I didn't bother reading this.

I get in 'cause I'm awesome right?

props. you're the most tenacious troll I've ever seen.

I've had similar complains as a minimal rper, but overall I don't have much of a problem with the senior members. it's the legions of fenkis whose descriptions state that they are so beautiful and unnaturally agile that I can't help but drool all over myself or some variation therein that really irks me. my main is a bit racist against fenkis and certainly isn't enraptured by any of them, it really irks me when their bio says that. also, how can all fenkis be unnaturally agile? alright kids, we can't all be above average.

I'd like to make a shout out to the nice fellows who invited me in to a two person conversation they were having in the tavern. I had minimal contact with either of them previously yet they invited me to join them regardless. This group quickly grew to a tableful of 5 rpers, most of whom had never met each other. if rp was dead that wouldn't happen. if people didn't invite each other to rp it wouldn't happen. but rp happens, and the way I see it, there are a lot of jerks living in yliakum but there are also some really cool people. just have to learn to rp around it.

General Discussion / Re: What PlaneShift is not
« on: August 06, 2009, 11:00:54 am »
PlaneShift is not attracting a large enough audience.

The relative stasis of the player base is clue enough.

this makes me giggle.
of course not silly!
it lags like jesus. it takes three days to respawn! and then you still have to get through death realm (which takes longer because it's the coolest place to play hide & seek)

PlaneShift is not logical.
-stubby dwarves run the same speed as tall kran. and every other race, for that matter.

General Discussion / Re: NPC voiceovers!

Given the clamour for opening up more of the game content and the claims that this would greatly speed up development, I am a bit puzzled that bugs which exist in the code (which is open to all) aren't being leapt upon and fixed by the community at large. Wouldn't it be best for PS if the community focuses on helping us with these since they are a) ALREADY in open content b) the bugs most likely to be show-stoppers and c) the bugs most likely to be stomped out via a large pool of testing data from players?

I'm a bit puzzled that the educated population of the world isn''t donning lab coats and gloves to work with glassware and microscopes to cure cancer. I personally think it's the coolest thing ever and don't see any reasonable excuse why everyone wouldn't want to do this. the thing is, most people here don't have any idea how the hell to read the code (it's called "code" for a reason) and most people don't have any interest in any sort of coding or bug fixing. Sure, everyone would love for the bugs to be fixed, and for cancer to be cured. But not everyone works in cancer research, or has any interest in doing so. To work in cancer research or to work at coding and bug fixing you need an interest in learning everything about it, and then you need to spend the time to learn everything about it. Only then can you fix a bug. or research cancer, for my analogy. if you think about it, it's not puzzling at all that the bugs aren't being leaped upon. I could spend my life in a labcoat studying cells, but I don't care to know about coding and I wouldn't bother myself with the study or practice of it. don't expect car mechanics to research cancer. don't expect librarians to build bridges. a kindergarden teacher doesn't know how to transplant a lung.

on to my main point;
I'm in a similar boat with Graham, loading an audio file isn't something that I have any ability or interest to do. I'd like to request that this feature have an off switch such that the audio files are not loaded at all.
I admire your lofty goals, but please try to remember that no one with state-of-the-art equipment is going to spend much time on an open beta. Please keep the game playable.

from what people are saying they seem to be near each other.
I will find it eventually, even if I have to grid the whole map and click on everything >:]

I was trying to be discreet about revealing the location of the cave. Its the only one that I know of on that map. I too heard it was called the jade caves or jave cavers but was looking for confirmation because I came accross some conflicting information. I don't recall exact details but I think this info ( library book ) indicated that the jave cave was on a lower level. As I understand the lower levels have not yet been implemented.

D=
I just spent the last hour trying to find this cave. Ugh, it's an exploratory koan.

Guilds Forum / [Guild] The Brotherhood of Talad (updated)
« on: April 11, 2009, 09:29:55 am »
The Brotherhood of Talad

Purpose
The main purpose of the Brotherhood of Talad is to spread Talad's word and gather followers. We wish to unite his followers so that they may overcome the hardship of life together.
The Brotherhood of Talad accepts all races and all honest professions; we are united in the faith of Talad and offer understanding and forgiveness to all.

Followers of Talad
For those unfamiliar with his story, Talad is one of the two gods that brought life to Yliakum. Together with Laanx, he fashioned this world. After creating Yliakum, Laanx created the Lemurs and Talad created the Kran. During the creation of the Kran, Talad accidentally injured Laanx and she fled into the stone Labyrinths. Despite the anger Laanx felt towards Talad, Talad still wishes Laanx well and hopes that one day he will be forgiven.

It is from this ongoing act of love and patience that the followers of Talad model much of their interactions with society. We try to follow his example of love and patience. We are generous with our skills and goods towards those who are in need. We perform acts of service in the community. We are patient, knowing that all trials are temporary, mere tests given to us by Talad and will in time make us better people.

The ranks of The Brotherhood of Talad are open to all. Unlike the followers of Laanx, Talad and the Brotherhood welcome all who feel the call to serve him, regardless of race.

Guild members are expected to follow to the best of their ability the following Code of Chivalry;
> to never back down from a duel
> to never turn one's back upon a foe
> to never kill an opponent in a fight excepting when avenging the murder of a guildmate or companion
> to always be loyal to Talad and others of the Brotherhood
> to guard the honor of fellow knights
> to always be respectful to one's leaders
> to always keep one's word
> to defend the weak and defenseless
> to speak the truth at all times
> to fight for the welfare of all
> to refrain from the wanton giving of offense
> to live by honor and for glory

For persons interested in joining the Brotherhood it is suggested that one should contact guild leaders of the ranks Brotherhood Adept, Holy Cleric, Templar, Brotherhood Knight, or our leader, The Voice of Talad.

I am tempted to make an alt just to join your guild for some good RP, but at the moment I need more training on Akaiddo.

typically people don't want alts in their guild.
it leads to spying and masses of inactive members, both of which aren't cool.
but who knows, I'm sure some guilds don't mind

Forum and Website Discussions / Re: Get rid of the Wish List forum?
« on: April 05, 2009, 04:17:29 am »
I don't use the wish list because the devs seem to only bother with the bug tracker (according to what everyone says)
and I don't use the bug tracker.
I'll explain that before someone tells me (again, for the billionth time) to use it.
I've seen in game several unreported bugs and have further information on bugs I've seen already on the bug tracker that I'd assume would be useful.
However, I've spent hours searching the bug tracker and can't figure out how to post anything there.
SO, I gave up. If the mods want it to make it so difficult to help the devs then I won't. I know for a fact that there are a lot of people like me but I'm just sick of dealing with people shouting after me to use the bugtracker.
I'm sure people will read this and think I'm a moron that I didn't figure it out and will, exasperated, tell me yet again to use the bugtracker.
I'm not going to so go ahead and say it, I won't.

An additional note: all the posts for bugs that I actually care to see fixed haven't even been edited in a year. Now tell me, why the hell am I being yelled at to march my ass over to the bugtracker when no one fixes bugs? The devs don't have time to work on kran attack animation, no one really gives a rip about it and hell, I've found out how to make it work anyway. There's no possitive motivation for anyone to post on the bugtracker; you get yelled at if you don't and ignored if you do. Tell me, really, why bother?

Complaint Department / Re: DEATH!!!
« on: March 31, 2009, 07:18:51 am »
as some can tell you the game is plenty bright, it all depends on your screen and your graphics card and drivers nothing we can do if you have sub-par equipment.
Actually, I think this is still strange. OpenGL is a standard. You would expect that if you tell your graphics card using standard commands to make something white, it would be white, no matter what hardware. Sub-par equipment (like my intel chip) might have problems achieving a high framerate, do things like bumpmapping or antialiasing, but white should still be white.

I'm not sure why people with top of the line equipment would be playing a beta game???
and I also agree with planeshift being too dark. I can live with it, but it's always dim.

well, that's what I'd expect from a guild rping egalitarian socialists.
any group led by the average will tend towards common blunders and ultimately to mediocrity, once the shock value has worn off.
