The mystery of Cinnabar
« on: August 17, 2009, 05:08:14 pm »
I have been playing for three months and am starting to wonder what Cinnabar is and what it does???? I find that i'm not able to melt it using the furnace and even some of the more experienced players cant melt it. Ive heard from other players that Cinnabar is a crystal which makes sense except that i can sell it as raw material to the npc's. I would love to know what this is and what it is used for, cause the name sounds tasty and this kran is getting hungry!!! :whistling:

IRL cinnabar is the primary source of commercial mercury. The cinnabar is crushed, I think, to recover the mercury.

Cinnabar is a rather new mineral in game as far as I know.  It's probably that its uses just haven't been implemented yet.  So just because you can't do anything with it now, doesn't mean it will stay that way.

It it pretty much the same story as lumium, I don't think it can be smelted either. Zinc can be smelted but is otherwise useless unless things have changed recently.

All that (except ditiloff's joke) is mostly real-life knowledge or guesswork ... If I am not wrong, there is not yet any crafting implemented (or publicly available via crafting techniques) on the game servers which would use cinnabar (or lumium). But it is an easy guess that they will probably get important "soon (tm)" with the development of alchemy.

You just can't beat a lumium pie with cinnabar icing  for fancy occasions.

They will ruin their teeth. Diamond is harder than silicate-organics. Kran-caries!

Kran would not eat diamonds, sillies. Diamonds are just carbon, and there are cheaper, easier to obtain, and much easier to chew forms of carbon available. Like Enki.

Don't know if they would eat mercury, though. It might make sense, as mercury readily combines with most other metals (except iron).

Other than that, mercury is used for many things. One of its uses in PS, I believe, is to purify Lumium. But, first they will need to set up evaporators and collectors for the mercury.

Someone doesn't seem to have done all the quests as a couple of them indicate that Kran do indeed eat diamonds. Unless maybe we shifted out of the plane of diamond eating Kran or the quests have changed.

It may be they are the Kran equivalent of "Lucky Charms," ... "Magically Delicious"
