General Discussion / Re: Another similar project

Of course, Ligh, I agree. But to discuss about the way others have resolved issues can show the path, sometime. And opening their code doesn't mean 'Come and pillage me' but ' Let show how we handle things and accept advices to improve our own code'   :)
And I haven't seen the other thread before posting  :flowers:

Hello,
I wasn't sure how I would publish this new, which is perhaps not one for some of you, but I have discovered that there is another MMORPG gone recently GPL : Ryzom. (source : http://forums.ryzom.com/showthread.php?t=34929 )
I don't know if it can be useful to developpers, but the code released has been coded in the past by a company and open only recently, so they had more money to pay developpers. I have tested the game a bit and there is a lot of effects PS plan to developp which are already in Ryzom (the small dust behind character when running was nice to see to me  :)  )So I was wondering if it can be of some help to PS developpers. They plan to release also all the 3D models, music etc. (under CC if I am right). Perhaps some link with the Ryzom community could be fruitfull to PS, sparing some time for the dev team or analyzing how they have resolved some issues. For instance, they have worked a lot on the crafts, and I know it is a major feature PS plan to developp.
Your opinion ?

Quests and Factions:
<snip>
    * After char creation a friend's letter is now guiding you to the major NPCs, which will explain the associations and factions present in Hydlaa. Players can start to follow those trails and learn more about the associations/factions. This is the foundation of a complex social system based on jobs and affiliations that we continue to develop to create a more immersive roleplay experience.

Great !
And how does this work for old characters ? Can we have a copy of this letter somewhere ? (need desesperately do developp my Kran factions, which is at only 95  :D )

By the way, is the book Xillix spoke of in this thread :
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=34111.0
has been released ? I would be definitively delighted to read it... I saw nothing in Jayose, apart of "Kran history and origin" specifically about Kran (hope this is not spoiler saying that)

Time ! I am afraid I would not be very efficient...
And, by the way, there is no "open positions" written on the  Recruitment page

No, I mean books copies from Jayose, not new ones. I have made all the Kran /Education quests I knew, so I am quite interested in spreading information about History of Krans etc.

I have subscribed to the poetry competition, but I am not sure it will be worth a book  :D

I don't mean to developp the Setting myself, I let the Dev create the world and I just enjoy it  \\o//

After a while away, I am back in game, from time to time. I have made again quests, but I am not sure Kran culture have been so far very developped since last time. Is there some promoters around, still ? Or not ? Do the setting devs have enought time to work upon that, with all the new maps and NPCs in Oja and Amdeneir ?

General Discussion / Re: Ready for a new OSP Contest?
« on: September 04, 2009, 11:07:19 am »
I voted yes, as it seems to me that involving more players in the life of Yliakum is good for RP, as they can offer more interactions then NPCs. And the actuel projects can't concern everybody. So I would say that as long as it gather motivated people and push up the community as a whole in a better developped world, it is interesting. And I am not sure it would dilute participation, but would incline to think the opposite, that it can attract new players.
And it would be nice to have projects which can be active not just around US time  :innocent:

Following my answer to the player interview made by Xillix, I was wondering if it would be possible for the devs to organize other contests to fullfill secondary interest artistic needs (similar to the PS city design contest: http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=31385.0)
I was thinking about asking for other style of helms, weapons, staffs, tables or any needed equipment. With a mandatory list of the specs of the things to give them, it could increase the volume of art in the game, making it more attractive with possibilities of customization for characters. And it would lighten the burden on art devs. To keep some surprise, the result could be only partially shown on the forum.

np. I don't know if I have the correct answer. It is just an idea I got as I was wandering around Hydlaa Plaza and saw many characters sitting around or obviously doing metallurgy crafts. I thought it would be nice to know what someone is doing without having to ask. It would help to have a first contact or give more chance to nice RP. And sometime I felt I would like to be able to let people know around what I am doing sit in the middle of nothing, as I am a bit fed up with the "are you travelling to : <1>Oja ? <2>Bronze Doors ?" first question  ;)
