Suggestion to Planeshift Staff
« on: February 14, 2005, 08:16:59 am »
As I am sure everyone knows by now, there are an uncountable amount of bugs occuring with the server updater. Yet I don\'t see any post on the official news section of http://www.planeshift.it regarding this problem.

Had I not come to seek help on the bulliten board I would have had no idea why the game wasn\'t working, and assumed that it just can\'t work on my computer.

Rather than leaving it up to the individual to come and search through a bunch of confusing topics on the discussion board, I think that it would be benificial for someone to post planeshift bugs and problems on the main page news. As well as posting server downtime problems, a list of possible fixes could also be put on the main page.

It\'s just a suggestion, but it seems like alot of people are using planeshift, and it would be a benificial thing to do. It gets confusing and frustrating trying to find problems and fixes in various topics on a discussion board.

PS. I can help out with this if neccessary.

If you\'re not willing to look trough the forums for your answers, then you shouldn\' t install ps for starters is my opinion.

I think it\'s more like people don\'t understand what Alpha or Beta stage in development means!

here here

i think there should be a nice explanation on the board/site/in game...of what beta is.

beta- not a complete game/program, has a lot of bugs, primary focus of developers is the game not customer service...during this phase of game development TESTERS are expected to help devs as much they can.

Planeshift - a FREE game in beta stage(see above), you don\'t pay anything. Whining about game\'s quality is thus percieved as an act of rudness and disrespect.

thank you
i actually play planeshift

I, too, am very new to these forums; but not to mmorpg\'ing.
As a rule, or common courtesy, it\'s always a good idea to search the forums for what you need.

And yes, it\'s easy to get lost on bigger forums, like this one.
But the powers-that-be behind PS were kind enough to add a nice \'Search\' button feature.
I use it regularly. :+)

I\'ll post for help/suggestions if I can\'t find it on my own.
With boards this huge, it\'s easy to miss the hidden gems. Most of the people who reply are genuinely helpful...as long as we maintain our own attitude of respect.

As for posting bugs/problems on PS\'s main page~ this is F-R-E-E     B-E-T-A. :+)
The Devs are very quick to post & respond here; & it\'s understood in Beta-Test that we (the Testors) are responsible for reporting & researching game problems here, in the Forums.

If this is too much of a hassle for some, then I suggest waiting to play PS until it passes the Alpha & Beta stages. You might miss out on the important Community-building , but you might enjoy your playing more, too.

It\'s alpha - beta means feature freeze, more stable, complete etc.

Well, half the fun for me is seeking out the bugs and trying to find new ones that are not reported yet.
The devs are working on them every day, I know, I see it happening. Being a part of this project is an honor to me, I feel like I am helping to build it in a way, even though I know very little about the way things work, I can still help by finding bugs and reporting them.

I see the community growing, and the gameplay improving. The future of Planeshift seems limitless, and I support it wholeheartly. Bravo, devs, keep up the good work, there are many of us who thank you.

WHOOHY!

Compliment, Rallelalli, that\'s a great job.

And yeah, I guess complaining about bugs is one of the few things you shouldn\'t do when playing PS. PS is great. I don\'t even care about bugs.

We need to know about bugs so we can fix them but we need to know a lot about them.  We keep a bug list on
http://planeshift.oodlz.com/bugtracker/ so can search there to see if your bug is there. If not then add it to the list.  Search the list of both open and closed bug to make sure that the bug you have is not already fixed.

I, for one, agree with Xaenth, namely that planeshift management is not up to the mark - a bug database xxxxx - oops it\'s just not on sf.net anymore - xxxx, a bug (feature) faq is missing, the game faq is not very useful, the forum search is broken, older forum posts are largely forgotten after being moved to page 2 by the newer, the list goes on and on.

It is pointless to bug developers though - most of these are not their responcibility by any measure.

Perhaps what a prospective planshifter should understand is that planeshift team is merely toying with the code, models, art and whatwasit, and that moderators are all away playing table-top dungeons and dragons waiting for something truly new to appear in the game.

Alright, enough with pessimism now :-)

Planeshift, being an open source and free game, can be forgiven for offering so little at this moment, or even crashing if it does, one thing is not clear to me - where exactly are the benefits of this nature of planeshift?

Ps modding community is a start, even if it\'s so much smaller than equivalent groups for commercial games.

All in all there\'s enough hope and even a fair degree of chance that planeshift will evolve into a large, interesting game before we all have to switch to golf or equivalent game for the seniles :->>

This is primarily to Dimaq, but also to all you whiney ungrateful people.

It\'s been stated a million and one times to everyone and their little brother that this Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game is completely free.  It\'s also been stated that the developers don\'t get paid.  With both those said, you have no dog in this fight.  You are recieving way more than you paid for, because last time I checked, you paid nothing.  And you still whine and gripe about this and that not being up to par.

Maybe if you paid them 10 dollars a month you would have a right to complain.  But you don\'t, this is their hobby, not yours.

Secondly you spell responsibility with an S.  Not a C.  But I bet you\'ve not dealt with that word much in elementary school.  Your responsibility is to keep your mouth shut when it isn\'t constructive.  And I sure didn\'t see anything constructive in your post.  Why don\'t you go play golf instead of making stupid, rash remarks about a game you know nothing about?  But you probably don\'t know much about golf either.

I don\'t think any one is really complaining, but apparently people do miss the fact that this game is EXPECTED to be hideously buggy.

On that paragraph you should probably take your own advice. \"Your responsibility is to keep your mouth shut when it isn\'t constructive.\" :)
