough hope and even a fair degree of chance that planeshift will evolve into a large, interesting game before we all have to switch to golf or equivalent game for the seniles :->>

I clearly remember MB planeshift plans doc whatever thing stated that ps world, yliakim was in fact a large cavity in solid earth, with a crystal light source hanging from the ceiling. and there were meant to be many layers with diff. creatures and stuff and lower levels were submerged.

certainly you could accept clouds in this setting too, but it would be completely possible not to have em.

or is that all old stuff gone with the wind now?
